The market town of Cupar is a bustling area where ancient monuments collide with vibrant, modern high streets. A fifteen-minute drive from St Andrews, where you can play eighteen holes at the ‘Home of Golf’, you’ll need a home where you can hang up your clubs after a long day. Six minutes on foot from Cupar station, this unique building has historic tales to tell. Dating from 1815, this was the town council’s Burgh Chambers, where important decisions and important people were commonplace inside its walls. Mid-century on the outside, the interior is an ode to decadent manor homes with a vast library of books, oil paintings of the Dalrymple family and collections of private artefacts that should be in a museum. You won’t find any “don’t touch” signs though – guests are encouraged to pick fruit and veg from the kitchen garden, rack up a game of snooker in the games room and make use of the grand fireplaces with wood from the neighbouring forest provided.
