The house itself is warm and welcoming, with heaps of space. It’s an excellent choice for a big group of friends or a couple of families travelling together, as there’s plenty of room for everyone. We love the balcony that opens out from the living room – it boasts gorgeous views of Whitby and its harbour, and is the perfect spot for a morning cuppa. Later on in the day, you might pick up takeaway fish and chips to unwrap on one of the picnic tables on the terrace. It’s a lovely way to round off a day at the seaside.

Rather ironically, it's what lies outside that makes this apartment special – gaze out through the windows and you're treated to a sublime view of the North Sea. There's also a private balcony just off the kitchen in case you fancy starting the day with coffee and the sun on your skin – can't we be optimistic?

There's also a lot to like about the interiors, too. The design in the living room is a quirky mix of vintage and contemporary, as seen with the tan leather sofas sitting underneath a grand chandelier. You'll find the kitchen to be decently enough sized for bouts of home cooking and there are no complaints about the minimalist bedrooms, either.

So, what's there to do nearby? Well, quite a lot as it happens. West Cliff Beach and the promenade are about five minutes' walk from the front door, while the famed Whitby Abbey and 199 steps are just over twenty minutes away on foot, crossing the River Esk in the process.

Just as the seemingly limitless panorama of sky and sea on North Yorkshire's coastline feels bright and invigorating, so too does the interior of this home found close to the River Esk. We particularly loved the snug on the second floor, too – an excellent hideaway to curl up with a book and enjoy some downtime after a busy day exploring the town.

Even the ancient Whitby Abbey is reachable on foot in twenty minutes, where you'll be able to admire the stunning Gothic architecture.

The open-plan living area is sociable and smart, with comfortable sofas, a big dining table and a well kitted-out kitchen. Quirky wall art and decorative pieces give the place some added character and we love the little seating areas in each window. On the south side of the harbour, you'll be just a five-minute walk from the '199 Steps' which take you up to the scenic ruins of Whitby Abbey.
