Beautiful inside and out. This villa's contemporary 1950's Italian-inspired interior gives way to sprawling Hampshire farmland. Watch sheep graze from in and around the private pool or ample outdoor seating. And let the peaceful atmosphere follow you inside by admiring the views through floor-to-ceiling windows. Location-wise, you're a little secluded, which is half the appeal, but Winchester isn't more than a few minutes away by car. Location and looks? You can see why this polished house made it into the collection. Plus, the addition of the private gym and fire pit is another nice touch here.

You'll find this 18th-century cottage in the heart of the South Downs, nestled on the edge of the illustrious Avington Park. Cosiness personified, the snug sitting room has a crackling wood-burner and squishy sofas that beckon for lounging, either with a glass of wine on chilly evenings or a good book on winter afternoons. A separate drawing room is a perfect spot to gather for family game nights, while the rustic kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up Sunday roasts to enjoy around the dining table. Upstairs, the three comfortable bedrooms promise a good night's sleep. Our favourite is the third bedroom, with its exposed beams and vaulted ceilings – it has two double beds, making it a great option for kids. 

If you're in the mood to pick up the pace, Winchester is a fifteen-minute drive and has a wide array of shops, restaurants and museums. Or take it slow and enjoy a ramble through the countryside, stopping for a pint and some pub grub at the country inns.

This remarkable country mansion has had quite the tumultuous history. The estate dates back to 961 and is listed in the Domesday Book. The land was once home to a priory for the monks of Saint Swithun, until Henry VIII appropriated it for his royal courtiers. For ten years, King Charles II took up residence here with Nell Gwyn and their children, and it continued to pass through the hands of the nobility in the proceeding centuries, gaining a reputation as a hedonists' paradise during that time. After a faithful restoration in the latter half of the twentieth century, it's now open to guests looking for a truly inimitable stay. As you can imagine, there's history at every corner, from the painted ballroom ceiling to the portraits hanging in the hallway. The main living room is a sight to behold, with shelves packed full of books, ornate chandeliers and a grand piano sitting at one side, and the huge banqueting room is equally spectacular. The bedrooms are divided into eight apartments and cottages, many with their own kitchens and living rooms for added privacy. Outside, there are expansive grounds to take a morning constitutional, as well as the River Itchen running through with a boat ready for a paddle. The historic town of Winchester is only twelve minutes away in the car, while the first station on the heritage Watercress Railway line can be reached in under ten.

This apartment is blessed with plenty of natural light with windows that overlook Avington's medieval and main courtyards. Each of the individually decorated bedrooms features exposed oak beams, elegant antique furniture and vibrant floral prints that make them feel more contemporary. With the surrounding parkland, it's easy to forget that Avington Park is just five miles outside England's ancient capital city of Winchester. Walk around the area by the cathedral and you'll discover exemplary eateries and the country's largest farmers' market in what is known locally as Hampshire’s foodie capital.

Back in the 16th century, this manor home was managed by the Clerk of the Privy Seal to Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. And this apartment within the manor extolls all the extravagance of a Tudor era country retreat. Cross the Italian courtyard to enter and, stepping inside, you’ll find a charming living room adorned with oil paintings and set around an old fireplace. Original wood floors run from here into the kitchen, which has plenty of natural light from the sash window.

The jewel in this apartment’s crown has to be the master bedroom. Decked out in Tudor-style splendour, you can drift off to sleep in the hand-carved four-poster bed, swathed with satin curtains. An exposed brick fireplace would have welcomed weary travellers back in the day and the separate seating area is particularly atmospheric when lit by candlelight. Four further bedrooms all have their own character and style in midnight-blue, sage-green and coral, all packed with plenty of old-world charm.

Nestled in the rolling hills of Hampshire, this charming flintstone cottage has sprawling views of the surrounding countryside and easy access to walking trails that take you through fields and woods and into picturesque villages with charming pubs. Roaming around this area (including visiting nearby Winchester) feels a bit like taking a step back in history – the air is fresher, the pace of life slower, and the atmosphere much more relaxed. During our visit, we were blown away by host Victoria's friendly nature and attention to detail. She lives on-site in the main house, and on arrival, she'll greet you with homemade jams and fresh eggs from her free-range chickens. Her quintessential English garden is a truly magical place, filled with herbs, flowers and fruit trees – imagine birds singing, deer munching on apples and stargazing under the clear night sky. On clear mornings, open the French doors and enjoy coffee on the terrace in the sunshine. Though there's not heaps of space – there's no living area, and the kitchenette is on the smaller side – it's still a cosy place for a couple to experience an idyllic stay in the country.

