If you’re in search of an easygoing Cotswolds getaway, this home makes a great option. With honeyed stone walls and a Grade II listed status, this bronze South West Award-winning traditional stone cottage is quintessentially Cotswolds. The exposed beams and inglenook fireplaces showcase the building’s considerable heritage (it dates back to 1670), but you’ll find plenty of modern comforts here, as well as cosy styling that favours neutral tones and natural textures. We love that it’s a home for all seasons — stride out on blustery walks in the winter months, before coming back to underfloor heating, a wood burner and thick goose down duvets. In the summer, the British countryside is arguably at its best and here you get access to a large birdsong-filled garden with plenty of shady spots for a gin and tonic. Stargazers are in luck here as there are no streetlights in the local village of Southrop and the Milky Way shines extra bright. And of course, what would a country getaway be without a nearby pub? The Swan can be reached in about three minutes' walk, although the Victoria Inn takes half an hour in case you fancy earning your pint.

You’ll find this cottage in the most historic part of picturesque Burford. Grade II listed and dating back to the 1500s, this home blends old-world charm and modern comforts. Curl up beside the wood-burning stove beneath wooden beams, and listen to the church bells ring on the hour. The classic country cottage garden is a wonderful spot for a barbecue – you can see neighbours coming and going thanks to its higgledy piggledy nature. Discover atmospheric pubs a few minutes away, set off on country walks, and visit beautiful Bourton-on-the-Water, just 9 miles away.

Second Nature is the best of both worlds. Found on the edge of Cheltenham, it’s only a short drive from the city, while still feeling incredibly idyllic and rural because of its immediate surroundings. Ideally placed for countryside walks, the Cotswold Way passes right behind the home, along with several other walking paths. We loved the attention to detail – the handmade, one-of-a-kind four-poster bed is truly something else. And let’s not forget about the views… We particularly enjoyed gazing at the green fields from the living room window.

Take the most quintessential thatched cottage you ever did see, located in the heart of the Cotswolds. Add a suntrap, walled garden for morning coffees and evening barbecues. Throw in a 15th Century National Trust-owned inn, just a stone's throw away, for long lazy lunches. And all tied up in the neat little bow that is Bretforton, a thriving village with footpaths leading to orchards, open fields, and riversides. This is a countryside idyll like no other. Inside, this Grade II-Listed home delivers all the character and charm. You'll find window seats and inglenook fireplaces for cosying up. In the traditional kitchen, complete with a range cooker, you'll find a welcome pack waiting, stuffed with goodies including scones, jam, and clotted cream. Climb the winding staircase and discover serene bedrooms with picture-perfect window views. And in the bathroom, a slipper tub placed just so beneath a roof skylight for night-time stargazing. When it's time to spread your wings, jump in the car, and you can be in the bustling village of Broadway with its museums, shops, pubs, and cafes for cream teas in a mere twelve minutes. However, we wouldn't blame you if you decided to stay just exactly where you are.

The English Country Garden

As the name the suggests, this beautifully converted home used to be a dairy, or to be more accurate, a former cheese press. Fully modernised with reclaimed timber floors and underfloor heating throughout, it's now a cosy and comfortable retreat. French doors lead from the sitting room to a flower-filled private garden where you can sit and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the sun go down. As an added bonus, you can pre-order delicious meals from your host during your stay. With plenty of walks and pubs close by, it’s the perfect base for exploring the unspoilt countryside – Bredon Hill and the Malvern Hills are especially lovely. A little further afield are the popular destinations of Stratford-upon-Avon and Cheltenham, both under an hour’s drive away.

Set along the lane which inspired L.S Lowery in his Burford Church painting, this cottage is tucked away from visitors and is one of just four on the road which remains part of Burford Boarding School. A peaceful spot, the cottage is just a minute’s walk from the medieval bridge crossing the River Windrush and all the town’s shops, pubs and restaurants. 

With its distinctive honey-coloured Cotswold stone facade, and an Art Deco panel in the front door – the home a nod's not only to the town's extensive history but also to its link to the Art and Crafts Movement. Upon entering the home you'll be warmly welcomed by a typically English countryside retreat revealing an open plan layout featuring a cosy kitchen, dining area and living area with a wood-burning stove. 

