Tucked away, off a country road close to Ledbury, this charming little home comes as quite a surprise. With its rural surroundings and nearby grazing sheep, its bold industrial styling is a real statement, with deep hues on the walls and lots of reclaimed wood. Vaulted ceilings, exposed brickwork and wooden beams add plenty of character but it's touches like the vintage radiators, scaffold pole headboard in the bedroom and the exposed copper pipework in the bathroom that make this place really sing. 

Somewhat upside-down in its layout, the main living space is on the top floor, with direct access to the pretty garden – a private sanctuary. Lounge on the leather sofa, cook in the stylish kitchen area or eat at the table in front of the patio doors. For extra snugness, there's a second lounge on the lower floor, complete with an electric fire for cosy film nights. And while we love the bedroom here, with its sumptuous mattress and faux fur throws, it's the bathroom that stole our hearts – its copper bathtub is a real showstopper.

From here it's a just four-minute drive to the pretty town of Ledbury, and keen walkers will be in their element with the Malvern Hills, the Cotswolds, the Wye Valley and the Forest of Dean all within an hour's drive. If you're here during the autumn, you can ask for access to the neighbouring orchard, where you can help yourself to some seasonal fruit, and you can even treat yourself to a private yoga lesson – your host is an experienced instructor.

Fully modernised with reclaimed timber floors and underfloor heating throughout, it's now a cosy and comfortable retreat. We have just the ticket if you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a small family escape. This secluded Malvern Hills lodge (handcrafted by your host, Richard) is surrounded by rolling countryside. Relax in the wood-fired hot tub with a glass of local cider, or simply admire the panoramic hilltop views from the terraced gardens. The garden is on three levels with beautiful Cotswold dry stone retaining walls, hornbeam hedges and rose-planted borders. In the summer, picnic on the lawn or unwind in the oak-framed, covered swing seat. Then cook up a feast in the outdoor cooking area with its barbecue and wood pellet pizza oven.

Every detail has been carefully considered – even the furniture is individually crafted. Spend the evening snuggled up by the log burner, then get a good night’s sleep in the comfy bedrooms. We love the recycled wood panelling here. In the morning, wake up refreshed in this tranquil haven and see the light streaming through the bedroom’s roof light overhead.

After breakfast, go for a stroll in the Malvern Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty or explore the Victorian spa town of Malvern. Other places of interest include Upton upon Severn, Ledbury and Tewkesbury. Alternatively, the Forest of Dean is only a half-hour drive away. Or for a pub lunch, the nearest pub is a 200-yard stroll through the fields.

Relax with a glass of bubbly in the private hot tub with its idyllic views through the farm to the fields beyond (your lovely hosts provide bathrobes and slippers), then savour a barbecue lunch in the sun. It's also the perfect spot to do a bit of stargazing when the night skies are clear and full of sparkling diamonds. Beautiful bi-fold doors provide plenty of light inside this single-level barn, which was once a grain store. We love the gorgeous stone floor and exposed wooden roof beams framing the high ceiling. A fresh colour scheme of pale cream, yellows and greys complement the rustic yet stylish design. If you can tear yourself away from this love nest, there's plenty to explore. Go for a walk to the historic riverside village of Bidford-on-Avon, sixteen minutes on foot, where you'll find an array of charming pubs, restaurants, shops, and a picturesque church built in 1250. Or visit Shakespeare's Stratford-upon-Avon, around a twenty-five-minute drive, while stunning Warwick Castle is a few minutes more in the car. The magnificent Cotswolds are on your doorstep too – Hidcote Manor Garden, near Chipping Campden, just over a fifteen-minute ride, which has one of Britain's most influential Arts and Crafts gardens.

With the flexibility to sleep up to 24 people, this magical country house is all set up for special events, gatherings of friends and family, activity holidays and more. With views across the Wye Valley, it's set on five acres of pristine land and has nine bedrooms for you to choose between – either in the beautifully restored and extended 17th-Century farmhouse or the stunning new guest annexe. 

Lovers of interior design will have a field day here. It's been impeccably put together by its owner Kari, a professional designer, with nods to traditional country chic, contemporary cool and even Antipodean modern rustic – Kari grew up in Australia. The main house having been extended, the old stable unit was transformed into an architect-designed annexe with a series of split-level suites that wouldn't look out of place in a boutique hotel in Shoreditch.

