The brainchild of a celebrated interior designer, this North Devon townhouse has got it all figured out. Located a couple of minutes’ drive from Croyde beach, where you’ll spend long days surfing and soaking up the salty sea breeze, the inside of the home is beautifully sophisticated, with subtle nautical nods—we loved the knot wallpaper and delicate fish shoal light shade. The bunks in the children’s room will be a hit with mini swashbucklers, while the pizza oven on the patio should keep big kids quiet for a while. You’ll find the pretty village of Croyde a five-minute amble down the road, offering a charming selection of tea rooms, ice cream parlours and thatched pubs. After a hearty roast dinner, retreat home to the outdoor hot tub before turning in for the night in those luxurious king-size beds.

One of three homes on the same site, it’s the ideal base for exploring the spectacular Devonshire coast. Saunton Sands is one of Devon’s most beautiful beaches, with three miles of golden sand, and azure water. It’s as popular with surfers as families, but with such a vast stretch of beach, rarely feels crowded. The popular village of Braunton is also close by, with its many surf shops, restaurants and cafes. Enjoy a lazy lie in before heading to the beach to swim, surf and explore Braunton Burrows’ immense sand dunes. Then come back for a relaxing dunk in the hot tub and watch the sun go down on the deck with a glass of something delicious. The host welcomes pets (and Saunton Sands is dog-friendly year-round), so if you’ve got a furry friend, it’s the dream holiday.

Sounds dreamy, right? Well, that's a day in the life at this contemporary coastal apartment, right on the banks of Saunton Sands. 

With incredible ocean views, direct footpath access to the sandy beach and a shared terrace where you can soak it all in, this sleek apartment is the pinnacle of shoreside living. Effortlessly chic, the minimalist living space is decorated in calm greys and crisp whites. Not only is it a soothing space to retreat to after a day in the sun, but it's super roomy and drenched in light from the floor-to-ceiling windows. Home cooks will have everything they need to rustle up family dinners in the glossy kitchen, but our favourite room is the elegant main bedroom, which has a lavish freestanding bathtub perfect for relaxing.

Surfers will love catching waves on Saunton Sands – there's even wetsuit and surfboard storage as well as an outdoor shower on-site. Keen walkers can trek the South West Coastal Path – it runs directly past the apartment – while golfers can hit the links at Saunton Golf Club. For pubs and restaurants, head inland to Braunton (five minutes by car), or for a change of scenery, make the fifteen-minute drive to Woolacombe.

Sands On the Horizon

Located only a short twenty-minute walk from Devon's beautiful Staunton Sands beach and tucked away on a quiet countryside road, The Great Honeysuckle is the perfect place for a discerning couple to kick back and relax for a few days. Aside from the beach, the area is great for long walks and birdwatching, and once you're done exploring, you can always return and hit the outdoor hot tub to unwind. Start your day with a lazy brunch prepared in the bright kitchenette, then enjoy a hot cup of coffee on the patio – the decked terrace area is surrounded by green countryside views, that we really love. If you feel like visiting a historical town, then head over to Barnstaple, under a fifteen-minute drive away, for a nice afternoon in the city centre. When – weary from wandering and ensuring you've picked up some local goods on your travels – knock up a hearty meal and get cosy on the sofa with a good book. The interior has a real classic summertime look, with its exposed wood, light blue tones and French doors. Through to the bedroom, you'll find a continuation of the main living space with tasteful artwork and a gingham throw adding to the charm of this home-sweet-home.

Modernised in 2020 to create a sleek and tranquil retreat for four, the unique home comes with a garden hot tub, wood-burning stove and luscious garden that blends into the surrounding countryside.

The interiors are rich with rustic features, from the exposed stonework in the living space to the A-frame beam ceilings. Contemporary touches, such as the full-height windows and Scandinavian-style furniture, complement rather than compete with the remnants of the original barn, while tasteful details like the slate grey flooring and country doors echo what the adjoining farmhouse might have looked like.

You're just a twelve-minute drive from Barnstaple here, and twenty minutes from North Devon's spectacular beaches. Wind your way through verdant farmland en route, and stop off at Braunton for some traditional British pub grub on your way home.

