This Victorian home right on the coast has several surprises up its sleeve. Recently renovated, it's a listed building bursting with character and quirky architectural features – like the crenellated facade and the Gothic windows – but it's been brought bang up to date with contemporary interiors and every mod con. The living space is big and bright, with plenty of seating for larger groups, and there's a dining table that will comfortably seat ten. When you've all unpacked and made yourselves at home, you can head to the games room for a pool tournament in front of the 1970s jukebox, or stream a movie in the comfy cinema room. Built in 1929, Art Deco House showcases impressive features that take you back to a bygone era of lavish magnificence and opulent luxuries. All of the furniture and art has been meticulously sourced from English and Viennese beginnings, and it ends up feeling like something from an F Scott Fitzgerald novel – especially, as you wander around the beautifully manicured gardens. It doesn’t hurt that one of the owners is an expert on Champagne either, and can provide you with a personal selection. Whether you're getting together to celebrate a special occasion or simply keen on exploring the beautiful Isle of Wight, Sunburst Splendours is the kind of place that you won’t forget in a hurry.

Modern-day Gatsbys should feel right at home at this glorious art-deco manor. You'll find it in the south of the Isle of Wight, with an unbeatable clifftop location and extraordinary views down to the wind-whipped coastline. It has a number of striking original features including ornate stained-glass windows, period lampshades, a grand spiral staircase, polished wood panelling - and even an old boot cleaner. Throw a 1920s-style party in the dining room (the table seats 22) with drinks until dawn before retiring to your lavishly appointed bedroom. Go outside and you'll find things are just as spectacular, thanks to the shimmering water feature, glamorous terrace and immaculately landscaped garden. And if you run out of champagne don't fear, you're only a short walk from the shops and restaurants in lively Shanklin.

In a secluded spot down a single-track lane, this contemporary barn is a welcome surprise. Renovated in the style of Caruso St John (the famed architects behind the Tate Modern), it's a striking tribute to modern, eco-friendly design – solar panels and a heat source pump power the heating and hot water. The inside is just as dramatic, with copper light fittings, high-design furniture and large picture windows that make the most of the garden views. All the mod-cons are accounted for, including rain showers, a home-cinema projector and underfloor heating to keep chilly toes at bay. Throw a log on the wood-burner for extra cosiness and snuggle up in the window seat with a good book. Outside there's even more to love, including a private pool, leafy garden and a calisthenic gym space that works as a yoga or kickboxing studio. After a morning workout and a dip in the pool, enjoy a walk around Manor Bottom, or if you want to stretch your legs even more, the seaside town of Ventnor is a forty-minute walk away. But our favourite part were the hosts. The amount of love Steven and Agnieszka put into making their guests' stay extra special is quite something. No detail has been overlooked, be it organic toiletries, a welcome hamper filled with local jams and chutneys or arranging on-site massages. They even go the extra mile to carefully curate books and music for each individual guest – safe to say, you'll be in excellent hands.

This Grade-II listed home's white exterior and large bay windows make this address stand out from its neighbours and it all looks rather palatial, we must say. This impression continues when you head inside and spot the chandeliers hanging from the ceiling, the ornamental fireplaces and the lacquer dining table. The kitchen is rather more rustic in appearance, with exposed brickwork working nicely alongside the skylight constructed out of the sail from a boat — a thoughtful nod to the region's nautical culture. Step out of the French doors and you'll find yourself in the home's garden, which comes with tidy plant rows, an alfresco seating area and a hot tub for those warm summer evenings — or even those chilly winter ones if you're feeling hardy. The home's location in the seaside village of Hamble-le-Rice presents a plethora of distractions to keep your guests entertained. It's possible to see the Hamble River rolling on by from the kitchen and bedrooms windows, and if it gives you the inspiration to see it up close, it only takes two minutes to walk to the historic waterfront with its quay and marinas. The port city of Southampton is only a twenty-minute drive away, too.

Pinkmead Estate opened up to the public in 2018, and now you can enjoy all 24 acres just for yourselves. Stunningly beautiful and endlessly peaceful, it's the perfect retreat for a tranquil escape amongst nature. 

The house itself is designed to feel like a cabin with the comforts of modern touches. A bright living room and kitchen provide cosy convenience, yet the home comes to life in the cute kitchen garden and sprawling outside space. 

The kitchen garden is where we suggest spending sunrise or sunset. It offers one of the prettiest views on the island, and it's shaped in comfy seats for unbridled luxury. 

Adjacent to the kitchen garden, you'll find a diverse room tailored to all activities. You can fire up the projector on colder nights to watch your favourite film, or use it as a yoga studio in the mornings for a wholesome start to the day.

