This Vauxhall home is an ideal base for a London getaway, away from the hustle and bustle of the city. Sure, you can hear some Tube noise here, but it’s a small price to pay for a home spanning four floors. Comfortable for larger groups, there’s plenty of space to spread out here, and those in the city on business will appreciate the office for remote working. The cherry on top for us is the walled garden – just the spot for morning coffee before a day of sightseeing. Locally, cricket fans will adore the proximity to the iconic Oval, while shopaholics can head to Battersea Power Station for a little retail therapy.

We were bowled over by this apartment's location, just over a fifteen-minute walk from The Oval cricket ground. It has been the home of Surrey County Cricket Club since it was opened in 1845 and is a regular venue for test match cricket. 

If you're stumped for other places to go in the area, then head to Beaconsfield Contemporary Art (seven minutes on foot) – there's a lovely vegan café here too. Or one of London's best-loved attractions, the London Eye, is under a thirty-minute walk. History lovers, on the other hand, can visit the Imperial War Museum, a twelve-minute stroll away. It's the same walking distance to the Beefeater Gin Distillery, where you can take a tour or stop off at one of the many restaurants on the doorstep of this belter of a home. 

Relax on the sunny balcony with a drink in hand – we were hit for six when we saw the vistas over the capital's skyline. The living space is light and bright, thanks to its large patio doors, allowing light to flood in. After all that exploring, have a soak in the bath and then relax on the comfy sofa. This place is the perfect pad for a couple or solo traveller looking to take advantage of all that London has to offer.

There's a real industrial vibe here with smart exposed brickwork, steel countertop surfaces and exposed cabling. The open-plan living area, with floor to ceiling windows, a large dining table, and 65" TV is made for socialising and conversing. Come the summer months the shared outdoor area, with its barbecue and plentiful seating, is a special space to be together as a group. The bedrooms lack a little pop without much artwork, but apart from that, with their blackout blinds, they do the job.

A modern retreat, this apartment can be found in St George’s Wharf, right beside the Thames. You’ll be able to enjoy views of the River Thames and the London skyline from the comfort of your living room and the balcony. Two guests will sleep on a sofa bed in the living room, so if you’re hoping for more privacy we’d stick to a maximum of four guests. The Tate Britain is nearby, and you’ll be able to visit the London Eye and the Houses of Parliament easily, especially if you hop on a Thames river cruise.

One has a desk for those working remotely while staying in the Big Smoke.

When you're ready to explore, Battersea Power Station is about a twenty-minute walk down the river and is home to shops and restaurants. Originally built in the 1730s, this sumptuous apartment is a shining example of Georgian architecture. The building is one of the oldest in Mayfair – in 1821, famed Buckingham Palace architect Thomas Cubbit extended it – and you can see the character, history and period details in every room. It feels like a home you want to linger in, with new surprises waiting at every turn. We love the antique furniture – a clawfoot desk here, a fauteuil armchair there – but the smart kitchen, stylish bathroom and mod-cons like a rainfall shower, espresso machine and Netflix bring things in the 21st-century. We think it's the best of both worlds, and the location is even better.

Ritzy and charming, Mayfair is home to leafy squares, cobbled lanes lined with cafes and some of the oldest shops in London. Fashionistas will enjoy shopping along New Bond Street and Saville Row (a five-minute walk away), art fiends can browse the nearby galleries and auction houses (Phillips Auction House & Gallery is right next door) and foodies will love the bevvy of gourmet eateries nearby. With Bond Street Station only six minutes away on foot, travelling around the rest of the city is easy – perfect if you fancy a bit of sightseeing.