The huge, 40ft kitchen is equipped with everything you'll need to cook for your group, with an incredible four ovens, five hobs and two dishwashers, or you can take the hard work out of it by hiring a private chef. You'll have four main living spaces with enough room to get together as a large group or enjoy a bit of privacy, and there are all sorts of outdoor seating spots – including a fire pit area, dining terrace and an Aussie-style shack enjoying views across the valley.

Built for entertaining, you'll have a games barn where you can play table tennis, work out on the gym equipment and grab some garden games, as well as a room perfect for group activities. There's even a wood-fired hot tub, a children's natural play area and private fields for you to explore.

Just a few miles from the book town of Hay-on-Wye, it's easy to explore the Welsh border from here, and hiking, cycling and canoeing are all popular local attractions. And if you fancy an action-packed break, your host can put together a unique itinerary for your group. You're bound to make memories that last a lifetime.

This barn conversion in deepest Herefordshire is bursting with rural authenticity. Not only is the property located close to a peaceful nature reserve complete with lakes, but it's also been Grade-II listed to protect its historical importance. However, despite this impressive pedigree, the home's interior is pretty contemporary, with a sleek kitchen, four-poster bedrooms and tiled bathrooms sitting quite comfortably underneath the original wooden ceiling beams. Out the front, there's a private garden with seating and views of hills and forests, but there's also an additional courtyard to the back that's shared with neighbours. If gazing out at the countryside vista inspires you to explore this beautiful county, you're well-placed for bird-spotting and long rambles, perhaps finished with a meal at The Stagg Inn, a well-praised gastropub that sits no more than two minute's walk from your front door.

Perhaps you’ll lace up your boots and head out on a nature walk. There’s an acre of woodland on the 40-acre farm, as well as a stretch of river for you to paddle in. There’s direct access to the Brecon Beacons National Park from the back of the farmhouse, so you won’t run out of hiking or cycling routes. 

When you return after a day exploring the Great Outdoors, you’ll be glad of the mountain spring water hot tub. Fire it up and soak your aching muscles, then spend the rest of the evening playing board games in front of the fire. 

The nearest pub is a fifteen-minute drive, and the cafes and bookshops of Hay-on-Wye are twenty-three minutes away. It may feel like you’re in the middle of nowhere, but you can grab a pint or a slice of cake easily enough. Perfection.

We're happy to say that the home's living quarters are just as romantic, with wooden walls, floors and ceilings lending the feel of an Alpine ski chalet, and the fireplace only adding to this sense of cosiness. The French doors bring in plentiful amounts of natural light and also have the added benefit of looking out to the private garden, which even features a waterfall.

When the weather permits, it's easy to pass hours out in the open air thanks to the seating on the covered terrace and the barbecue ready and waiting for summer feasts. You're also spoilt for choice when it comes to nearby locations for bracing rambles, as the home sits on the edge of the Shropshire Hills AONB. Stokesay Castle is five minutes' drive down the road, while the charming country town of Church Stretton is ten minutes in the other direction.

Hunker down with your dearest at this countryside barn idyll nestled away in Wiltshire’s rural pastures fringing the North Wessex Downs. Once a milking parlour from the late 1940s, this chic retreat has undergone quite a transformation in recent times. Downstairs, you’ll find a designer kitchen and a glorious, light-filled living space. While upstairs, on a magnificent glass balustrade mezzanine level, a luxurious king-sized bed and high-spec bathroom, complete with a freestanding bath with mineral salts and candles for a therapeutic soak, awaits. It’s hidden away within the grounds of the host’s own home, but offers complete privacy. There’s a small but well-equipped galley kitchen with a Nespresso machine and milk frother for a little luxury morning coffee. But our favourite bit is the four-poster, king-size bed which guarantees a luxurious night’s sleep. just what you need after a day tackling some of the best hiking routes in the Cotswolds. The Cotswolds Way runs right by the cottage and walks around Sudeley Castle are just a few miles away.

Snuggle up with a book in front of the wood-burner, challenge the family to a board game around the dining table or relax with a soak in the sumptuous master bathtub. The private courtyard is the perfect spot to savour a cup of tea or a cocktail in the sun. In the evenings, light the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco meal, gathering around the fire pit for toasted marshmallows when the air turns chilly.
