The quintessential rural stay awaits at this stone barn conversion, sitting pretty in the rolling hills of the Cotswolds. Come for life on the farm, stay for bright and breezy open-plan living. Although this apartment is on the second floor of the barn, it truly feels like a charming country cottage, the type you might come across after hours exploring enchanted woods. That might be down to the oak beams in the ceiling, or the open-plan living area's wooden floors and simple necessities. We think it's a dream stay for young families in particular. The barn itself is surrounded by pigs, chicken, and other animals, with an Iron Age hillfort to explore on walks around the grounds. There's something mesmerising about getting up close with the animals – it's easy to spend hours out here, especially if you have little ones. You can fire up a barbecue, shared with the other homes on-site, for an alfresco feast. Or live like a local, and visit the pubs and restaurants of nearby Chipping Sodbury.

We're completely hung up on this home in the Cotswolds, a dreamy apartment that's part of a stunning converted barn. Even arriving here has an ethereal charm, driving past miles of rolling green fields to a home that's a true countryside escape. Opening the front door, what first enamoured us were the high ceilings and French doors – the natural light of the farm outside hits every pocket of the living areas. But this home is more than just its light. It's a mix of rustic cottage and manor house in one, where grand stone fireplaces meet ridiculously comfy armchairs. Upstairs the bedroom is stunning and ornate, its large wooden bed living under vaulted ceilings and hugged by baby blue walls. As part of a working farm, the soundtrack to your stay is the cluck of hens and baa of sheep. Immerse yourself in life here, and you'll likely leave an aspiring farmer.

Consider this grand mansion house, whose nine bedrooms - plus special highlights like juke box, maze, large terrace and extensive parklands - make it quite the place for a gathering of family or friends. The grade II-listed Regency building has no less than five indoor living spaces including a banquet-worthy dining room, which seats up to 20, a library packed with books, and sitting room with open fire and plenty of overstuffed chairs and sofas. The surroundings are impressive, part of the 28-acre Matara Estate, where rewilding projects and formal gardens have been in progress for the past 20 years. A private tour can be arranged – just ask the caretaker on your arrival. If you can manage your way out of all that (or even want to) you’ll find yourself in a charming part of the Cotswolds - with Stroud, Tetbury and Westonbirt’s National Arbotoreum nearby and Jane Austen’s beloved Bath just a 35-minute drive away.

Inside, you’ll be welcomed by plenty of character and a range of home comforts – including two wood-burning stoves, a foosball table and a Japanese soaking bath. There is also a garden with a barbecue and plenty of space for families to stretch out and socialise. Private parking is available and you’ll find lots to explore in the surroundings – from here it’s a short drive to the Cotswold Way, Tetbury and Stroud.

Enjoy a stately visit to this grand home in the southern Cotswolds. With six bedrooms, Grindstone can accommodate up to twelve guests and welcomes those to enjoy the lavish interiors, manicured gardens and untouched countryside with views of the old mill from the backyard. Boasting two reception rooms with fireplaces, an open-plan kitchen and a small study, an extended family would surely benefit from this large space in such an idyllic setting. Although you'll be able to enjoy total privacy here, you're just six miles from Badminton, ten miles from Highgrove and twenty miles from Bath and Bristol, giving you the chance to get in on the action, should you ever need it.

Lovingly restored by your attentive hosts, these three connected barns have been designed with your needs in mind. They have gone the extra mile to retain centuries-old features, including exposed stone walls and a gargoyle in the master bedroom, while introducing modern amenities that sit seamlessly within the space, creating a super chic country getaway. The open-plan ground floor is kitted out with a long dining table that makes for sociable evenings feasting on food prepared in the fully equipped kitchen. After dinner, grab a seat on the comfy sofa and settle in by the wood burner for the ultimate cosy evening. Climb the custom staircase up to the two double en-suite bedrooms (the twin is on the ground floor) with their unique wetroom style showers that are open to the room (so you better know your roommate pretty well). Wander down the track to Dyrham Park, one of the Cotswold's most stunning National Trust properties. Fans of the Poldark and Sanditon series, as well as the 1993 film Remains of the Day, might recognise this fabulous late seventeenth-century mansion and manicured gardens. Elsewhere, you're a little under ten miles from Bath, where you can take in the heritage atmosphere and grand Georgian architecture of one of the UK's most picturesque cities.

Deep within the Somerset countryside — halfway between Bristol and Bath — lies this pair of converted barns that will provide the most bucolic of countryside getaways. The first has been redesigned to be the living quarters with a whitewashed interior, orbicular hanging lights and a huge collection of house plants — not to mention a wood-burning stove for chillier evenings. Walk out through the huge glass doors and you'll see the second barn, which holds the en-suite bedrooms. The space in between these two buildings has been lovingly tended to, too. Out here, you'll find a stone hot tub built into the lawn, as well as two separate seating areas surrounded by plant beds where you can relax amid dappled Somerset sunshine. On warm days, head out for a walk in the neighbouring valley, which has a private arboretum to visit. It takes just over an hour to reach the top of Kelston Round Hill, which offers sweeping views. Alternatively, you can drive to the centre of Bath in under half an hour.

With breathtaking panoramas from every vantage point, this home is a gem. You'll be able to enjoy the views from the private hot tub and garden – although our favourite is the glimpses of the River Severn and Old Severn Bridge from the main bedroom. There’s the all-important log burner for when the weather gets chillier, too. This home is set on a working dairy farm, and your host is happy to give you a tour of the farm – something the kids will probably adore. Just bear in mind, at certain times of the year, the farm can be busy. When you feel like exploring a little further afield, you can visit Chepstow Castle or Lydney in the Forest of Dean.

You’ll need to take care around the open water in the garden – but it’s the river and waterfall that make this home so unique. There are plenty of hiking routes nearby to keep you entertained - well, you'll want to do a little bit of exercise so you can reward yourself with a well-deserved soak in the luxurious bathtub, won't you? With the nearby town of Chipping Sodbury just a six-minute drive away and both Bristol and Bath less than 30 minutes away, this Cotswolds gem is the perfect romantic getaway.

Situated in the small village of Bitton, this family home is a peaceful retreat in the countryside.
