Once a traditional cottage, this home has been renovated into a grand space featuring an impressive modern extension with glass walls and chic interiors. Step through the bi-fold doors onto the sunny deck and Mediterranean-style garden and enjoy evenings gathered around the rustic fire pit. There's also a rear garden with a lush lawn, perfect for outdoor games and fun. Inside, there's plenty of room for your family or friends to spread out in the huge, light-filled, open plan living space – it's perfect for socialising. We love the sea views from the bedrooms too.

You and your guests will be staying in the picturesque village of Walberswick. Spend your morning on the beach just over 300 yards from this home, then grab a bite to eat at the pub 50 yards away, or make your way to Southwold just across the river for a wider selection of restaurants and shops. You can take the small ferry boat to Southwold (summer season only) or there is the footbridge to take you across. This home's proximity to the sea makes it an excellent choice for a seaside getaway.

This Georgian cottage brings all the genteel charm to match its picturesque Suffolk setting. Dating back to 1740, exposed timbers, cast iron fireplaces, and an original winder staircase show the bones of its past. Whilst chic all-white interiors, clean uncluttered spaces, and beautifully modernised bathrooms keep things fresh and current. A home to enjoy whatever the season – there’s a cosy lounge and open fire for winter months, and a pretty and secluded courtyard garden complete with a barbecue for making the most of sunnier days. With everything on your doorstep, you’ll find there’s no need for a car. Grab your bucket and shades and take a stroll down to Southwold Beach with its beach-lined promenade and pier, all just five minutes on foot – stopping off at the local bakery for picnic supplies first. And when tummies start to rumble, there’s fish and chips aplenty and many a local pub all within walking distance on the high street. With sands, sea and glorious surroundings, this is the British seaside at its best.

Postcard From Southwold

The coastal village of Southwold, like most English seaside towns, has a splendid mix of quaint shops, rustic pubs, and chippies. A twelve-minute walk from its traditional pier, and fourteen from the boating lake, this cottage is a perfect base for exploring the local delights. As you enter through the red brick archway, stepping inside the home is like being transported to old England. You’ll immediately feel a warm welcome for the original wooden beams and fireplace in the lounge. With muted colours throughout, it’s a calming space for a country retreat. White walls bring a fresh and modern feel, with some quirky features like a funky chandelier in the master bedroom. Outside, we love the idea of sitting out in sun on the peaceful patio, with a cup of tea and a novel. And to pique the interest of literature fans, Southwold is a former stomping ground of George Orwell. A far cry from the urban dystopias of some novels, the fictional town from 'A Clergyman’s Daughter' is based on this very village. See if you can find the Orwell plaque in town (hint: follow the smell of fish and chips).

The picturesque village of Southwold sits on The Suffolk Coast and Heaths, one of only forty-six regions in the country officially labelled an ‘Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty’. We think the best way to discover this exceptionally beautiful landscape, is to stay in an exceptionally beautiful home. On a street of candy-colored cottages, an eight-minute walk from Southwold Pier, your home is painted in a dreamy pale blue, with terracotta roof tiles, and a cute white door beckoning you inside. Built in 1850, you’ll love the original features like exposed wooden beams, a winding staircase, and wood-burning fireplace in the lounge. We think this is the perfect spot to settle down on the sofa, crack open a bottle of fizz, and say cheers to the start of your holiday. Another option would be sipping champagne in the luxurious freestanding tub, or taking celebrations out to your private patio on a sunny afternoon. When you get peckish, take a wander to your nearest chippie, three minutes away. Protect your portion of fish and chips from the seagulls as you stroll one minute down to the promenade and take in the fresh air from the North Sea.

There are all sorts of shops to hand here, including a great deli, a bakery, a local bookstore, old-world pubs and Adnams Brewery, to name a few. Stroll along the promenade – just five minutes away – and take in the sea views. Keep a lookout for Southwold's most famous landmarks, the pier and the lighthouse, as you dip your toes in the sea or sprawl out on the sand. 

The options for seaside fun are endless, but when you've had your fill for the day, come home and relax in this minimalist cottage. The courtyard is an excellent spot to soak up the last of the day's rays, or just lounge on the sofa with a glass of wine in the living room. Rustle up dinner in the glossy kitchen and gather for a family meal around the dining table – or, if you're not in the mood to cook, grab some fish and chips from the award-winning shops nearby. End the evening with a movie night before climbing into the comfortable beds for some well-deserved shut-eye.

