Inside the home, a vast open plan living area, furnished with timeless furniture and decoration offers a sophisticated space to relax all year round. Whether you visit during the sunny summer's months or in the chill of winter, this home remains a warm, welcoming and tranquil place to retreat to when seeking an escape from the mundane. From the living space, large glass sliding doors invite in plenty of natural daylight from the outside patio – perfect for relaxing amidst the sea air. Fire up the barbecue or chill with a book in hand on the corner sofa, before heading down to the beach to catch the sunset. And if you head upstairs (and stand on tiptoes), you can catch a glimpse of the sea from the attic window – the beach is just 300 metres away after all. After a day on the beach, call into the village to nosey around the local shops and boutiques followed by a bite to eat at one of the local restaurants or cafes. With everything within walking distance, there is little need to travel by car when you don't feel like leaving Caister-on-Sea. But if you do fancy a little drive out, Great Yarmouth is only ten minutes down the road and well worth a visit.

If you're looking for a luxurious, romantic retreat in Norfolk – this newly refurbished cottage could be the place for you. Unwind with a glass of Champagne in the hot tub at the end of the beautiful garden, filled with roses and other cottage garden plants. Later, settle down in the reading corner, next to the log burner, with a good book and a glass of wine from the wine chiller. We adore the vistas over the green and village pond from this cottage – it's the picture-perfect view. As night falls, have a long soak in the free-standing bath with the organic toiletries provided – utter bliss. Your lovely hosts have thought of everything to make your stay comfortable, from bathrobes and slippers to treats for your four-legged friends (if you're bringing the pooch). The next day enjoy breakfast in the light, contemporary glass dining room overlooking the garden. Then, pop over the road for lunch if you don't fancy cooking – one of the top five gastropubs in the area is right opposite. Afterwards, perhaps walk off all that lovely food with a stroll around the village with its pretty duck ponds. For a day at the beach – Old Hunstanton Beach is a thirty-minute drive away – so you can have the best of both coast and country. It doesn't get much more idyllic than this.

With a beautiful walled garden and hot tub, this home is a great place to chill out. There’s plenty of room for lounging, barbecuing and dining here, or you could cook in the beautifully appointed kitchen with its Quooker tap among other kitchen amenities. The living room has that country essential, a log burner, too. We love the bedrooms here – one has French doors that open onto the courtyard front garden, while the other has a Juliet balcony. What about the address? Well, the location is great – this home is situated in Burnham Market, a picturesque, leafy village with plenty of boutiques, while about six miles away lies Wells-next-the-Sea.

Books and board games line the shelves, cushy sofas are perfect for snuggling and a delightful wood burner keeps everything toasty warm on chilly evenings. If you’re looking for a real away-from-it-all retreat that’s truly one of a kind, then look no further than this home on the Norfolk Coast. Featured on Channel 4's Homes by the Sea, it’s located right next to the dunes at Winterton-on-Sea, in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. A former working lighthouse, it’s perfect for a peaceful stay with a surreal fairytale quality. When we visited, we were particularly impressed by the unusual round rooms that stack up on top of one another. Once filled with nautical equipment, these are now well designed spaces with beautiful furniture and objects, including an impressive library, bunk-bed room for kids, living room, and finally a lofty viewing platform bedroom (not for the faint hearted). Down on ground level you’ll find a contemporary open-plan space where you can cook in the shiny stainless steel kitchen or bask in the warmth of the wood burner as you eat dinner in the relaxed dining area. Folding doors give access out into the small garden for picnics or al fresco breakfasts. Families in particular will love the easy access to seaside life, including great fish and chips, good local pubs, parks and boat-trips. The Norfolk Broads is also nearby; the UK's largest wetland area, it's perfect for boating, cycling and walking. In short, this is a great home for those who want to experience everything a Norfolk staycation has to offer, while staying somewhere with real wow factor.

Summer’s evenings are spent in the fragrant country garden drinking Pimms and looking out over meadowland, and in the winter months, the wood burner keeps the cosiness levels running high. You’re just a short drive from North Norfolk’s stunning sandy beaches, and the bustling town of Burnham Market. If you don’t feel like a drive, the surrounding countryside is ripe for walking, and the local pub is just five minutes away.

