This home has been creating a bit of a buzz, and for all the right reasons. It's been featured by the BBC, and is a shining example of Scottish hospitality in the city of Inverness. Step inside, and you'll find a cosy space with plenty of seating, ideal for flopping down with a glass of whisky at the end of a long day exploring. The hosts have put great thought into every aspect of this home, from the luxury toiletries to the Bose speaker systems in every bedroom and the extra-large bathtub where you can soak in perfect peace. And, the hosts try to buy local wherever possible – once you've tried a cup of the locally-roasted coffee along with a freshly-baked slice of shortbread, you'll understand why. You're just a few steps away from the banks of the River Ness, and Inverness Castle is less than five minutes away from your front door, along with a range of shops and restaurants in the city centre. Jump in the car, and it takes twenty-five minutes to reach world-famous Loch Ness for some monster-spotting. Even if you don't spy Nessie, you can hop on one of the boat tours to sail along the water, or hit one of the nearby walking trails for an invigorating hike through the Highland landscapes.

From the outside, this Victorian home looks as quaint as quaint can be, but inside, guests will find an apartment that mixes vintage and modern aspects with considerable dexterity. In the living room, a large bay window floods the space with natural daylight, which dances nicely off the wooden floors and walls painted in muted grey. Elsewhere, we're big fans of the gleaming copper bathtub in the master bathroom that promises to be as comfortable as it is handsome. The lofty, open lounge caught our eye inside with a modern woodburning stove in the centre for chilly evenings. The kitchen is a dream with a range-style cooker and everything you need (even some things you don’t, like a warming drawer) for self-catering. Those bringing the dogs will appreciate the fenced-in garden and kids can hang out in the garage outside with its ping pong table.

Situated right on the banks of Uig Bay, this cosy homestead is the perfect spot to recharge. The views across the water are second-to-none, and you'll be able to relish in them whether you're gathered around the picnic table or lounging on the couch. Wake up each morning to the sun glistening off the bay, then pad into the country-style kitchen for a lazy breakfast and spot of tea. Afternoons are best spent relaxing in the garden, sipping Pimm's and watching the boats float by. When evening arrives, head inside for a delicious dinner, followed by a movie night in front of the crackling log burner. 

Uig is an absolute dream for walkers – there's a myriad of trails and routes to suit all different levels, ranging from leisurely strolls around the village to treks across the Trotternish Ridge. Castle Ewen (six-minute drive), The Fairy Glen (eight minutes by car) and the Rha Waterfalls (walkable in twenty) are all must-visits, but for a slower pace, why not relax with a local ale at The Isle Of Skye Brewing Company (ten minutes on foot), which overlooks the sea.

Outside, you'll find a private garden and wooden deck, where you can fire up the barbecue and enjoy an alfresco feast as you gaze over the Insh Marshes across to the incredible landscapes of the Cairngorms National Park. Don't forget your binoculars, because you also have a great view of both the nearby RSPB bird reserve and the train line – both birdwatchers and trainspotters will be delighted. Watch mist dissipate, clouds roll across the sky to cast shadows on the loch, and when the infamous Scottish weather drives you inside, well, you’ll still have floor-to-ceiling windows through which to keep that connection with the rugged beauty outside. 

With marble, wood, texture, and a lot of detail, this home not only feels modern, but it somehow retains the charm of a log cabin, albeit more luxurious, and the warmth that comes with it, making this feel like a home away from home. Take advantage of sunny days by exploring the area and find the Ardessie Falls only a short walk away. Stop off at the pancake tearoom or drive about fifteen minutes away to dine at the Ocean View Hotel. One of Scotaland’s famous hidden beaches, Gunaird Bay, is also at the end of a fifteen-minute drive.

Escape to the Scottish Highlands and experience the beauty of nature at this modern cottage. But when the weather’s fair, we recommend taking advantage of the decking area and garden that stretches down to the River Slatach. You’ll even be able to spot the famous Jacobite steam train passing nearby. While your host provides essentials like tea, coffee and sugar, if you need to stock up on other provisions, Fort William is the closest town, a thirty-minute drive away.

A Highland Romance

If you're after the sort of getaway during which you turn off your phone and cut yourself from civilisation — or work emails, at least — for a week or two of blissful isolation, we thoroughly recommend this home on the Isle of Skye.

You're sure to feel your worries disappear as you tuck into a hearty supper on the dining table blessed with beautiful views of the sea and the Scottish countryside, or while snuggled up on the sofa as the wood-burner stove crackles in the background. Whatever you choose to do, you can look forward to long evenings in a home designed primarily for cosiness. As well as three open fires for warming up cold hands, guests can also take advantage of the country-style kitchen with an Aga and a selection of rolltop bathtubs. If you really don't feel like lifting a finger during your stay, there's a team of chefs that can arrange the week's menu using locally foraged ingredients and housekeepers to cater to every whim.

When the sun makes an appearance — or you're feeling suitably warmed up after a dram or two — there's a hot tub in the garden, which also has children's play equipment and a barbecue. The Isle of Skye sits twenty minutes' drive away if you fancy a day trip, too.

If you want to try and spot the ever-elusive Loch Ness Monster, this old stone clergy house that has sat on the banks of the famed body of water for over a century-and-a-half lets you do so in the utmost comfort. Inside, the rooms are filled with varnished wood furnishings, boldly printed rugs and roaring fireplaces — so you can look out the windows at the loch without feeling cold in the slightest. Other noble flourishes come in the shape of the four-poster beds and the two deep claw-footed bathtubs. There's even a small garden out the back, but you're hardly short of beautiful outdoor attractions around these parts. Urquhart Castle is a fifteen-minute drive away, while Dores Beach can be reached in twenty minutes in case you're in the mood for a bracing wild swim. Although the address feels both rural and secluded, the town centre of Inverness only takes seventeen minutes to reach in the car, too.

You’ll really feel like you’ve escaped to the county at this wooden cabin in the Scottish Highlands. Nestled near a quiet stream on a 400-acre estate, the home boasts views across the Strathglass Valley from the balcony – best enjoyed while relaxing in the hammock. And with no TV or wi-fi, there’ll be nothing to distract you from your stunning surroundings. Though compact, the cosy cabin has everything you’ll need, including a fully-equipped kitchen, large sofa, and wood-burner. The bed is on a mezzanine level accessed via a ladder, so it won’t suit everyone, but the star-gazing roof window will make the climb up worth it. When you’re ready to explore, you’ll find waterfalls nearby, and Loch Ness a thirty-minute drive away.

There's plenty of history here, with the home being over three hundred years old – the garden is even believed to have inspired 'The Secret Garden.' Upon arrival, you're greeted by the butler, who will ensure you have roaring fires throughout your stay – perfect after a bracing highland walk. With two ballrooms, the home can be booked for weddings, and the two rooms with four-poster beds make perfect honeymoon suites. In the local area, you can play golf or fish (you'll need to book these in advance), cycle, bird watch, and visit distilleries to try the local wares.

Tucked away in the wild, untouched landscape of the Scottish Highlands, this home promises tranquillity with breathtaking scenery to boot. Here, you're a twenty-minute drive from Drumnadrochit, a village perched on the western shore of Loch Ness, and a fifty-minute drive from Inverness.
