Nestled in a typical Devon valley with house martins nesting under the eaves, cattle grazing in the distance and minimal phone reception, you could be forgiven for thinking you've stepped back in time. From the moment you walk in the door, you'll immediately feel the stresses and strains of everyday life melt away. The home has been sympathetically converted to retain its evident charm, with the addition of luxurious modern comforts (including wi-fi – so you won't be completely disconnected from the world). The spacious kitchen is equipped with an AGA for the ultimate in countryside chic, though there's also an induction hob as a backup, plus antique chairs and a beautiful walnut dining table. Through to the new section of the house and you're treated to double-height ceilings and plenty of natural light, in addition to a couple of bedrooms. The upstairs bedroom enjoys views overlooking the orchard and terraced lawns from the open mezzanine beside it. Outside in the garden, you'll find a contemplative space abuzz with insect life throughout the spring and summer, thanks to an abundance of wildflowers. There are plenty of walks from the house, many along secluded footpaths traversing unspoiled valleys – there's a chance you might not meet another soul. If you can tear yourself away, you'll find plenty of pubs and hotels serving fantastic seasonal produce and locally brewed beers. Alternatively, drop by Alder Vineyard – a ten-minute drive away – for a journey far beyond the bottle.

The cabin is based just outside of Launceston in Cornwall, close to the border of Devon. It’s brilliantly located for outdoorsy adventures, whether you’re keen on surfing or prefer to explore the countryside on foot. Dartmoor National Park is twenty-seven minutes away by car, with its wealth of wonderful hikes and cycling trails. You might take a day-trip to St Isaac to paddle in the sea and eat fish and chips and ice cream at the shore – it takes forty-three minutes to drive there, and it’s well worth the trip. 

After a day of exploring Cornwall and its gems, you can look forward to sipping wine on the terrace. Perhaps you’ll cook dinner on the barbecue before enjoying a relaxing bubble bath in the beautiful copper tub. Or to take the romance to the next level, you might soak in the hot tub under the stars. The cabin is a modern space, with high ceilings and plenty of natural light flooding in through the large windows. It's the perfect place for socialising – the open-plan set-up makes it easy to chat with your guests while you cook, before serving up your creations at the chic dining bench. On warm days, you might prefer to head outside and fire up the barbeque for a freshly grilled feast. Best of all, you'll even have your very own hot tub, ideal for long, revitalising soaks under the stars. 

Roadford Lake is just a few minutes' walk away from your front door, where you can take part in a range of water sports including paddle boarding and windsurfing. If you're feeling less adventurous, you can stay on dry land and wander through the woodland before treating yourself to something tasty at the on-site café. And, with Dartmoor National Park just twelve minutes away by car, lovers of the great outdoors can enjoy an intensive hike or bike ride through the epic landscapes.

Nestled alongside the barns and farmhouse of host Victoria’s organic farm, it makes for a great nesting place after countryside walks, wholesome meals and boutique shopping at nearby Tavistock. The master bedroom features garden views and gorgeous natural light. The second bedroom is quiet and cosy with comfy beds and quality bed linen. The home’s wooden panelling and landscape paintings reflect the traditional English setting and create a homely environment, and the heated pool is the perfect place for relaxing.

Situated in the parish of St Stephens, this old house is contemporary-yet-cosy, with a log-burning stove and an open-plan living area. One of the bedrooms can be set up as a twin or a king, making it a great choice for families. It's worth noting that there aren't any stairgates here, nor is there a fireguard, so young children will need extra supervision. You'll find a patio, a pergola, and a barbecue in the back garden, with space for kids to play and for grown-ups to relax. We think the location is lovely – you'll be just a two-minute walk from Launceston Golf Club, while Widemouth Bay and its beach are an easy drive away.

Located on the owner’s farm, you’ll find hiking and cycle trails straight from the door and Dartmoor National Park is within easy reach. It’s worth noting the decor is rustic and basic, but this is a great option for those looking to disconnect and savour life’s simple pleasures.

Upstairs, we think the waterside terrace might inspire a paddle to Salcombe – made easy by the three-seater kayak your host provides. It's worth noting that there is a bit of a hike to the front door here (thirty-six steps, to be precise), so this home won't be the best option for everyone.