Perfectly placed, walk to sandy Great Yarmouth Beach in less than twelve minutes and be at Nelson's Monument and the lively town centre in under half an hour. We'd especially recommend a trip to the Merrivale Model Village if you're after a fun family day out – as with most of the popular attractions, it's well within reach here.

Large groups looking to explore the expansive Norfolk landscape will love all that this stunning Georgian home has to offer. Located just a fifteen-minute walk from the charming village of Somerleyton, with its grand hall and traditional pubs, there's plenty to see and do in the area – walking, and cycle paths, boats for hire in St. Olaves. The nearest beach is a quick ten-minute drive away, while the lovely seaside towns of Gorleston and Great Yarmouth are approximately twenty minutes in the car. But we really wouldn't blame you if you stayed put at home. After all, the main house boasts a pool table, a large lounge, an impressive dining room and four elegant bedrooms. On top of that, guests can delight in sweeping views of Waveney Valley. Wander out into the sprawling picturesque garden, and you’ll find a rustic fire pit and wood-burning hot tub to pass the time in. There’s also a delightful shepherd's hut where two additional guests can stay, providing an intimate space to enjoy a little more peace, quiet and privacy close to nature. Reconnect with the countryside at this lovely retreat and explore the Norfolk Broads and Suffolk Heritage Coast.

This baby blue timber lodge is just as cute on the inside as it is on the outside. As well as having all the essentials for a romantic getaway, there are house plants, colourful pieces of artwork and a turquoise accent wall to give the place a bit of character without overdoing it — one of the hosts is an interior designer, can't you tell? Out through the glass door, there's a large garden with a cosy seating area at the far end and plenty of potted plants dotted about. You'll find that there's a real sense of peace here. The local village of Banningham is small — albeit with a well-recommended gastropub — and there are plenty of outdoor excursions to fill your days with nearby. The birthplace of Anne Boleyn, Blickling Estate, takes ten minutes to reach in the car, while Cromer Beach is a seventeen-minute drive away, too.

Balancing mod-con comforts with bucolic interiors, we wouldn’t blame you if you never left this cosy home. Inside, guests will find plenty of soft furnishings, chic decor, uplifting pops of colour and a vintage vinyl player, creating a sociable and playful living space to enjoy each other's company. You'll also notice the calming green views over the village pond and rolling hills throughout the home. Beckoning you to the great outdoors, step into the large back garden – complete with an alfresco dining table, an expansive lawn and a variety of lush plants. If you’re travelling with children, they’ll be particularly delighted by the village playground and the feeding of the ducks in the pond. But the real highlight of this home is the luxury spa area with a bubbling hot tub and steam shower for the ultimate rest and relaxation. If you can peel yourself away from the tub, and decide to explore the beautiful natural surroundings, there are plenty of lovely county walks and footpaths nearby. Plus, you're less a forty-five-minute drive from the Norfolk Coast and its sandy beaches as well as the Royal Sandringham Estate, King's Lynn and plenty of other hidden gems.

On arrival at the idyllic Holkham Estate on the North Norfolk coast, you’ll feel like you’ve walked right onto the set of Downton Abbey. You’ll find this charming gatehouse from the mid-1800s on the southern fringes of the estate. Its style is simple and elegant, which lets the gorgeous countryside on the other side of the decorative lead windows do all the talking. Touches such as the log burner in the living room and a winged velvet sofa keep things cosy and faithful to the home’s character. There’s plenty of hiking and cycling to enjoy on the estate, not to mention checking out the grand main house, one of the UK's most spectacular country piles. But our top tip is the windswept Holkham Beach – an unspoilt stretch of coast where Gwyneth Paltrow walked through the sand in the last scene of Shakespeare in Love.

Behind The Gate

Looking at this modern home, set in the rural countryside of Norfolk, you might not be fully convinced of its former life as a dilapidated cattle farm, but the clues are there if you know where to look. The wooden beams, for one, add plenty of character and warmth, and so does the exposed brick.

The other benefit of it having been a farm, is that there is acreage for days. In almost every direction you look, you’ll be met with untamed flora to make mornings seated out front with a fresh coffee the sort of peaceful affair you need to fully unwind. On balmier days, spend time out barbecuing, a local cider in hand, or if that seems like too much effort, open the bifold doors and let the breeze into the living area where we hope you’ll be plopped on the sofa with a good book.

