When it comes to London neighbourhoods, some visitors are guilty of overlooking Farringdon, which is a pretty big sin in our books — not only is it excellently located between the bright lights of the city centre and the trendier East, but it's full of exciting restaurants, interesting museums and industrial architecture. It's also home to effortlessly cool apartments, such as this one.

In the open-concept living-kitchen area, light flows through the space thanks to windows on either end. The design is definitely Scandi in influence — clock the clean lines and preference for wood surfaces — but the abstract artwork stops it from feeling too identikit. This penthouse apartment just a stone’s throw from Covent Garden is something of a showstopper. Carefully curated with a keen eye for design, the decor is pared-back chic with a cool London edge that makes it feel wonderfully modern. We love the exposed brick wall in the downstairs living area that adds a trendy warehouse vibe to the proceedings, while the upstairs office nook offers the perfect spot to catch up on work when you’re not out seeing the sights. 

Our favourite spot, however, is the wonderfully sunny roof terrace. With views of the London Eye and the city’s striking skyline, this is the place you’ll want to begin your mornings over a cup of freshly brewed coffee or end evenings with a celebratory drink as you watch the light fade over the capital. 

And while you’ll relish the quietness of your city retreat, you need only step outside to be fully immersed in the heart of the Big Smoke. Wander the cobblestone streets of Covent Garden (a one-minute walk) where you’ll find plenty of high-end boutiques and enticing eateries, or soak up the lively atmosphere of Leicester Square, a six-minute stroll from your door. You’re also a ten-minute walk from Waterloo Bridge that will lead you over to Southbank while the British Museum is a mere twelve minutes away on foot from your home.

Whether you’re starting mornings off here over coffee and locally bought pastries, or ending the night with a glass of wine and some artisan cheese from Neal’s Yard Dairy, you’ll love whiling away the hours in this serene outdoor haven. Elsewhere in the home, your host has ensured every detail maximises your relaxation and comfort, providing Neal’s Yard toiletries, luxurious bedding and bespoke decor (we love the custom tiling in the bathroom). When you’re not chilling out in your rooftop pad, go out and explore your surroundings. The boutique and theatre-lined Seven Dials is just outside your doorstep, while cobbled Covent Garden is a five-minute walk away. Leicester Square, Chinatown and Soho are all within a ten-minute walk away too, offering some of the city’s most celebrated restaurants, shops and bars. 


Neal's Rooftop Retreat

From this traditionally-minded yet well-maintained Mayfair apartment, there's a little taste of luxury in every direction. To your east is Liberty department store and there are further designer shopping options to your north on Bond Street. Head south and in two minutes, you could be on Savile Row, while wandering further west along these embassy-lined streets will get you to Grosvenor Square. However, despite this unbeatable location, we found this home to be extremely peaceful and a welcome refuge from the non-stop going-ons of Central London. The chic kitchen was a highlight here, with smart brass finishes contrasting nicely with honeycomb marble tiling, but let's not kid ourselves — with this many renowned restaurants only a short stroll away, don't be surprised if this home's oven remains undisturbed during the duration of your stay.

Zodiac Court

Enviably located in the heart of upmarket Fitzrovia, this apartment is just an eight-minute walk from Regent’s Park and ten minutes from Goodge Street tube station, putting you within easy reach of London’s most famous attractions. The place is well-appointed with everything you need for self-catering, guaranteeing a comfortable home-from-home for a solo traveller or couple. And to make your arrival all the more welcoming, your host provides complimentary toiletries and a welcome pack with tea, coffee and biscuits.
