Back home, this three-storey, newly renovated Victorian townhouse is immaculately presented throughout. Kick off your sandy shoes in the inviting entrance hall and make your way into the vast living spaces. While your nominated chef rustles up dinner in that made-for-action kitchen, kids will be kept busy in the dedicated playroom right next door, complete with a flat-screen TV, PlayStation 4, and books aplenty. Then all retreat into the cosy separate sitting room to hunker down for film nights or keep the night flowing with board games around the dining table – there's room for everyone.

Just a nine-minute walk from Whitby’s sandy beach, this bright, modern apartment feels as fresh and as dazzling as the sea that’s just a stone’s throw away. With two comfortable bedrooms that will ease you into a peaceful night’s sleep as well, there’s no end to the relaxation in store here. Outside of your home, you’re just a twenty-minute walk from the 199 Steps leading up to Whitby Abbey, a fifteen-minute stroll from the Whitby Whale Watching cruise dock, while countless seafood restaurants, boutiques and bars wait to be discovered right outside your door.

With the centre of Whitby on your doorstep – this stylish apartment is a great find. If you love history, head to the Captain Cook Memorial Museum, a six-minute stroll. It's the same walking distance to Whitby Beach, while the ruined Whitby Abbey, which inspired Bram Stoker's gothic novel 'Dracula', is under fifteen minutes on foot. You'll find an abundance of pubs, restaurants and cafes on your doorstep too. Or, further afield, explore Dalby Forest, located on the southern slopes of the North York Moors National Park, just over a thirty-minute drive from this home.

After all that sightseeing, relax on the comfy sofa in the bay window and read a book or unwind with a coffee. A range of plants and contemporary art prints give this place a homely feel – we certainly felt at home when we visited. We love the use of colour here, from the forest green kitchen to the sunny yellow, midcentury-style armchair. This place is the perfect Yorkshire retreat for a couple looking to have easy access to all of Whitby's delights.

Soak up all the charms of Whitby – the oh-so-pretty Yorkshire seaside town – with a stay at this elegant apartment just four-minute from the vast, sandy beach. Housed in a period property in the town's genteel Victorian suburb, the apartment is bathed in natural light thanks to the original sash windows throughout the home. Immaculately presented, you'll love the cosy living space and modern kitchen made for action for rustling up a bite to eat.  Or you could keep things simple and mosey down to Whitby's bustling bars and restaurants just one street away, where you'll find everything from kippers, fish and chips, and fresh crab sandwiches to Michelin-starred gastropubs. And no visit to this seaside town would be complete without a promenade along the seafront and pier with ice cream. Whitby is no ordinary seaside destination. Since Victorian times, it’s been as famous for its long, sandy beach as for its Gothic charms (its ruined Abbey is said to be the inspiration for the novel Dracula). Throw in a local golf course, plenty of museums and boutique shops for wet days, and fish and chips that are regularly voted the best in the country and you’ve got all the ingredients for a fun-packed coastal trip. Try Trenchers, Hadley’s, or The Magpie Cafe for the fish and chips - all award-winning restaurants. The beach and sea are a ten-minute walk away, and within a ten-minute drive, you can be surrounded by the North York Moors countryside for an idyllic day trip. 

Enjoy all this from a period cottage with beautifully-quaint character. For a real touch of luxury and gothic glamour, the master bedroom has an elegant four-poster bed and the roof-top terrace is perfect for alfresco dining on sunny days. On colder ones, enjoy the warm wooden interior, complete with a wood-burner for toasty evenings inside. 

Fish, Chips And Vampires

Thanks to its prime coastline location and eclectic history, Whitby has been drawing in tourists for hundreds of years and if you're tempted to pay a visit, this home is a great base from which to explore the Yorkshire town.

Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. There's also a private balcony just off the kitchen in case you fancy starting the day with coffee and the sun on your skin – can't we be optimistic?

There's also a lot to like about the interiors, too. The design in the living room is a quirky mix of vintage and contemporary, as seen with the tan leather sofas sitting underneath a grand chandelier. You'll find the kitchen to be decently enough sized for bouts of home cooking and there are no complaints about the minimalist bedrooms, either.

So, what's there to do nearby? Well, quite a lot as it happens. West Cliff Beach and the promenade are about five minutes' walk from the front door, while the famed Whitby Abbey and 199 steps are just over twenty minutes away on foot, crossing the River Esk in the process.

It may have literary associations with a certain Count Dracula, but you won't find any vampires roaming the streets of Whitby. Instead, it's a charming and memorable seaside town with more than a few fans who return year after year.
