On warmer days, we would love nothing more than to take our morning cup of tea and breakfast outside to the home’s courtyard to enjoy the fresh air. Then, explore everything that Beverley has to offer, from Saturday markets to antique centres, from its thriving music scene to competitive escape room fun. What’s more, the medieval skyline remains unspoilt, so why not stop at a cafe and enjoy the view?

Built in 1510 and lovingly restored using traditional handcrafts by the owners, the cottage fuses heritage architecture and cosy countryside living to perfection.

The devil really is in the detail here – from the freshly cut flowers to the gourmet breakfast baskets and afternoon tea spreads (both bookable for an additional fee).

Set in one of the most beautiful parts of Yorkshire, this formerly derelict barn was chanced across by its owners in 2015, and lovingly converted into the stunning home it is today. The vibe is English country, with real moments of grandeur. With antlers on the walls, fine china ornaments, touches of tartan, and a solid teak dining table that wouldn’t look out of place in a stately home, it’s the kind of place you can imagine a hunting party coming back to after a day out on the moors. The grand feel continues in the bedrooms, each of which is as luxurious as the last but has its own unique design. We can see ourselves spending windswept days walking the hills of God’s Own Country before returning to pre-dinner drinks by the fire in the snug (the original stone floor is particularly gorgeous). Once the kids are set up with a movie in the second living room, a candlelit meal around the dining table beckons, followed by a session in the wood-fired hot tub.

Walk for two minutes, and you'll be on the sandy beach - perfect for sunbathing or rock pool exploration. The village of Robin Hood's Bay is just five miles from the seaside delights of Whitby (and its two-mile-long beach). It's also part of the North York Moors National Park, so you can forget about the city and hike through unspoiled nature or take the authentic steam train through the hills for a more relaxed scenic journey. After a long day of seeing the sights, return to this special cottage to warm up by the open fire or get the barbecue going on the patio in the summer months (perhaps accompanied by a gin and tonic you've smuggled in).

In the heart of Pickering, this stone charmer is just a six-minute walk from the North Yorkshire Moors Railway. We're especially fond of the rear garden, which is a sweet spot to enjoy a morning brew or an alfresco G&T. A huge perk is that this pad is pet-friendly, welcoming one well-behaved dog to join in on the fun. Despite the plain bedrooms and basic bathrooms, overall, we think it's a good option for families keen to explore North Yorkshire.

The dine-in kitchen has everything you need for self-catering and bedrooms are cosy spots to lay your head.

There’s a local shop, tea room, pub and café within walking distance, but it’s all about rambles into the countryside here. Bedrooms are cosy spots for sound sleep, but it’s the barbecue deck outside that takes the cake with a panoramic view of the valley and hills.

We can hear the seagulls cry already. With such close proximity to the town centre of Scarborough from this home, you'll have plenty of other dining options, plus high street shopping to discover – set back from the busy beachfront too. 

Fresh and simple interiors inside the flat present a contemporary space to base yourself in between excursions and beach days. You'll find ample space to kick back for moments of relaxation. And best of all, the building boasts a rooftop terrace with gorgeous sea views. So take a picnic up to the seating area and lap up the seaside ambience more secludedly while plotting your next day's trip around North Yorkshire. Whitby, Staithes, Robin Hood's Bay and Filey are all within an hour's drive away from here.

Restored to high quality, the cottage itself is a humble breath of fresh air, that feels completely private despite its close proximity to the host's main house. Cosy interiors create a warm and welcoming space to snuggle up in after a day of taking in the country air. Sip a cup of tea in front of the log burner fire – oh and there's underfloor heating too, so you needn't worry about getting cold toes here. Outside you'll have your own private decking area with picturesque views over the garden. It's a haven of wildlife during the spring and summer months – if you're lucky you might even get to see the pheasant that often frequents this space. Get the barbecue going when it's warm out and spend the evening stargazing up at the twinkling sky (since there are no street lights here – it's an incredible sight). If you're staying for a few days you might want to venture out to discover more of historic Lincoln – check out the city's castle and cathedral, only a forty-minute drive away. Not to mention the miles of unspoilt coastline that is easily in reach if you head further east.