With its fantastic surfing conditions, nearby Croyde Beach (twenty minutes on foot) is a destination for fans of water sports, and its golden sands are perfect for building sandcastles too. Once you’ve worked up an appetite, Croyde has some fantastic cafes, pubs and restaurants where you can refuel and possibly sample a famous Devon cream tea. Back at home, you’ll find a wet room where you can rinse off the salt and sand, as well as a grand clawfoot bath for the perfect ending to a delightful day.

This charming, barn-converted cottage is tucked away in Braunton village adjoining the rich sand dunes of Braunton Burrows which host a rich plant community of ferns and herbs. 

This country cottage has all the features of a rural retreat by the sea, think clean tones with blue hues, high-beamed ceilings and reclaimed white-washed furnishings. When the sun is out, open up the french doors to the Juliette balcony to invite the coastal Devonshire breeze in, or spend lunch in the soft-lawned orchard surrounded by wildflowers. When the weather isn’t playing ball, spend afternoons on the cosy sofa with the log-burning fire and a movie classic. Come rain or shine, the kitchen is ready to spring into action for picnic preparation or family-style dinners around the wooden dining table.

If you’re venturing outside the cottage, prepare for an abundance of choices - surfing lessons down on Saunton Beach (eight minutes away), cycling along the Tarka Trail, exploring the woodlands of Exmoor National Park (twenty-five minutes by car) or indulging in a local pub lunch. Surrounded by rolling countryside hills and stunning Jurassic beaches, you’ll find tranquillity and exploration in equal measure.

This beautiful country home is steeped in history – the colonial-style building is Grade II listed, and it is said that former Prime Minister William Gladstone once stayed here when visiting Braunton. 

The bay window looks out onto the historic parish church, and there is an excellent village pub right next door for when you’re in need of some refreshment or a tasty pub lunch. The cosy sitting room has a wood-burning stove and comes with a complimentary basket of logs, and there’s an additional snug with a sofa and TV – just pop on one of the many DVDs available in the library and settle in for a movie night. You’ll also have the bright and modern kitchen at your disposal – why not rustle up a quick, delicious supper, which you can then enjoy in the spacious dining area.  

A picturesque stretch of the Tarka Trail is close by, offering paths for walking and cycling, while a short car ride will take you to an array of lovely beaches, including Saunton and Croyde. You can indulge in water sports such as surfing and canoeing here, and the house has storage space for boards. Those hoping for a more low-key, restful trip can simply enjoy the golden sands and the soothing sound of waves – and don’t forget to taste the legendary Devon cream tea! 


Take A Little Time

Did somebody say beach? Few places can boast of having direct access to one of Devon's finest beaches, but from this home, you can step out of the door, through the shared garden and onto the footpath down to Saunton Sands. A garden-level apartment in a freshly converted building, it's got space, style and knockout sea views. Perfect for a family or a group of friends getting away to the coast, it's both contemporary and comfortable. 

Inside, the enormous open-plan living space is the star of the show, with a vast lounge area, dining space and a well kitted-out kitchen. Fling open the sets of doors and just breathe in that sea air. We particularly love the covered terrace, with cosy outdoor sofas so you can sip your drinks and admire the view. The master bedroom comes with an in-room freestanding bathtub and the luxurious shower room is decked out in marble, with a fabulous rainfall shower.

By day, splash and play on the beach (don't forget your surfboards – there's a place to store them here) or head to nearby Croyde and Woolacombe. Walk the sand dunes of Braunton Burrows or play a round at Saunton Golf Club, and in the evening enjoy meals together at the big dining table. It's even dog-friendly there's so no need to leave out your four-legged family members here.

When it's time to hit the surf, pad out across the landscaped communal gardens and follow the footpath leading you directly to one of Britain's best surfing beaches. With a surf school on your doorstep and a handy outhouse and outdoor shower for hosing down and storing all your surf paraphernalia, this is a surfer's paradise. And it's dog and family-friendly too, so all the troops are welcome here. 

Explore pretty nearby coastal spots like Croyde (seven-minute drive) and Woolacombe (eighteen-minute drive). And there's a thriving foodie scene to keep you well watered and fed – from Michelin-starred restaurants to good old-fashioned fish and chips – it's got it all going on.

Our favourite spot to kick back is the sun-drenched garden, where summer barbecues and twilight cocktails are sure to be on your itinerary. With a decked seating area ideal for alfresco dining and a pretty summerhouse to retreat to when you need a break from the rays, we wouldn't blame you if you decide to spend every second here soaking up the fresh air.