There's nothing quite like escaping to the country for a few days and this converted stable barn is a million miles away from the stresses of day-to-day life. Bright, open and immaculate in every way, it's a place to relax, take a deep breath of fresh, country air and enjoy the company of your loved ones. Set on the owners' farm, and right next to their stables, you'll have a great view of the horses being fed each morning – something that's bound to excite the children. 

Anything but rustic, the interiors here are stylish and high-end, with wide-plank flooring and plenty of fabulous stripped back timber beams. The huge living space, surrounded on three sides by floor-to-ceiling windows, is the heart of the home, with squashy velvet sofas, a dining table for six and a delightful kitchen. Equipped with everything you could need, keen cooks will be in their element.

Set in the South Downs National Park, with views across the rolling hills, here you'll have your own private lawned garden area and you're welcome to explore the rest of the grounds. It's a twenty-minute walk into the pretty market town of Bishop's Waltham, with its shops and pubs, and don't miss a visit to the ruins of its historic abbey. And it's less than a half-hour drive to both Southampton and Portsmouth.

For a day of shopping, Oxford Street is the first place on your itinerary. It's lined with all the notable high-street stores and nearby to a huge shopping centre filled with on-trend stores and eating spots. You can spend a whole day perusing the aisles for cool clothing. 

If you prefer to take the day at a leisurely pace, head to the welcoming ambiance of Ocean Village. The marina is shaped by vibrant bars and restaurants offering alfresco dining near the water. Sharing delicious food and drink in the warm evenings by the marina is one of the highlights of the city.

However you spend your days, the apartment is made for putting your feet up and relaxing. A large TV shows your favourite films and TV series, whilst the glass dining table is made for sharing meals. For a treat, sit on the balcony with a glass of wine or beer and enjoy the peace and privacy.

Located in the heart of Southampton – just a three-minute walk to Oxford Street, which is home to several great eateries for meals out – this apartment is a great base for city living. After breakfast here, catch up on important work at the home’s desk space before you head out for the day.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the water of the harbour and admire the boats in Ocean Village – just a short ten-minute walk from your door. Or, indulge in a shopping spree at West Quay shopping centre – reachable in twelve minutes on foot. 

What’s more, the Red Funnel Ferries that will take you to the Isle of Wight for the day are just a fourteen-minute walk or four-minute drive from this home, and if you find yourself inspired, the apartment’s desk space is the perfect spot to begin a novel set on the island. Then, after a fantastic meal out or a home-cooked dinner, we would love to head up to the shared roof terrace on the sixth floor at sunset to admire the stunning views of the cityscape.

This Grade-II listed home's white exterior and large bay windows make this address stand out from its neighbours and it all looks rather palatial, we must say. This impression continues when you head inside and spot the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, the ornamental fireplaces and the lacquer dining table. The kitchen is rather more rustic in appearance, with exposed brickwork working nicely alongside the skylight constructed out of the sail from a boat — a thoughtful nod to the region's nautical culture. Step out of the French doors and you'll find yourself in the home's garden, which comes with tidy plant rows, an alfresco seating area and a hot tub for those warm summer evenings — or even those chilly winter ones if you're feeling hardy. The home's location in the seaside village of Hamble-le-Rice presents a plethora of distractions to keep your guests entertained. It's possible to see the Hamble River rolling on by from the kitchen and bedrooms windows, and if it gives you the inspiration to see it up close, it only takes two minutes to walk to the historic waterfront with its quay and marinas. The port city of Southampton is only a twenty-minute drive away, too.

This cosy cabin is the perfect little bolthole for couples wanting to escape to the country. The location right at the heart of the New Forest means you’ll feel miles away from the stresses of daily life – as you fly down country lanes on your bike, you’ll feel your worries melting away. 

The cabin is just outside of Brockenhurst, in an area that feels secluded but isn’t too far from the nearest shops. You can stroll to the pub in fifteen minutes, which is a welcome sight after a day spent hiking the trails. A four-minute drive will get you to beautiful Beaulieu, which is well worth an afternoon strolling around after lunch in a cafe. The abbey is just six minutes from the cabin – the tranquil ruins are always popular with history buffs. 

If you need an ice cream on the beach for it to feel like a holiday, you’re in luck. Fifteen minutes by car will have you on a sandy shore, though we can’t guarantee it’ll be paddling weather. 

For us, the real joy of this cabin is its countryside setting. Walking just five minutes from the front door will see you on walking and cycling trails. When your feet start to feel sore, head back to the cabin to soak in the luxurious claw-foot tub before spending the evening in front of the fire. Absolute bliss.

