This barn conversion in deepest Herefordshire is bursting with rural authenticity. Not only is the property located close to a peaceful nature reserve complete with lakes, but it's also been Grade-II listed to protect its historical importance. However, despite this impressive pedigree, the home's interior is pretty contemporary, with a sleek kitchen, four-poster bedrooms and tiled bathrooms sitting quite comfortably underneath the original wooden ceiling beams. Dating back to the 19th century, this barn in the White Peak area of the Peak District has ben given a new lease of life in recent years. No longer used for farmyard storage, it's now a country getaway full of luxurious touches.

Save for the sections of exposed stonework, you wouldn't be able to guess this home's true age. The design is contemporary but definitely rustic in flavour, with bare floorboards, artfully weathered wooden furnishings and a Scandinavian-style wood-burning stove that's the ideal companion to return to after a long bout in the great outdoors. The building in which this apartment sits has had many functions in its near-two-century history — straw hat factory, corn merchants and estate agents to name a few. Today, however, you'll find a gloriously contemporary home that'll help you have an exemplary stay in Dunstable.

As you look around for the first time, you'll feel instantly at peace, something to do with the soothing greys used throughout. In the living room, a pair of purple sofas, parquet flooring and the chandelier make for a classy space in which to unwind, while the sleek corner kitchen is plenty big enough for cooking up special dinners.