How you spend that day is all up to you. You're welcome to use the home's four bikes to explore the gorgeous scenery, or mosey over to the vineyards to pick up some wine for the evenings. 

If you prefer your adventures on the water, your host provides access to kayaks and paddle boards so you can traverse the water. There's also a private jetty, an idyllic spot to sit with a slice of pizza from the pizza oven and bask in the serenity. You also have exclusive access to the vineyards – and there's even a helipad should you wish to arrive in style!

Situated on England's sunny south coast — well, relatively speaking — this home has plenty of ways for you to enjoy a summer's day. The terrace out through the French doors has a glorious view of the River Hamble where you can enjoy paddleboarding, sailing, riverside walks or use as a base for sailing regattas. You can even arrive by boat and moor at the Elephant Boatyard opposite the house. Elsewhere in the large garden, there's a wooden summerhouse with a log burner that brings a touch of apres-ski glamour to this corner of Hampshire, great for cosy sundowners in the winter and family barbecues in summer.

Inside, the preference for wooden interiors continues in the main house, especially in the open-concept living space with its parquet flooring, roof beams and rustic dining table next to a set of tall windows. As well as a huge corner kitchen complete with a sociable island, there are two reception rooms, one with another wood burner for those autumnal evenings.

In the local area, you'll find it easy to enjoy the great outdoors. The River Hamble Country Park is only ten minutes' drive away and is good for a rural walk finished off with a hot chocolate. You're also opposite the Jolly Sailor pub which has roaring log fires in the winter and a great menu for outdoor dining. The centre of Southampton takes just over twenty minutes in the car whenever you fancy a change of pace.

Located in the heart of Southampton – just a three-minute walk to Oxford Street, which is home to several great eateries for meals out – this apartment is a great base for city living. After breakfast here, catch up on important work at the home’s desk space before you head out for the day.

Enjoy a leisurely stroll along the water of the harbour and admire the boats in Ocean Village – just a short ten-minute walk from your door. Or, indulge in a shopping spree at West Quay shopping centre – reachable in twelve minutes on foot. 

What’s more, the Red Funnel Ferries that will take you to the Isle of Wight for the day are just a fourteen-minute walk or four-minute drive from this home, and if you find yourself inspired, the apartment’s desk space is the perfect spot to begin a novel set on the island. Then, after a fantastic meal out or a home-cooked dinner, we would love to head up to the shared roof terrace on the sixth floor at sunset to admire the stunning views of the cityscape.

Pack up your bucket and spades and hit the beach at this contemporary yet playful home located just a five-minute stroll from the unspoilt sandy shores of the exclusive West Wittering Estate. A home begging for an intimate group of family or friends to come together, there's ample space to all spill out here. When the sun shines, pad across the cool, polished concrete floor and slide the patio doors right back to let the sunshine in. Kick back with a morning coffee from the espresso machine on the terrace while children play in the vast lawned garden. Or join them for an impromptu game of football – there's goals ready and waiting for action. On cooler days, come together around the vast dining table and break out the home's board games – the underfloor heating will keep toes toasty. Challenge your troops to a round of table football. Or sneak away upstairs for an early evening bath in the master suite – a glass of something chilled optional. When the sea finally calls, the soft sandy shores and dunes are just five minutes away for castle making, kite flying, and, if you're lucky with the swell, surfing. Anything but rustic, the interiors here are stylish and high-end, with wide-plank flooring and plenty of fabulous stripped back timber beams. The huge living space, surrounded on three sides by floor-to-ceiling windows, is the heart of the home, with squashy velvet sofas, a dining table for six and a delightful kitchen. Equipped with everything you could need, keen cooks will be in their element.

Set in the South Downs National Park, with views across the rolling hills, here you'll have your own private lawned garden area and you're welcome to explore the rest of the grounds. It's a twenty-minute walk into the pretty market town of Bishop's Waltham, with its shops and pubs, and don't miss a visit to the ruins of its historic abbey. And it's less than a half-hour drive to both Southampton and Portsmouth.

While the kids keep busy, you can relax in the vast lounge on a plush sofa, with a warm Earl Grey in hand. And with French doors in the master bedroom, you can open up the curtains to the lush lawn on a sunny morning, or make the most of stargazing opportunities at night. Feel free to pour a tumbler of whisky after the kids have gone to bed.

This warm and homely country estate sits on the edge of Beaulieu River. Prepare yourself for seriously idyllic country scenes. Well, there's no mystery why this home has made our collection. The apartment is right on the beach in East Wittering, so as you can see, it has great views of the sea from the private sunny balcony as well as most rooms. Yes, the galley kitchen is a bit compact if there are more than two people in there, but it's modern and well-equipped. If you tire of East Wittering Beach (unlikely we know), West Wittering Beach, with its views of Chichester, is less than a ten-minute drive. Otherwise, Chichester Marina is just over ten minutes away in the car, and Goodwood House is around a thirty-minute ride.

