Where do we start with this home – both the apartment and the location are excellent. Firstly, it’s just a 50-metre stroll across West Cliff Green to the beach steps making this the perfect base for a family-friendly holiday by the sea. There are an array of restaurants and bars within walking distance whilst Bournemouth Pier and the town centre are also accessible by foot. We love the sea views from this place’s private garden and who wouldn’t want to dine or relax in the light-filled conservatory? If you’re a group of eight, then two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living space, but it’s a spacious room. What a great find this is.

With plenty of space to spread out, this ground-floor apartment in an Edwardian home near Westbourne is a fantastic base to return to after a day at the beach. Having a private entrance and garden ensures you have all the privacy you need here, plus private parking is a real premium in this area during the summer months. Although there's room for six, we think the main bedroom is better suited to two adults and two children, while the second bedroom is ideal if you're travelling with another couple. When it's time to explore, you'll find the beautiful sandy beach of Alum Chine just 350 metres away, whilst a 15-minute walk will get you to the eclectic mix of boutiques, cafes and bars of Westbourne and its beautiful Victorian arcade.

If you’re on the lookout for a chic seaside pad for a family gathering, it’s here. This four-bedroom home stands on a leafy street, seven minutes from the sea, within easy walking distance of Ashley Cross village. 

There is bags of space inside and out. On sunny days, throw open the double doors from the lounge into the sprawling enclosed garden. Here the kids can frolic on the lawn while the grown-ups set the world to rights in the sunken hot tub or sauna. 

The kitchen is big and kitted out with everything you need. It’s a great vibe here. We love the odd pop of statement wallpaper here and there. 

Spend days discovering the local beaches. Head to Sandbanks, Flaghead Chine and Branksome Chine. Each has a private beach hut with a stove, deck chairs and games which you're welcome to use for a small fee. They belong to the host so feel free to claim them for your entire stay. The local town has plenty of top-rated restaurants. Or burn off some energy in Poole Park where there are 110 acres of walking trails, lakes and woodland.

This Southbourne home is a bit special. Just steps from Charminster High Street, this ground floor flat is brimming with Victorian character. It's a lovely red-brick townhouse, with plenty of historic charm to admire – think high ceilings and picture rails, ornamental ceiling roses, tall skirting boards and large bay windows flooding the rooms with light. Though it's on the smaller side, it's been well-designed to maximise the space – we think it's perfectly suited to a couple after a romantic escape. Read the morning paper in the plush armchair, help yourself to a selection of cereals and teas at the rustic breakfast bar or unwind after a busy day with a movie night in the cosy living room. The kitchenette is more suited to light bites than extravagant meals, so in the evenings you may want to dine out – there's an array of cafes, pubs and restaurants in Charminster to choose from. Bournemouth town centre and its sandy beaches are a twenty-five-minute walk (though we recommend driving), or venture a little further and enjoy a trip to the Jurassic Coast, famous for its fossils – you can be there in under an hour.

A fifteen-minute walk from the sea, this light-filled apartment is an excellent place to recharge after a day out and about in Bournemouth. There are plenty of entertainment options to keep you occupied when you're not exploring – strum a tune on the acoustic guitar, put a record on the vinyl player, curl up with a well-thumbed book or sprawl out on the sofa and watch a Netflix movie.
