Look at the graffiti mural in the open living space as one example – countered by the sleek kitchen, gold touches, and dark colour palette the space feels cleverly composed and the statement wall makes for a pretty nice photo backdrop, too. The bathroom is another example of where you can see the practised restraint with which this entire home has been put together to feel fun, but never to overwhelm the senses. 

Explore the area by heading towards the beach and stopping off at any of the coffee bars that catch your eye. Spend the day eating ice cream, dipping your toe in at low tide, playing the arcade games on the pier, and enjoying drinks at any one of the pubs or bars – don't forget to stop off at the Royal Pavilion on the walk back. You could easily while away the whole day and night diving into the North Laine's buzzing hub of independent artists, curiosity shops, and happening cafes and restaurants. But don't forget the city's other must-sees, starting at the eye-popping spectacle of The Royal Pavilion (seven minutes on foot). And there's always the kiss-me-quick pier (thirteen minutes on foot) for a spin and obligatory fish and chips – preferably in that order. 

When it's time to take five, you'll find an immaculately presented apartment awaiting. The care that your host, Helen, puts into the interior design of this home is impressive – that bespoke kitchen is a case in point. While over in the bedroom, one big hug of a king-sized bed awaits, along with a freestanding bathtub with room for two. And despite its central location, it feels surprisingly quiet here. So draw the blackout blinds and bag yourself a lie-in – in this famously hedonistic city, you might need it.

This home is an Art Deco themed showstopper that would delight any aspiring flapper. With bespoke 1920's themed furniture and original retro features, a stay here is like stepping back in time to the Jazz Age. We especially love the mirrored cocktail bar, worthy of any speakeasy, and the impressive home cinema with its red bucket chairs and huge TV hidden behind a theatrical curtain. The kitchen is a retro daydream with its restored English Rose units and the bedrooms continue the Art Nouveau theme to the letter (the dressing table in the master bedroom is just like something your grandmother would’ve had). What takes this flat from gimmick to somewhere truly special though is its history as the former home of playwright Sir Terrance Rattigan who wrote many famous works set in the roaring 20s. The location is the bee’s knees too. You’re a five-minute stroll from Brighton’s pebbled seafront and a twenty-minute walk from the city centre. Spend your days exploring the artisan cafés, flea markets and promenading on the front before mixing a highball at the bar and settling in for a showing of a Golden Age movie.