Between this gorgeous space – inside and out – and the hot tub, you might not have time for much else, but don’t let the quintessential pub visit stay on the bucket list. Besides, there’s nothing like a fish and chip lunch after a visit to one of the sandy beaches.

Nestled on the grounds of the Cromer Country Club, guests lucky enough to stay here can enjoy the peace and quiet, and excellent amenities. Make use of the swimming pool, the spa, and gym facilities, or enjoy a day at the next-door Royal Cromer Golf Club. More importantly, you’ll be staying just moments from the sea. That means fishing, crabbing, swimming, boating and more are all available to guests who come here for a little bit of fresh sea air. Step into the home and you’ll find a balance of coastal-inspired and modern furnishings. This family-friendly home also provides guests with highchairs, baby gates, and a travel cot to ensure everyone can relax on this trip. Split across two levels, the upstairs bedrooms benefit from picturesque sea views, while the home’s backyard is perfect for lawn games, dining al fresco, and basking in the sunshine. Also included in your stay is access to a games room and an indoor play area - perfect for some family fun away from home.

Tide Pool Cottage

What a prime location this stylish cottage has – it's right in the centre of Wells-next-the-Sea. You'll find a mix of pubs, cafes, restaurants and independent shops to browse right on your doorstep. Or head to Holkham Beach (just over a twelve-minute drive away), where you may see the Household Cavalry riding their horses across the sands. It's just a twenty-minute stroll to Wells-next-the-Sea, too, with its pretty beach huts. After exploring all this town and the Norfolk coast offers, relax by the wood-burning stove (a starter pack of logs is provided in the colder months) or enjoy a coffee in the cute courtyard on warm days. Your lovely host has done a fantastic job sympathetically updating this place whilst retaining its original charm. When you're ready for a bit of rest, climb the traditional Norfolk winder stairs to the characterful and comfy bedrooms, before starting another exciting day of Norfolk adventures. This home is perfect for families, couples and friends who want to enjoy the great outdoors all year round.

Redshank

Quaint and cosy, this old shoemaker's cottage in the heart of Cromer is a perfect seaside retreat for two. It's just a two-minute walk from Cromer Beach and the Victorian pier, making it a top-notch spot for couples to unwind. 

Inside, the home hasn't lost any of its traditional charm, thanks to the wooden floors, timber beams and vintage furniture. Lighthouses and wooden shoes line the shelves, paying homage to the cottage’s excellent seaside location as well as its history. The living room is warm and comfortable — on chilly nights, snuggle in front of the electric fire with a good book and a glass of wine. While the kitchen is on the smaller side, it still has everything you need to whip up a quick breakfast or light lunch. 

When it's time for dinner, we recommend grabbing a bite to eat at one of the fabulous restaurants, delis, and cafés in town, then finishing off the evening with a nightcap at the pub across the road.

Wooden Shoes

Grab your bucket and spades and hit the Norfolk coast at this modern, family home just a ten-minute stroll from the beach. Located in the charming seaside village of Caister-on-Sea, just north of Great Yarmouth, it's the village's endless sandy beach that's the biggest draw, and rightly so. An ideal starting point for inspiring coastal walks to Hemsby, Winterton, or Great Yarmouth; there's plenty of Norfolk's expansive coastlines to discover from here. Or for a spot of culture, head to Caister's 15th-century old castle (five-minute drive away) - now home to a royal range of vintage cars. When tummies start to rumble, there are pubs for hearty grub within walking distance and, of course, an obligatory fish and chip shop. Or head home for a barbecue in your private enclosed garden, where kids and dogs can roam free with sandy toes. Inside, this home is perfectly set up for an easy family holiday. Upstairs there are smart, clutter-free spaces, including a nursery room with a cot ready to go. Downstairs, the large breakfast bar in the kitchen is a fantastic spot to all come together to rustle up breakfast and hatch plans for a day exploring. Although with that glorious beach just a stroll away, we wouldn't blame you if you stayed precisely where you are.

Castles Made of Sand

Part of a striking period building close to the centre of this buzzing seaside town, the home is modern, spacious and effortlessly cool. Once a post office, this building still retains features like its impressive windows and partially tiled, loft-style walls. But the real showstopper is the incredible vaulted ceiling, with exposed metal struts and a clever mezzanine level above the open-plan living space. Here you and your group can spread out on the comfy sofa, cook meals while chatting over the unique breakfast bar and eat at the industrial dining table. And we absolutely love the vast master bedroom up in the eaves. Surrounded by steel girders and with its own lounge area and bathroom, it's a luxurious and quirky place to sleep. Here you'll be just a ten-minute walk from the seafront and beach, with all sorts of attractions, shops and restaurants right outside your door.

