Once you've wandered about this home nestled away in the North Yorkshire countryside for the first time, it probably won't come as a surprise to learn that it was once a hotel. We love every irresistible inch, from the light-filled skylights and gorgeous sea views down to the glossy parquet floor. The sumptuous master bedroom is so stylish, it's hard to believe it's all upcycled from cladding and roof joists, and the master bathroom is even better. Relax with a soak in the lavish free-standing bathtub or rinse off under the rainfall shower. The living area is warm and incredibly comfortable. In the mornings, open the bi-fold doors and sip your coffee on the Juliet balcony, watching the ocean waves from the floor-to-ceiling windows. After a tasty breakfast rustled up in the blue kitchen, head up to the roof terrace to soak up the sunshine. Decked out with lush greeny and a barbecue, you'll want to spend every minute you're not at the beach sitting up here, enjoying alfresco meals and sipping cocktails as the sun sets over the water. Speaking of the sea, it's just a five-minute walk down to the beach or into town, where you can snack on fish and chips and grab a pint at one of the local pubs. Shopaholics can browse Saltburn-by-the-Sea's independent boutiques, keen hikers can walk along the Cleveland Way or for a more leisurely pace, just stroll along the Victorian pier, relishing in the salty sea air.

The Stable Boy

Situated in a Grade II-listed building dating back to 1878, we can't help but swoon over this Alnwick apartment. It doesn't lack character, that's for sure – vaulted ceilings, exposed beams and antique knick-knacks like typewriters and old books are in abundance. We think it's the perfect blend of old and new, and nowhere is a better example of that than the open-plan living area. Bright and roomy, there's more than enough space here to spread out and get comfortable, whether you're tucking into a feast around the table or snuggling up in front of the fire. Cooking is anything but a chore in the glossy kitchen, and on rainy days, head up to the mezzanine for board games and billiards. There's also a communal garden for the summer months, where you can sip tea in the sunshine or cocktails at twilight.

And the location is excellent, too. Alnwick is as charming as they come, sprinkled with history and magic – no wonder they filmed Harry Potter here. The famous Alnwick Castle is just a short walk away, while the Northumberland coast is a thirteen-minute drive. Although this wooden lodge sits in the middle of a leafy caravan park in the North Yorkshire countryside just outside of Whitby, there's nothing temporary or makeshift about the living quarters. In fact, there's a contemporary style and enough high-quality amenities that would see it slot quite easily into the swishest of city neighbourhoods.

The double-height windows in the living room do a brilliant job of bathing the interior in natural light, as well as offering peaceful views of the surrounding trees. If you're paying a visit during the warmer months – or you just want to emulate the hardiness of local Yorkshire folk during the colder seasons – you can make the most of the home's private terrace complete with seating. There are also plenty of walking routes and historic attractions in the surrounding North Yorks Moors National Parks, as well as the village of Egton and its pub lying within walking distance. The quirky seaside town of Whitby takes less than a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, too.