Sandwiched between the South Downs National Park and the Chichester Harbour AONB, it doesn’t get more away-from-it-all country glam than this little Sussex nook. It’s on the edge of a wildlife meadow, so sessions on the private terrace come with the soundtrack of birdsong and a gentle summer breeze. Spot wildlife from the warmth of the private hot tub on the deck, or perhaps from the swing seat, strung up on the porch. 

The interior is a reflection of the wilderness location, with wooden artworks featuring fawns and birdlife on display in the cosy bedrooms. The window seat in the master makes for the perfect reading nook, overlooking the meadow, and there’s a desk in here should you need to work remotely. The vaulted, wood-beam ceiling is twisted with stringed lights for a fairytale effect and there’s plenty of room at the rustic wooden table for the group to dine inside (if you’re not enjoying an alfresco meal on the terrace, that is). Come evening time, the plush sofas in the living room are set around a wood-burning stove.

Spread out across three floors in this modern townhouse. Unique wooden furniture imported from India adds a touch of elegance to the minimalist, white decor. Get together for movie night in the modern living area (there’s Netflix on the smart TV). Breakfast can be made that bit brighter by throwing open the French doors and letting the sunshine in. Or, take the whole show out to the patio on a summer morning. If the kids tire of playing in the Wendy House in the garden, there’s a play park just around the corner. Locally you’ll find a convenience store, café and gym. Walk a little further for a major supermarket, pubs and restaurants. Or jump in your car (there are four private parking spaces at your disposal, you don’t have to worry about parking) and you’re in the bustling heart of Reading town centre in just 10 minutes.

Want to recreate a passionate escape à la Bridgerton - just on a much smaller scale? Then we think you'll fall in love with this home in a 400-year-old former gatehouse lodge. Part of the glorious 5,500-acre St Giles House estate, it's been personally and immaculately renovated by the estate's owner (real-life nobility Lady Shaftesbury) to stunning effect. The natural and historical character - original lead windows, log burner and dove grey stone slabs - pack a punch, but it's her Ladyship's keen eye for style that has elevated this home into a truly romantic stay. We're talking about bold splashes of colour (a vibrant coral in the living room and soothing forest green in the bedroom) plus beautiful illustrated artwork and the highest quality Egyptian cotton sheets. This rural location is the perfect place to hide away from the rest of the world, but if you tire of each other's company, the beaches of the Jurassic Coast, the New Forest and the classic British seaside resorts of Poole and Bournemouth are all within a short drive away.

Just a five-minute walk from the picture-perfect village of Shere in the Surrey Hills, this place is a much-loved family home. Set in five acres of private grounds, with views across the rolling hills, it's bound to be a hit with lovers of the great outdoors, with excellent hiking and cycling routes from your door. A substantial period house approached via a sweeping drive, it's a slice of rural living on a grand scale – there's everything from an outdoor pool and tennis court to a vast vegetable garden and free-range hens. And children will love the sunken trampoline.

Inside, elegant styling, country furnishings and eclectic artwork blend to create a lived-in, warm feeling. A beautiful living room and snug both feature working fireplaces and the kitchen is extremely well-equipped when it comes to cooking for a large group (yes, there really are two dishwashers). You can even cook alfresco meals down at the pool house. But its most impressive room has to be the orangery, where a long dining table is the star of the show, against a backdrop of vast windows and doors with spectacular views.

Perfect for special gatherings, and with a new yoga studio, it's also a flexible space with an additional cottage and a garden studio that can be rented alongside it. And when you're not entertaining, the village, with its tea shop and pretty church, is just a stroll through the fields – one of the most scenic villages in England, you may recognise it as one of the locations where the movie The Holiday was filmed.

Hunker down with your dearest at this countryside barn idyll nestled away in Wiltshire’s rural pastures fringing the North Wessex Downs. Once a milking parlour from the late 1940s, this chic retreat has undergone quite a transformation in recent times. Downstairs, you’ll find a designer kitchen and a glorious, light-filled living space. While upstairs, on a magnificent glass balustrade mezzanine level, a luxurious king-sized bed and high-spec bathroom, complete with a freestanding bath with mineral salts and candles for a therapeutic soak, awaits. And you’ll love the thoughtful little touches throughout the barn like the original art and bespoke furniture.

A home to enjoy in all seasons, winter months are all about country walks including The National Trust Coombe and the Ridgeway Trail (and perhaps a pitstop at the neighbouring village pubs for a swift drink) before cosying up back at home. In the summer months, take things outside to savour lazy breakfasts bathed in the morning sunshine. Nestled between two islands on the picturesque banks of the River Thames – this beautiful thatched Edwardian home built in 1903, under a fifteen-minute drive from Windsor, is the perfect riverside retreat. Watch the boats, ducks and swans on the river go by from your own private heated pool. Lawns stretch down to the water – perfect for a game of croquet or challenge someone to a game of table tennis. There’s also a multipurpose play area for any younger children.

