Despite its small size, this studio apartment's proximity to Paignton's seafront gets full marks from us. The water is so close, you could practically reach out and touch it from the living area, making it the perfect spot to enjoy some sand, surf and Devon sunshine. 

We love how the coastal scenery is reflected in the sleek and stylish design. Yellow chairs invite you to kick back and relax with a glass of wine, admiring the views framed in the full-height windows. The compact but well-stocked kitchen is ideal for romantic dinners at home, while the lush rainfall shower is just the ticket after a balmy day by the sea. 

Of course, days here are best spent wandering along the traditional pier, snacking on fish and chips at Goodrington Sands and dipping your toes in Tor Bay. The beach is a mere 100 metres away, but if you're keen on exploring a bit further, you'll find the South West Coast Path, Torquay and Exeter are just a short journey by car.

While in town, why not pick up some fresh produce to cook on the barbecue for the ultimate British summertime meal back home. Upon your return, knock up a few light bites in the swanky kitchen before sipping bubbly on your private glass-fronted balcony – we can vouch for the sea views. How annoying is it when you pack everything for an afternoon on the beach and make the journey over, before realising you've forgotten something crucial? At this home, Paignton Beach sits less than a hundred metres from the front door, so you can pop back in no time at all.

That may be the apartment's biggest perk, but there's more to the address than its proximity to Tor Bay. We've got a lot of praise for the contemporary design entirely absent of nautical kitsch – just lots of natural light, sleek tiling, and soothing white walls. Perhaps some might see the open living space as a little too limited in size, but there's just enough space in here for small groups to relax and cook modest meals.

Aside from the nearby stretch of sand, there are seafront pubs and the town's Victorian Pier with which to get acquainted, while the famous South West Coast Path runs close by the house and continues in both directions for dramatically beautiful walking routes.

King of the Sandcastle

Right on the promenade in Paignton, this apartment makes for a great seaside break. The South West Coastal Path runs right outside the door, so hikers can enjoy a day of clifftop walks in either direction. Following the bay, you can reach Torquay in just ten minutes by car. But there’s plenty to keep you occupied in Paignton itself, like the long sweep of beach, Victorian pier with old-style arcades and cafes, pubs and fish and chip shops galore.

For a night of restful sleep, head over to the comfy bedrooms – one featuring a double bed, and the second boasting a double and a bunk bed, perfect for younger guests. 

When you’re ready to head out and explore, there are plenty of choices here. From cycling and hiking the coastal trails to idyllic beach days and a variety of water sports to be enjoyed. You can also visit the local farm, and there’s a good number of shops and dining options nearby too.

This fantastic Victorian villa in the English Riviera is the perfect home for family holidays. Located in Paignton, this home is only a short walk from many great activities including Paignton Beach – a nineteen-minute walk away – where you will find the pier, the Geopark, a fairy cove, pirates bay adventure golf, and even a multiplex cinema perfect for those typical rainy British days. What’s more, Splashdown water park is a short nine-minute walk away and Torbay Leisure Centre – with its pool, gym and squash courts – is reachable in twelve minutes on foot.

Your little ones will love letting off steam in the home’s large, enclosed garden too, with the kid's swing, trampoline, treehouse, football goal and pirate boat. Meanwhile, you can relax on the garden bench with a good book or enjoy an afternoon Devonshire cream tea alfresco at the outdoor dining area. 

When it’s time to come indoors, head from the decked veranda through the French doors into the living space. Curl up on the sofa to watch a family film and even make it cosier with the wood-burning stove, which can be lit for additional warmth or roasting marshmallows. Your little ones hopefully won’t object to bedtime with the twin rooms one of which is Star Wars-themed and the other which features a dollhouse mounted on the wall and a whimsical fairy wall hanging to decorate.