The second bedroom is on the small side, but it has everything needed for a comfortable night’s sleep and the rest of this home more than makes up for it. In particular, we love the outdoor space – an added bonus for an apartment, it offers a spot to soak up the last of the day’s sun and is perfect for those bringing their four-legged friend along for the ride. 

The Heart of the Sea

This elegant cottage in the ancient town of Pickering had us on the private outdoor terrace alone. But step inside, and this home keeps on surprising. 

We'd call it a love nest for two, but it's just too big for that. Crash out in the snuggly living room, with rattan accents and statement lighting, bringing a dash of modernity. Rustle up a meal in the made-for-action gallery kitchen. Then settle down for a tête-à-tête and evening meal in the separate dining room, with french doors leading out onto that terrace. 
When legs are weary after days exploring the Yorkshire Dales, sink into the enormous freestanding bath, and upstairs, a luxurious bedroom awaits to bank a peaceful night's sleep. 

Just outside this home, wander-worthy cobbled streets lead down to a medieval castle and the town's very own steam railway station to transport you back in time (both less than five minutes on foot). 

There's plenty to do in the lands beyond, too, if you'd rather up the ante. The North York Moors national park is just a three-minute drive away (forty minutes on foot). 

And when thoughts turn to food, there are some delightful pubs just moments away. And a charming tearoom for your fix of Yorkshire Fat Rascals is dangerously close - it's just below your door.

This spectacular converted barn in the Yorkshire Wolds is great for large groups and families wanting to stay together in comfort and style. 

The interiors span over 4500 square feet, meaning there is plenty of space for everyone. There are eight bedrooms, each with an en-suite, set across two floors. In the living area, the floor to ceiling windows pay homage to the breathtaking views of rolling green Yorkshire countryside. The farmhouse style kitchen is fully stocked with high spec appliances, and has a clever marble island that doubles up as a breakfast bar. Come evening, gather together at the banqueting table, with seats for sixteen. Brick slips and original wooden roof beams lend the space a modern yet rustic feel, while the marble and stone clad bathrooms add a touch of decadence. 

Outside, there is a hot tub with room for eight – the perfect place to enjoy a glass of champagne while the sun sets over the hills. On warm summer days, fire up the barbecue while the kids play on the lawn, and enjoy lunch at the outdoor dining table. Outside there is a walled courtyard and a dew pond, and the house is framed by woodland which offers sanctuary to local wildlife. The Yorkshire Wolds is home to breathtaking scenery as well as quaint towns. The market town of Beverley is a twenty minute drive away, with its picturesque Georgian architecture, historic pubs and excellent restaurants.

Rolling Wolds Barn

Recently refurbished, there's a bit of a natural connection going on in the interior design of this home in the village of Stamford Bridge. As well as house plants dotted liberally about the place — often in unique pots — we spotted an array of woven furnishings and artwork dedicated to the great outdoors. We should also mention the actual outdoors space at this point, too. Step out the back door and you'll find a patio with alfresco seating and a barbecue, which will both come into their own on summer evenings. This overarching theme feels apt given the beautiful countryside within easy reach of the property. The charming Fairy Sanctuary attraction at Northwood Trail is only eighteen minutes away on foot, while the Howardian Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty takes about the same amount of time in the car. If you fancy a day in town, however, the centre of York is only a twenty-five-minute drive.

Sitting on the edge of the North Riding Forest Park, this modern cottage places you amid the pretty village of Thornton Dale. Immerse yourself in local life by lacing up your walking boots and exploring the great outdoors. A short drive from here, you'll find the heather-covered North York Moors, where religious ruins and cycle paths await.