Inside is just as cosy. Settle down on the plush sofas with a glass of wine and watch a film in front of the electric fire. Home cooks, meanwhile, will love preparing family feasts in the country-style kitchen. After a long walk along the coast, soak sore muscles in the bathtub before climbing into the comfortable beds for a well-deserved sleep – with so much to explore in Devon, you'll need all the energy you can get it. 

Location-wise, you're just a short walk from the village and about one mile from Croyde's sandy beach. Bring along your boards and catch some waves – there's even surfboard storage back at home – or for a more laid-back afternoon, sample the fare at the local pubs and cafes in the area, followed by a stroll along the shore.

Just a few minutes from the centre of Croyde and steps away from a path that leads to Croyde's picturesque beach and pumping surf, this semi-detached cottage is the ideal spot to enjoy your own surfers' paradise. The interior has been decorated in a contemporary style while maintaining plenty of period features and cottage charm. The bright and breezy kitchen/diner has a beautiful exposed beam ceiling and a large dining table that can accommodate the whole group. On cooler evenings, set the fire and sink into the sofa in the delightful living room. The downstairs double bedroom is perfect for anyone who'd prefer to avoid the stairs, while it also boasts direct access to the patio and lovely garden complete with outdoor furniture. Head upstairs for a further three bedrooms and a modern family bathroom. Outside, you've got a couple of parking spaces (a real luxury in peak-season Croyde), and a central courtyard with an outdoor shower. The centre of Croyde with its pubs, restaurants, cafes and surf shops is just steps away, while the dune-backed beach is a ten-minute walk. Croyde beach is one of North Devon's most stunning stretches of sand and attracts surfers year-round thanks to its reliable waves. When the surf gets too big, or the wind too strong, you're less than a ten-minute drive from Putsborough beach, where the headline protects you from those prevalent south-westerly winds. For breathtaking coastal walks, head to the nearby National Trust headland of Baggy Point where a cliffside footpath offers spectacular views of the Atlantic and Lundy Island.

Croyde Cruiser

Situated on a quiet residential road, just inland from the stunning dune-backed Saunton Beach, this home is perfectly placed to explore the spectacular coastline and unspoiled countryside of North Devon.

The interior is coastal and contemporary, with a relaxed atmosphere that's very much in keeping with your surroundings. A wood burner in the living room is perfect for warming up after those surprisingly cold spring surf sessions, while the sleek kitchen is on hand to refuel the family after a day at the beach. Finally, three tranquil bedrooms all but guarantee a great night's sleep, while the main bedroom boasts its own freestanding tub – perfect for soothing aching shoulders after a few hours of paddling for waves.

Out back, a well-kept enclosed garden provides a secure haven for dogs and children. Sun loungers are set out on the wooden deck by the house, with a patio equipped with a barbecue and an outdoor dining set providing all the ingredients for relaxing afternoons hanging out with the family. And on those days when you're not feeling culinarily creative, you'll find a selection of excellent coffee shops and restaurants serving a wide array of cuisines a short walk away in the centre of Braunton.

With the surf pumping, the beginner-friendly waves of Saunton are approximately 3 miles away. Its limited car parking space means that it never gets too crowded, even on the busiest of summer days. It's also the home of Saunton Golf Club, one of the most challenging links courses in the country. Just around the headland, you'll find the bustling village of Croyde, with packed-out pubs, cool bars and several surf shops where you can stock up on essentials before hitting the surf.

Situated a mere ten-minute walk from the beach in Croyde, this home is ideal for those seeking a coastal retreat – and surfers, in particular. Up to eight guests will need to share two bathrooms here, one of which is an en-suite, but aside from this, there’s plenty of space for everyone to spread out and enjoy some quiet time or socialise as a group. The garden is a lovely spot for alfresco dinners while in winter, the wood burner is a welcome sight after a day on the coast.

Nestled in the sleepy village of Georgeham, you'll find this brilliant home. Although it's a peaceful spot, you'll find plenty to do right on your doorstep – and this detached house is the perfect place to return to after a busy day. 

There's a welcoming aura inside, thanks to the soft fabrics and warm, natural wood. Flop down on the sofa with a glass of wine and a good book, or get busy whipping up your favourite dishes in the kitchen. And, on sunny days, you can fling open the patio doors and head out to the garden for an evening tipple in the fresh countryside air. 

