This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. If you fancy something less sedate, you’re within easy reach of the River Dee here, perfect for leisurely lunchtime walks with your fellow guests. Burn off any excess energy with a bracing hike through the countryside, then come home and snuggle up by the fire. We don’t know about you, but we can’t think of a better way to spend the day.

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

This home was once a hayloft in a former life — the original circular window on the front is so shaped for pitching hay through — but today it's a perfectly cosy space for a rural getaway. Despite this functional heritage, you can safely banish any thoughts of cramped living quarters. Illuminated by a series of skylights, guests get access to a recently refitted kitchen that is plenty big enough for cooking up hearty dinners, as well as a lounge with comfy furnishings for sprawling out upon after long country walks. There is no shortage of outdoor pursuits to undertake in North Shropshire and just across the Welsh border, including wandering along the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, only twenty-four minutes away in the car. The Boat House gastropub on the outskirts of Ellesmere is only six minutes' walk away, too.

Located on the Llyn Peninsula, this converted barn is one of three separate cottages, each one facing a different way. This well-kept home is a great place to share with family or friends and has all the modern amenities for a comfortable stay. Outside, there is a large enclosed lawn and patio area with garden furniture and lovely views of the area. You can even arrange a barbecue and enjoy alfresco meals here. Centrally located in the quaint former fishing village of Moelfre, you'll find a convenience store, a couple of cafes and a pub a short stroll away, while it's a five-minute drive to the neighbouring village of Benllech, where there are a couple of supermarkets for stocking up on essentials.

A long, private drive leads to this romantic retreat in the rolling hills of the Llyn Peninsula. A restored cottage just for two, it's been modernised to a high standard with slate floors, all-white walls and a sociable, open-plan layout to the ground floor. A perfectly well-equipped kitchen and cosy sofa area include a small indoor dining table, and contemporary bi-folding doors open the space up to the patio outside, so it's easy to eat outdoors on fine days. Upstairs, the romantic bedroom has vaulted ceilings, skylights and a unique full-length arched window so you can stare across the fields even from bed. And we love the huge, super stylish bathroom, with its walk-in shower and freestanding tub below a skylight. Just a ten-minute drive from the pretty seaside village of Abersoch, it's the perfect base to explore this beautiful part of the world.

This lovely home is ideal for a Welsh getaway with family or friends. It’s a cosy cottage in a converted barn complex, surrounded by sea views and Llyn Peninsula’s countryside scenery. You’ll feel a million miles from the stresses of everyday life – if you want to unwind and focus on making memories, this home is an excellent base. 

The cottage is comfortable and warm, with king-size beds and a splendid open-plan living and dining space. If you’re anything like us, you’ll want to start each day with a cooked breakfast – tuck in and get set up for a day of exploring. 

You might drive seven minutes to the beach at Traeth Porthor to paddle and skim stones. Slightly further afield, the Trefor Sea Stacks are forty-eight minutes away by car and well worth a visit. The cottage is less than a mile away from the Wales Coast Path, so you’re never too far from those stunning sea views. 

Pick up fish and chips on your way back to the cottage, and dine alfresco on the patio. From there you can admire the views, and let the kids run wild on the lawn. Later on, curl up in the living room and play games together. Your four-legged friend can stay here too, so nobody has to miss out.