Between cosy nights by the fire and days spent lounging on Southwold beach, this cottage is an excellent way to explore the Suffolk coast at any time of the year. The house has an open-plan kitchen-living-dining area, so sociable evenings with friends or family are a guarantee – and the kitchen has everything you’ll need to cook for the group. Upstairs, the cosy bedrooms, two of which are king-sized, are perfect for crashing out after a day spent walking the nearby nature reserves. Southwold village is less than five minutes away on foot – here you can peer into independent boutiques, stock up at the deli or indulge your inner beer connoisseur at Adnams Brewery. On sunny days, nab a perch on Southwold beach and wander over to the iconic pier. The neighbouring villages and towns are also excellent day trips – Walberswick to the south is excellent for fish and chips while further down, Thorpeness has a Peter Pan-inspired boating lake.

Inside, the home is well-equipped with a modern kitchen and a gas fireplace in the sitting room for warm, cosy nights throughout the year. The master bedroom faces east, and the view from its large window is magical. Just imagine waking up to the sound of the waves lapping on the shore, the gulls calling, and the sight of the sparkling sea. Well, happily, you don't have to simply imagine it.

Whitewashed walls and soft coastal tones offer the feel of a calming seaside retreat while large skylights and floor-to-ceiling doors opening up to the garden let an abundance of light into the open-plan living and dining area. Contemporary furnishings with a nod to quintessential English style make each room warm and inviting and plenty of storage provides extra convenience for long stays. There’s plenty to see and do within a short walk or drive from the home including a weekly market, great local pubs, boutiques and fish and chip shops and fun day trips can be spent roaming through the nearby Suffolk Coast and Heath AONB, hopping on the foot ferry to the dunes at Walberswick, venturing further inland for a hike or exploring the diverse surroundings on one of the many cycling paths.

Take a five minute walk to the pier, shops and chippies of Southwold’s promenade or grab an ice cream from the fantastic shop across the road – if you don't have an ice cream in hand, you're not doing Southwold right. Or spend the day on Southwold Beach, also a five-minute stroll, while a nearby footpath takes you down to the harbour (around a twenty-minute walk), where you can get a foot ferry to Walberswick. Later, relax in the enclosed outdoor courtyard, back at this lovely home. We love the pretty shutters and the shelves full of books here. For the autumn and winter months there are three wood-burning stoves, while two separate reception rooms with sofas and TVs will ensure there’s no squabbling over what movie to watch. It’s a great spot for a family party or festive trip, especially for those who love to cook thanks to its Rangemaster with two ovens. So, why not cook up a feast with some local Suffolk produce for your loved ones.

It’s not often you get the grandeur of a country manor in a central location like this. Sitting within the East Cliffs of Southwold, right in the heart of town, you’ve got myriad restaurants, bars and shops to peruse on your doorstep, alongside a long sweep of sandy beach crowned with a Victorian pier. 

The home greets you as a grand, Victorian villa in honey-hued stone. At the top of a vast lawn, you can dine on the patio in comfy rattan chairs. A pathway through the garden leads right to the soft-sanded beach. 

Inside, we love the farmhouse-style kitchen which feels cosy with its range cooker and raw wood kitchen island. Seabirds and fish-themed object d’art in the dining room are a reminder of your seaside location, and the original fireplaces in here, the living room and bedrooms are a nod to the home’s Victorian roots. Plus, there’s an additional hang-out with bean bags of sofas separate from the main lounge – perfect for kids and teenagers. Bagging the master bedroom means sleeping like a fairytale hero in a four-poster bed with billowing curtains. 

Cliffside Manor

It's easy to see the draw of this period home located in the picturesque fishing village of Walberswick, just across the harbour from Southwold. From nearly every stylish room, you'll be able to catch a glimpse of the sea.

An excellent choice for a family seaside getaway, you're just a short walk from the beach for mornings of sandcastle building and kite flying. When tummies start to grumble, the village tearoom is a delight, or for something a little heartier, dive into one of the two charming pubs or walk over to Southwold via the footbridge for a fish and chip lunch.