At the back of the cottage, you'll find a hidden garden with a patio, small lawn with a garden bench, planted borders as well as a cute little summer house – perfect for sitting with a book amidst the peace and quiet. The east-west orientation of the garden means it has sunshine on it – weather permitting – throughout the day and on into the evening, making it an idyllic spot for a morning coffee through to evening drinks.

When you're ready to explore the local area, stretch your legs with a blissful country walk around the Cotswolds. Try a five-mile walk out of Burford to Great and Little Barrington along the Windrush Valley and back again, or there's always the option of the two-hour circular walk taking in Fulbrook and Woodford on your way. Burford garden centre is only a mile away and you'll conveniently find the nearest pub (The Highway Inn) just 300 metres away. 

When you arrive home, you needn't worry about traipsing mud through the cottage as there is a handy boot room with a sink, hooks to hang coats, plenty of space to keep boots and shoes.

Living on the grounds of a 16th century country-house in the lush green Cotswolds (the largest Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty) already creates the ideal setting for nature lovers. Once you settle in with biscuits, fresh scones and fruits on arrival (among other goodies) and befriend the curious chickens, embark on a walk through the rolling Cotswold hills and valleys. While Netflix and cocoa are perfect for rainy days in, there is a whole world out there on sunnier days. The Cotswold Way is a trail that we’d definitely recommend, with plenty of historic pubs along the way, each serving their own collection of local ales. The home is located in Painswick, a village known as The Queen of the Cotswolds and characterised by beautiful narrow streets of honey coloured stone buildings dating back to the fifteenth century. Legend has it that the Devil won’t let a hundredth tree grow. There are all sorts of cafes and restaurants in and around the village, so make sure you ask the host, Hannah, for some recommendations.

You’ll find this Grade II listed home just a stone’s throw from Stow-on-the-Wold and Lower Swell – in other words, perfectly placed to explore the Cotswolds. Full of charm, it’s the little added luxuries that make this space special for us. A copper bath, wood burner, and a section of glass floor showcasing the source of the spa waters below are just some of the touches you can enjoy. If you’re not soaking up the rolling countryside views from the garden, the nearby hiking trails will have you pulling on your boots and heading out to explore in no time.

When you think of the Cotswolds, chances are you picture chocolate-box villages, cobbled lanes and that famous honey-coloured stone. Stow-on-the-Wold promises all that and more. It's home to chic restaurants, traditional inns, cosy pubs and plenty of independent shops ripe for browsing. With countryside walks on your doorstep and many Cotswolds attractions within driving distance, this is a desirable place to be – and we absolutely adore this cottage, which is smack-dab in the centre of town. Once an antique showroom, this inviting homestead is now filled with local artwork – including paintings by the host's grandfather – as well as The Cotswold Company furniture and every amenity you can think of. Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. In the evenings, light the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal, gathering around the fire pit for toasted marshmallows when the air turns chilly. 

Host Susy goes above and beyond, providing everything you'll need, be it a complete dinner set and kitchen loaded with appliances and crockery to the luxury toiletries in the bathrooms. She can even arrange restaurant reservations and has a whole slew of recommendations, so you'll be in excellent hands.

Set within a 1,600-acre farm, this renovated stable is a slice of peace and a pop of colour in the Cotswold countryside. When you arrive you'll be greeted by a picture-perfect dream cottage, filled with the original oak beams, chic country flair, and a pretty master bedroom with a view and French doors into the garden. Your nearest neighbours are another stable, so the home is perfect for switching off all communication and settling in for a stay of walking, reading, and eating. The open-plan kitchen and lounge space is ideal for cooking together, as well as a comfy sofa in front of a log-burner, perfect for cuddling up after a day exploring. On sunny days, we love opening the French doors and letting in the fresh air, before wine and nibbles on the south-facing patio. If it gets cold, you can light the fire pit - which is also great for roasting marshmallows. The huge farm is open for exploring, with walks over fields, as well as to the farm's shop, where we love to stock up on food produced on the home's doorstep. The spot is in an excellent location for exploring some of the area’s most picturesque villages, while Cirencester and its smarter restaurants are only a 20-minute drive away.