Heavy Metal

Dating back as far as the 1470s when Sir James Hobart (a confidante of Henry VII) built a family estate, This home is one of the most spectacular places we’ve ever seen and truly perfect for family gatherings, breaks away with friends, weddings, and more. Step into history oozing with the finest luxury afforded to the home's guests, including ample space as, on top of the main hall, there’s also the Gatehouse, the Cottage, and the Garden Rooms, as well a separate barn for hosting events, and of course the grounds. The history of this home has been preserved immaculately, while at the same time, modern comforts are around every corner. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

The facilities available at the hall are second to none, with no need or whim uncatered for, including perfectly equipped kitchens, games room, library, a wealth of entertainment, cosy open fires and woodburners, lawns and meadows, and even a moat, and should you wish to prize yourself away from this phenomenal home and head on out to explore, the bustling seaside town of Great Yarmouth is just a twenty-seven-minute drive away, while the Norwich city centre can be reached in twenty-two minutes by car, and is perfect for those shopping needs. We highly recommend trying out the cosy pubs around the area for a good pint and perfect company.

The Hobart Spring Estate

Perched on the edge of Blickling Hall Estate and fringing the chocolate-box village of Oulton, the setting for this adult-only hideaway is dreamy. All the cottagecore essentials are ticked off with original beams, a wood-burning stove, and a pretty, south-facing garden to call your own. Although it’s worth noting the home’s low beams and restricted head height might not suit the vertically blessed. With no amenities within walking distance, you’ll need a car here. Head to Holt for a dose of sea air (a twenty-minute drive). Or, closer to home, nearby Aylsham for a taste of market town life.

Driftwood Garden

This cosy barn sits on the edge of the Norfolk Broads, where it offers the ideal setting for a relaxing group getaway. Inside, you’ll find plenty of socialising space across the kitchen and living room. There is also a mezzanine snug with a handy desk for remote workers, plus two of the bedrooms can be arranged as doubles or singles to accommodate flexible sleeping arrangements. Outside, there is a peaceful garden with a barbecue and plenty to explore. From here, it’s just a short drive to the village of Acle while the North Norfolk Coast is just 30 miles away. 


Beloved Barn

With sweeping views over Norfolk’s iconic salt marshes and out to sea, this home is a retreat in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The large house is a brilliant base to explore this stretch of coast - birdwatchers will want to decamp to RSPB Titchwell Marsh or Holme Dunes, walkers have got miles of coastal path to stomp, while sunnier days are best spent playing on the sand on Brancaster Beach. If the weather isn’t playing ball, the sea is still all around - dinners in the dining room are set to a backdrop of the coast, while the garden has a BBQ when alfresco eating is possible. It’s only a short walk into the village of Thornham, which has several renowned restaurants, as well as a deli to stock up on local goodies.

Salt Marsh View

There are too many good things about The Hobart Spring to list, but suffice to say that it’s every bit as good as it looks. Most of the buildings date to the 1470s, when Sir James Hobart (later attorney general to the king) built his family home. Our favourite room (not an easy decision) is the kitchen, which looks beautifully traditional, but alongside the Aga, has an electric oven, gas hob, espresso machine and more. You can also pick herbs from the raised beds in the back. Either as a gateway to the Broads, or as a destination in itself, you can’t go wrong.

The Hobart Spring

Set amongst two acres of private gardens at the end of a quiet country lane, this beautiful barn offers style and comfort for larger groups. Dating back to the fifteenth century, your hosts have lovingly renovated the entire home with contemporary design elements while retaining much of its original character. Flint feature walls, exposed trusses and double-height ceilings are enhanced by glass walls and elegant hardwood floors for a holiday home that brings modern living to an effortlessly elegant setting. Set across three floors, there’s plenty of space for guests to spread out. Play a few tunes on the grand piano, escape to the spacious garden for a peaceful moment, watch a film in the entertainment room and dine alfresco on the veranda. You can play boules, croquet and table tennis, and there's a tennis court available at neighbouring Hindringham Hall. In the summer, enjoy your pick of seasonal bounty from the fruit and vegetable gardens, and ensure you take the half-hour drive down to Holkham Beach.