You'll love getting to know charming Georgeham, strolling through the quaint streets, then stopping off for a pint of ale at one of the local pubs. Hikers and cyclists can explore the beautiful landscapes of the North Devon Coast Nature Reserve. This luxurious holiday home is just a seven-minute walk to the village of Georgeham, where you can enjoy a pint of ale in a traditional pub. But in this bright and beautiful lodge, rural life meets modern sensibilities. As soon as you arrive, passing through rolling green fields and grazing sheep, the first thing you’ll notice is the spectacular outdoor space. Framing your gorgeous blue wooden home is a lush lawn, a pale wood decking with outdoor seating, and our favourite feature – a traditional, wooden outdoor hot tub. But before you jump in to start soaking the night away, it’s also worth exploring the indoors. With floor-to-ceiling windows and glass sliding doors, this home really allows you to bring the outside in. Plush velvet chairs and a cushy sofa bring a softness to the otherwise minimalist living space – a perfect setting for a warm Earl Grey after a long day on the windswept beaches of Devon. While these dramatic coastlines are of course a major attraction of staying in this area, you can also find some of the county’s best dog-friendly beaches, such as Woolacombe Beach, just ten minutes away. Perfect for you and the pup.

Home to a large number of rare plants and animals, it’s popular with wildlife enthusiasts. 

Back at the penthouse, take a soak in the roll-top tub then fire up the wood burner and get cosy. The views are captivating from every angle – we spent hours gazing out at the sea and sands – and sunset is an event in of itself. Curl up in a blanket on the balcony and drink in the views while tucking into a Devonshire cream tea. We’ll let you decide whether it’s the jam or cream first. 


A Penthouse on the Shore

Whether you're looking for summer holidays by the beach or days spent walking, this North Devon home is in close proximity to many outdoor adventures. Set in a quiet lane on the outskirts of Braunton, the house is a short drive away from the surfing beaches of Saunton and Croyde, both of which have board hire and lessons available at the locations. And no worries if you don’t have your own gear - the owners are more than happy for you to borrow the body boards, surf boards and wetsuits found in the garage. Alongside plenty of beaches, this stretch of coast is famed for its beautiful walking routes. Parts of the South West Coast Path can be picked up at Braunton Burrows and lead through a UNESCO-designated biosphere, while the Tarka Trail is great for easy cycling. Once you’re done exploring, head home for a glass of wine in the garden during the summer or watch the sunset from the top-floor lounge. If cooking is off the agenda for the night, the town is a short stroll away and has several pubs as well as the award-winning chippie, Squires.

A ten-minute drive from the pristine shores of Devon’s Woolacombe Beach, this modern lodge is an isolated, minimalist abode that's perfect for serenity-seekers. While you can reach the town of Georgeham by taking a seven-minute stroll through the lush countryside, the home truly does feel like a world away. Devon is a beautiful place to visit all year round, with the stunning landscapes taking centre stage. Visit Lundy Island by boat to see seals, ponies, prison caves, sea cliffs, and (from March to August) puffins. The list goes on and on, so go down to Saunton Sands and see yourself.

Putsborough Beach is just a few minutes away, but you don’t need to go farther than the terrace to enjoy the sea air. The decor isn't the most modern, but we think the location in Croyde more than makes up for that.

If you're looking for a home with plenty of history then you've come to the right place. This farmhouse was first mentioned in the Domesday Book, and is now a Grade-II listed building packed with plenty of period features. Push open the thick oak front door, and you'll find plenty of wooden beams, original crooked walls, with open fireplaces and wood-burning stoves in all of the reception rooms. The kitchen is a magnificent place to cook, with a gas-fired range and spectacular high ceiling. You'll also love flicking through the library of books and settling down in an armchair to read in perfect peace. If the weather is good, then you're spoilt with twenty-one acres of land to roam, complete with your very own pond and stream. The outdoor entertaining area is perfect for alfresco meals as you gaze out across the south-facing garden and drink in the magnificent views. Walkers will be happy to know that a public footpath goes right by the garden, so it couldn't be easier to set out on a hike from here. And, despite the rural location, there's plenty to do close by. The local pub is just a mile away if you're in need of refreshment, and Woolacombe Beach is fifteen minutes away by car, where you can breathe in the fresh sea air. And, with Exmoor National Park, Lee Bay, and Croyde all within a twenty to thirty-minute drive, you'll love exploring this lovely corner of Devon.