Inside, you'll see more of those divine riverside vistas. There are two living rooms and plenty of space for entertaining your family or friends. We love the master bedroom’s balcony, but a real highlight of this home for us was the bedroom attached to the side of the house on stilts. It’s constructed out of 19th century beams from one of the last pioneering ships bound for Australia and contains beautiful carvings and unique features from this period.

When you want to explore, your hosts can help arrange River Thames boat trips to pick you and your guests up directly from the garden. There’s also a lovely pub in the nearby village of Wraysbury, a ten-minute walk away. As well as close proximity to Windsor and Eton, Ascot racecourse is just over twenty minutes in the car and Thorpe Park, a fifteen-minute ride, while Henley, which hosts the Royal Regatta is forty minutes. If you visit London, Slough train station (a fifteen-minute drive away) runs services to London Paddington, the fastest being fourteen minutes.



One of England's Watery Gems

Situated on a historic private estate in the heart of Gloucestershire, this dreamy cottage is the perfect setting for your next family getaway to the Cotswolds. 

You’d be hard-pressed to find a cosier base than this – boasting a snug living room complete with soft throws and a toasty fireplace, this is the kind of place we all dream of coming home to after a chilly day in the English countryside. Warm up with a cup of tea on the sofa or head upstairs to the family bathroom for a relaxing bubble bath before drifting off to sleep in one of the cottage's quiet bedrooms.

The next morning, start your day with a breakfast of locally produced organic goodies from the local farm shop or – if the weather’s on your side – head out to the garden and soak up some sun. This is the perfect place for little ones and four-legged friends to roam but there’s plenty to explore in the local area if you fancy a change of scenery. Breathe in the sweet scent of lime blossom as you travel down the 800-metre private road leading out of the estate – with Westonbirt Arboretum, Berkeley Castle, and The Cotswold Water Park all within striking distance, you've got plenty of destinations to choose from so why not ditch the GPS and see where the day takes you?

Get far away from the madding crowd in Thomas Hardy’s Dorset with this beautiful home – it’s the perfect romantic retreat. Surrounded by woodland, relax in the hot tub with a glass of fizz (or whip up a smoothie with the blender in the kitchen), and when the sun sets, cosy up by the fire pit. There’s a hammock to unwind in as well. 

The sylvan setting can be admired through the French doors in the living room, too – keep your eyes peeled for visiting wildlife. At the end of an idyllic day, head up to bed in the treehouse-like bedroom with its honeycomb-shaped, whitewashed wood ceiling before exploring the area the following morning. 

Out and about, the market town of Blandford Forum, with its array of eateries, is a six-minute drive. Alternatively, the National Trust’s Kingston Lacy, a country house and estate near Wimborne Minster, is eight minutes in the car, while Thomas Hardy's Cottage is twenty-three minutes. Further afield, Sandbanks, with its award-winning beach and chic boutiques, is just over a thirty-five-minute ride, so there’s plenty to keep you busy here.

Situated on a small family-run agricultural nursery, we think this luxury lodge is the perfect place to switch off and recharge. Not only is the location excellent – the idyllic South Downs are practically on your doorstep – but the attention to detail here is second-to-none. Rainfall showers and eco-friendly toiletries in the bathrooms, Netflix on the smart TVs and a panini maker in the kitchen are just a few of the things we love. The design is impeccable with blue velvet, dark greys and lots of wood. It's the perfect blend between rustic, country living and contemporary comforts, with chic furniture handmade by host Lucca. Speaking of, he'll leave a welcome hamper brimming with goodies for you to enjoy, and depending on the season, it'll contain fresh Italian fruit and veg grown on their farm. 

Days start and end here out on the deck, enjoying alfresco breakfasts in the sun and evening dips in the private hot tub. In between, set off and explore the local area – just walk out the front gates and you're on the National Trust South Downs footpath, leading towards Highdown Hill. A fourteen-minute walk away is the local pub, a few eateries and shops in Ferring, and it's only a five-minute drive to the beach. And with Worthing, Chichester and Brighton all less than an hour by car, you'll have plenty of options for adventures around West Sussex.

Set on an organic farm with countless nature walks on your doorstep, this is a great spot to switch off and get in touch with nature. But if you're in the mood for a change of pace, Bath is just a twenty-minute drive away.