A rural retreat with an almost embarrassing amount of charm, this thatched home dates back centuries and represents the best of Norfolk's architectural style. Carefully modernised and curated with stylish wall colours, art and a mix of antique and contemporary furniture, it's a fabulous space to unwind in unique surroundings. As well as a stunning historic home, it boasts a large, enclosed garden and a summer house to die for.  

Inside, the stripped-back, authentic character of this place is evident in the ancient beams, brick floors and inglenook fireplace. A comfy velvet sofa provides a modern twist but otherwise, the living room is dressed like it would have been a hundred years ago or so. Elsewhere there's a delightful country kitchen, a casual dining room and a midnight-blue TV room, along with a useful utility room and three gorgeous bedrooms.

And outside you'll find pretty gardens, along with a greenhouse and a deck for enjoying the sun. Step inside the summer house for the biggest surprise though. A lovely space for friends and family to socialise and eat together, it comes with a Scandinavian-style indoor barbecue cabin. 

Around half an hour's drive from both Diss and Norwich, you'll be deep in the country here so a car is essential, but there are great walks to be had nearby and the coast is around forty-five minutes away. Visit Southwold, Lowestoft and more for days out by the sea.

A hidden gem on a pretty countryside lane in the village of Neatishead, this cosy lodge is perfect for peaceful couple retreats or solo getaways. With incredible views across the spacious garden throughout this home, what could be a better way to start your day than to wake up to green vistas before taking your morning cuppa alfresco to the outdoor table on the patio?

The best way to experience the Norfolk Broads is by boat, and the ‘Capital of the Norfolk Broads’ Wroxham – where you can hire a boat or take a tour up the river – is a short eleven-minute drive from your door here. So, roam up the river and admire the views before you stop for lunch at one of the restaurants, pubs or cafes, many of which even offer riverside seating. 

The village of Neatishead itself is also a quiet and unspoilt area of Norfolk, with its own pub, village shop and swim barn – a pool which you can book online. Plus, there are plenty of country lanes that make great places for walking or cycling. 

In the evening, when the weather allows it, we would love nothing more than to dine alfresco in the garden at this home. Then, snuggle up inside with a good book or play a board game together.

An interesting fact about this former stable block is that in the same year it was completed — 1881 — the architect behind the design, Alfred Waterhouse, also finished work on the National History Museum. Admittedly, this building in the Norfolk village of Crimplesham is slightly less spectacular than the London museum, but there are still double-height ceilings and a large staircase upon entrance for a touch of grandeur. There have been a lot of changes in the interior since the late nineteenth century, but the wholesale modernisation feels in keeping with the country location, especially in the large wood-panelled kitchen, the comfy living room complete with a roaring fireplace and the games room that's accessible through a secret bookcase. There's an enclosed garden with alfresco seating and a barbecue, but there's plenty more to see and do outside in the local area. The historical town of Ely takes just under half an hour to reach in the car, while the coast at Hunstanton can be reached in forty minutes' drive. Closer to home, the quaint town of Downham Market is an hour away on foot.

Explore the town of Cromer, which used to be known as an old fishing town and still features buildings dating back to the Victorian era. Then, in the evening head back to the house and fire up the barbecue for that British summer outdoor dining experience. Once the children are in bed, unwind in the hot tub with a refreshing glass of wine. Or, on chilly nights, curl up on the living room sofa in front of the wood burner fireplace.

Is there anything more quintessentially British than staying in a converted pub? We don't think so. Dating back to 1715, this Grade 2 listed ale house in the North Norfolk town of Holt is a delightful escape. Recently refurbished, the owners have taken great care to restore the original wooden beams, brickwork and fireplaces. We love the bedrooms, all named after teas. After a busy day, there’s nothing better than relaxing in front of the wood burner with some fish and chips from across the road. And of course, pour yourself a pint. You're in a former pub after all.

Surrounded by bustling bars, cafés and shops, you'll have plenty to do in the area. Spend the day strolling through the village – we recommend browsing the local art galleries or having a spot of afternoon tea at one of the many tearooms (there's a charming one right next door). If you're longing for sea and sand, drive fifteen minutes and you'll reach Sheringham Beach and the Norfolk Coast.
