While this apartment only takes up part of the ground floor of a Victorian house, it still benefits from some of the architectural quirks from the period. The big bay window, for instance, is particularly generous when it comes to natural light, while the high ceilings and large rooms lend a sense of airiness.

The interior design completed in more recent years is bursting with characterful touches, like the bold pattern wallpaper, hanging bare lightbulbs and the flourishing house plant in the main living space. Along with these aesthetic considerations, the basics are nailed, too — one look at the dark, sleek kitchen and bathroom will show you what we mean.

Staying on Cathedral Road is about as close to centre as you can get while still staying somewhere with a tranquil atmosphere, putting you close to great restaurants, museums, and famous sights. But let's focus on the studio for a moment. Not only is every piece of furniture a statement, you'll also find that the smaller details deserve plenty of praise. Luxurious bedding, a Nespresso coffee machine, a huge four-poster bed with a pillow menu to match your preference, and high-end toiletries, all testify to the hosts' desire to make sure you have a fantastic stay.

Located on the ground floor of a converted Victorian house, this ground-floor apartment has arguably the best position at the address. This is down to the private terrace, accessible through the bedroom's glass doors, which is a lovely place in which to sit and soak up the sunshine on summer afternoons.

The interior escapes the gloomy fate of many a ground floor flat thanks to the skylight above the kitchen, which fills the space with natural light. There's a reassuring quality to the furnishings and fittings, especially the minimalist kitchen and the dark bathroom.

Located on the outskirts of Roath, the local area has a laid-back feel popular with families and young professionals. That being said, the bright lights of the Welsh capital aren't too far away — the restaurants and venues of Cardiff Bay take little over ten minutes to reach in the car.

The sleeping quarters are dominated by soothing neutrals and the sleek grey bathroom has a tub for a relaxing soak last thing at night. The surrounding neighbourhood of Plasnewydd has a residential feel, but you don't have to venture far for livelier scenes. The Principality Stadium takes just over half an hour to reach on foot if you want to catch a rugby game or a concert, while National Museum Cardiff is a fifteen-minute bus journey.

The house is comfortable and convenient with a local shop under a minute from the front door, and creature comforts galore. The in-ceiling audio is a particular favourite – you can listen to your music throughout the home. 

Visit one of the many nearby cafes or bakeries for breakfast, before heading into the city centre for a spot of shopping. Cardiff Bay is only ten minutes away and is jam-packed with restaurants, bars and shops, as well as offering activities like boat trips that explore Cardiff’s coastline.

Set over two floors in a large Victorian house, the home features lots of the owners' finds from across the globe, from crochet rugs picked up in Brazil through to wooden African masks. Pick up books from the shelves and leaf through next to the large sash windows, or simply curl up on the leather sofa for a Netflix movie night. Our favourite space is the attic, reached by a winding staircase with a cosy bed tucked under the rafters and draped in netting — sweet dreams are pretty much guaranteed. The expansive Portcanna Fields are just across the road, while the Principality Stadium is a quarter of an hour's walk if you want to catch a game of rugby.

Compact but practical and modern, this one-bedroom apartment is ideal for everyone from solo nomads on a tour of the UK's castles – Cardiff's lies only minutes away – to romantic weekends in the city and even business trips. The heart of Cardiff with restaurants – great for candlelit dinners – and cafes – for work meet-ups – is a short drive or twenty-five-minute walk away. Though the home is small, there's room enough to comfortably fit two, though we could caution taller guests to watch their heads around the sloped ceilings. Short-stay parking is available outside the home, but Westville Road is best for all-day parking and is a five-minute stroll from the flat.

This apartment in south Cardiff is the perfect spot for a business trip, a family holiday or a couple’s getaway. The apartment is in Atlantic Wharf, a neighbourhood placed conveniently between the city centre and the sea. Cardiff Bay can be reached in twelve minutes on foot, where you can admire the grand russet exterior of the Pierhead Building, or get a dose of culture at the Norwegian Church Art centre, a beautiful gallery set in a 19th century church with views across the bay. After a day of work or exploring, draw yourself a bubble bath, and then settle down for a movie night together.

Catching our eye with its colourful living area and terrace, we think this flat in hip Pontcanna is perfect for two style-conscious couples. If alfresco dining is out of bounds due to drizzle, the breakfast bar can squeeze everyone around it for indoor meals. While the bedrooms are a little snug – the second requires one guest to climb over the bed to reach their side – they are cosy spots to rest after a day exploring Bute Park and Cardiff city centre (twenty-five minutes on foot or ten by bus). Closer to home, you'll find quaint eateries and cosy pubs just a short stroll away.

A pet-friendly pad within easy walking distance of Cardiff’s city centre, this comfortable apartment is all about practicality. Its fuss-free design isn’t the most wow-worthy of our collection, but it’s perfect for business travellers or families looking for a place to rest their heads between sightseeing ventures. Your host is happy to share their thoughts on the best restaurants, bars and dog-friendly spaces nearby and you’re a hop, skip and jump from Cardiff University and Cardiff Castle.
