This contemporary home was designed as a lookout to admire the meandering Tamar Estuary. As you enter the home, The front door leads directly into the open-plan living room with oak flooring and full height sliding doors leading out onto a south-east facing balcony framing the panoramic waterfront views. With the waterfront vistas stretching through to the bedrooms too, it couldn't be easier to stretch out, unplug and relax away from the daily grind of working life. Boat lovers are in for a treat, as you can access the river via the private pontoon and explore the Cornish coastline without having to head to a port. With direct water access onto the estuary for about three hours on either side of high tide, enjoy canoeing or crabbing directly from the private pontoon. This, coupled with the dingy slipway offers the perfect waterfront lifestyle. The Peninsula is dotted with pretty fishing villages and unspoilt beaches, which provide excellent seaside adventures. Sitting in the middle of a thirty-acre farm in the Tamar Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, this barn conversion is a fittingly impressive home for such an idyllic location. 

There are plenty of spots from which you can gaze out at the pretty meadows, woodland and the banks of the River Tamar that surround the address, whether that's out through the floor-to-ceiling windows that line the main living space or while seated on the roof terrace bordered by a leafy pergola. However, the home's interior is well worth your attention, too. Certain features have been retained from the building's industrious past, including wooden ceiling beams and exposed stonework, but otherwise, the design is bright and contemporary.

The number of amenities available to guests distinguishes this home from the pack. Not only is there a homely wood-burning stove in the main space, but there's a games room with a ping-pong table and darts board in a section that was once a cattle shed, plus lots of equipment for outdoor games beside the forecourt and lawned area. Here you will find tables, benches and additional seating for your exclusive use and space to stoke up barbecues and challenge the group to a variety of games.

Elsewhere on the site, there are the ruins of a silver and lead mine accompanied by the pumping engine house and smithy, part of the industrial landscape recognised as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. There are other footpaths that lead off into the countryside, but you can also stroll down to the banks of the River Tamar, on which there's a two-hour window every day when it's safe to use it for water sports.

It's clear that converting this traditional, award-winning stone barn into a luxury home has been a labour of love. The open plan living space is the home's beating heart, dominated by beautifully restored original wooden beams that run along the vaulted ceiling, a lick of sophisticated red paint and a charming wood burner. We love the hot tub in the pretty garden – it’s the perfect place to unwind. The great outdoors is the real draw here. The home makes up part of a former Duchy of Cornwall daffodil farm – nowadays, chickens and ducks roam the grounds freely – and there are even Highland cows too. Set in an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – there are fantastic local walks (maps and wellies provided) on your doorstep. You can enjoy the amenities of the farm, too, including a tennis court, an orchard with a hammock, basketball hoop, woodland, and a private shingle beach right on the river – there are forty acres to explore in total. There's certainly plenty to keep you occupied here –  your hosts are Cornwall Wildlife Trust Members, which affords you access to wildlife education sessions for children, including mini-beast safaris, rock pooling events, and bird box making. You can also book a foraging workshop, stand-up paddleboarding, wine tasting, spa treatments, afternoon teas, suppers and more.

In a quiet village in Devon, this cottage is all about kicking back and escaping to the countryside. There’s a cosy village pub within easy walking distance and the neighbouring village of Buckland Abbey is home to a beautiful, centuries-old abbey to explore. For a day in the buzzing coastal city of Plymouth, it’s just a half-hour drive.

The cottage was fully renovated in 2018, keeping that countryside idyll feel throughout. We love the outside space – the babbling stream running through the garden provides a peaceful soundtrack and a private hot tub for a soothing soak at the end of the day. There’s seating for drinks and dining on the patio and a pretty little summer house should the weather turn.

Inside, the black wood beams against the white ceiling are striking and homely at the same time. Slate floors and exposed stonework create an 18th-century cottage feel and there’s a traditional cast-iron wood-burner in the centre of the living room. Bedrooms are cosy yet sunny, with French doors letting the sunlight stream in. Plus, there’s a free-standing tub in the main bathroom which begs for a long soak with a glass of something bubbly.

We enter via the games room and utility area on the ground floor, where you'll find a pool table and – as odd as it may sound – a dog shower. Perfect for washing the sand from your furry friend, it's a unique feature we think could make all the difference to your stay. There's a ground floor bedroom and bathroom – perfect if some guests prefer a little more privacy – and stairs lead up to the large kitchen and impressive living room. Here you can enjoy panoramic views of the coastline and access both a small balcony and a side terrace with an outdoor dining table. It also happens to house a private hot tub with sea views.

The two remaining bedrooms and bathrooms are on the top floor and it's here you'll find our favourite room. The main bedroom is simply stunning, with a private balcony and a large en-suite bathroom with a glass wall so that, from the raised bathtub, you can not only see the TV but also out through the patio doors to the sea. 

Perfect for a group of friends or a family here to relax on the beach, it's only a short walk to the Whitsand Bay Golf Course, and a cute café, with plenty of big attractions within a short drive.