Tucked away in the heart of Lymington in a peaceful spot just off the High Street, this charming cottage exudes a quiet elegance. Beautiful wood flooring leads you through the lower level – we love the living room, with a squishy chaise sofa that invites you to sink into it and relax. The quaint wooden shutters on the windows add character to the space – it’s easy to imagine cosy nights snuggled down here after a day out walking in the New Forest National Park or exploring the cobbled streets nearby. 

The kitchen boasts all the mod cons you could wish for and blue cabinetry – a colour scheme that’s carried throughout this cottage with distinctive touches that give a nod to your proximity to the coast. For nights in, you can rustle up a delicious home-cooked meals and in the summer months, pour yourself a glass of wine and settle down on the terrace to enjoy your dinner alfresco. 

For days out you’re perfectly placed to wander the High Street's shops, explore the old town quay or even hop on the ferry to head over to the Isle of Wight. With so much to do and your cottage waiting to welcome you home, you’ll enjoy a memorable stay. 

Hideaway in the Heart

This cosy cabin is the perfect little bolthole for couples wanting to escape to the country. The location right at the heart of the New Forest means you’ll feel miles away from the stresses of daily life – as you fly down country lanes on your bike, you’ll feel your worries melting away. 

The cabin is just outside of Brockenhurst, in an area that feels secluded but isn’t too far from the nearest shops. You can stroll to the pub in fifteen minutes, which is a welcome sight after a day spent hiking the trails. A four-minute drive will get you to beautiful Beaulieu, which is well worth an afternoon strolling around after lunch in a cafe. The abbey is just six minutes from the cabin – the tranquil ruins are always popular with history buffs. 

If you need an ice cream on the beach for it to feel like a holiday, you’re in luck. Fifteen minutes by car will have you on a sandy shore, though we can’t guarantee it’ll be paddling weather. 

For us, the real joy of this cabin is its countryside setting. Walking just five minutes from the front door will see you on walking and cycling trails. When your feet start to feel sore, head back to the cabin to soak in the luxurious claw-foot tub before spending the evening in front of the fire. Absolute bliss. 


In The Potting Shed

For the group that likes to spread out on the country getaways, this converted stable near the South Downs is the perfect choice. There’s two of everything: lounges with wood-burning stoves, country-style kitchens and even two separate backyards each with its own hot tub. The full outdoor kitchen under the pergola can accommodate the most elaborate of barbecues in the summer months and when the weather gets cooler you can get a fire going in the outdoor brick fireplace and huddle on the sofa. Inside, striking equestrian-themed artworks are a nod to the building’s former life as a stable and two dining tables (one in each cottage) with long benches are pure rustic country vibes. As the sun sets, it’s a choice between the circular or square hot tub, both bubbling away beneath stringed lights. Here, you’re on the edge of the South Downs National Park, and bedroom windows overlook the estate’s hay meadow for a bit of tranquillity. Yet, the shops, pubs and coffee shops of Bosham village are a fifteen-minute stroll away where you’ll find wildlife-filled walks in the Chichester Harbour Area of Natural Beauty.  

The Equestrian

Only a short stroll from West Wittering Beach, this home provides the perfect base for exploring the West Sussex coast. We love the cosy, seaside-inspired design – think white-washed panelling, wicker furniture, and a cute window seat where you can curl up with a book. Family-style feasts can be rustled up with ease in the kitchen, while the patio is a great place to enjoy an alfresco digestif. As the bunk bed is only suitable for little ones, it's a better fit for families. Factor in the quick drive to Chichester and the proximity to the sea, and it's no wonder it caught our eye.

Set across three floors, the owners have designed this home to bring warmth and fun to daily living. Enjoy slow mornings in the sun-dappled living room, get creative in the fully equipped kitchen and spend lazy afternoons with a book by the fire. And when the weather draws you outside, the garden is a wonderful spot for balmy evening drinks and barbecue meals. Kids will also love playing in the tree house. 

Beyond this private sanctuary, it’s just a short walk to East Wittering beach as well as the local pub and shops, while Chichester Marina is less than a fifteen-minute drive away. So whether you’re hiking, sightseeing or simply enjoying the bliss of doing nothing, this home has everything you could need to experience the natural charm of the West Sussex Coast.

Situated less than a hundred metres from the seafront, this modern home feels like a beach hut's sophisticated older sibling.
