Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

This delightful townhouse is on the beachfront of quiet Rhos-on-Sea. For a coastal getaway and the chance to experience the charm of a small town, look no further. 

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. There’s a small garden at the front of the house, where you might enjoy a cuppa while watching the fishing boats in the distance, as well as a sunny patio at the back of the house, ideal for takeaway dinners of fish and chips after long days spent on the beach. 

When you’ve had your fill of sailing, swimming and sea fishing from the beach, there’s still plenty to explore nearby. You might like to bring your bikes and set off along the coastal track. Conwy and its gorgeous castle are just twelve minutes away by car, which makes for a lovely afternoon out. Pop into a cafe for lunch before visiting the castle and taking in the history. Snowdonia National Park is also within easy reach, so any hikers in your group will be happy – a thirty-two-minute drive will see you setting off on walks that guarantee gorgeous scenery.

This home was once a hayloft in a former life — the original circular window on the front is so shaped for pitching hay through — but today it's a perfectly cosy space for a rural getaway. Despite this functional heritage, you can safely banish any thoughts of cramped living quarters. There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

This charming stone cottage in North Wales accommodates two guests and one child, with spectacular views of the Snowdonia Mountains from a secluded position above the Eglwysbach valley. The kitchen is the heart of the home, where your clan will spend time eating, drinking and playing card games if it tips it down outside. Light the wood-burning stove to keep the chill at bay or warm up with a brisk walk to the town of Blaenau Ffestiniog – you’ll get there in under an hour if you go at a decent pace. Spend sunny afternoons in the beer garden of the Pengwern pub, just a minute’s walk up the road, or jump in the car and take the ten-minute drive to the trout-filled Llyn Trawsfynydd. Hire a fishing rod or stroll around the water’s edge, stopping for a well-deserved cup of tea in the café along the way.

A short eleven-minute drive will take you to Denbigh Castle, with its ancient walls and bustling art scene in town. You can also head to the long sandy beaches of North Wales in less than half an hour by car, or pull on your hiking boots and enjoy a stunning walk through the Vale of Clwyd – it is an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, after all.

Slow down at this Welsh cottage set in the slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog fringing the mighty Snowdonia National Park. Inside, the original period features of this slate-clad home have been carefully restored to create a modern family home boasting comfortable interiors. The welcome hamper stuffed with local goodies is a nice touch, and outside, there's an enclosed terrace to savour morning cuppas. Parking on the road outside the cottage can be tricky, but with a free car park nearby, we don't think it's a dealbreaker. When you're ready for an adventure, Snowdonia National Park is just a short drive away. Or stay local and climb the surrounding Moelwynion Mountains to reach Stiniog –⁠ the views are worth the climb.

Paths to Dawn

Sitting at the foot of Snowdon, the highest mountain in Wales, this cottage is the perfect jumping-off point to explore everything that the nearby national park has to offer. 

With room for four guests, it's ideal for a family getaway. Of course, climbing the famous Snowdon has to be the main draw, but the hilly trails are also great for cycling, and calm lakes are perfect for stand-up paddleboarding. Thrill-seekers can be sure to get their kicks too at the world's fastest zipline, just 10 miles away. 

The surrounding village has a couple of cafes within a short stroll, where you can fuel your body each morning, while lakeside Llanberis is just 4 miles away – it's here that you'll find the start of the Snowdonia trail. Elsewhere the grand medieval town of Caernarfon sits on the coast, a fifteen-minute drive from your front door – its Unesco-recognised castle is well worth exploring.

After a long day of adventures, this cosy cottage is the perfect spot to return to. Dine outside at the south-facing picnic table in the summer months. On chilly nights rustle up warming Welsh fare in the dine-in kitchen before settling down in front of the flame-effect stove, set beautifully in exposed stonework – utter bliss. 

Slate Miner's Cottage

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

Farmer & Grain

This charming cottage is perfectly located for exploring the Isle of Anglesey. Though the interior is nothing out of the ordinary, the home is well-kept and has some great features, including a playroom with books, games, and even a wooden horse. Outside, guests can enjoy a private patio with stunning views of the area, as well as communal seating and a lovely courtyard at the front. There are two more cottages in the same building, so if you’re looking to accommodate a larger group, you can try and rent them together.

In the idyllic mining own of Blaenau Ffestiniog, this home was once an old chapel dating back to 1861. The building has been lovingly renovated, featuring an open-plan kitchen and snug area ideal for family living. There’s a pool table here too, which is boung to keep both the kids and grown-ups entertained for a few hours. When it comes to things to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

The Chapel Doors

When we say this is a historic home, we really mean it. A Roman bathhouse is said to have once stood here, and the current house could be the oldest in the county of Gwynedd – it dates back to around 1543. There are period features everywhere, from the inglenook fireplace to the traditional wooden beams and even an arrow-slit-style window. The garden is just as magical and makes a lovely spot for mealtimes or a relaxing glass of wine while admiring the bluebells. A pond, plenty of trees and a small stream, make it a haven for local wildlife too.

Snowdonia is a twenty minute drive away, where adventurous types can climb hills and ride through jaw-dropping natural mountain biking trails and valleys to their heart’s content. Dwyfor Rabbit Farm delivers fun family activities where you can feed the bunnies. Take a walk along the golden sand, spruced with pebbles and a rocky area that lines Criccieth beaches, exposing rock pools at low tide. Come home for a soak in the Victorian tub, a warm drink by the fire, and then climb into the antique French bed to dream about the days to come.


Melted Butter

Maroon yourselves at this luxurious barn retreat for two, nestled away in the beautiful wilds of the Llyn Peninsula and within a mile of a hidden sandy beach.

This once humble barn has experienced quite a transformation of late. It's preserved the old (would you look at those vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework) and embraced the new with a king-sized four-poster bed, freestanding slipper bath, and stove burner, evoking rural romance. 

With wood stacked by the fireplace and a welcome hamper ladened with goodies, you may find you have no desire to venture out. But really you must. Follow the coastal path to the west and discover Porthoer (Whistling Sands) – a National Trust beach with a charming beach-side café where the sand really does whistle when the conditions are right. And just a smidge further, the beautiful seaside village of Aberdaron, at the tip of the Llyn Peninsula (three and a half miles away). With a thatched roofed tea room, seafront restaurants, obligatory fish and chips, and a glorious sandy beach, this place delivers all the Welsh charms you're chasing.

Single-Level Home

Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up delicious dinners, and there are plenty of shops nearby to stock up on ingredients and fresh seafood. Aberdovey is a small seaside village on the harbour, but there's plenty nearby to keep you entertained – be it crabbing on the jetty, sea rowing at the rowing club or nibbling on fish and chips at a beachside picnic. But for more action-packed adventures, hike the picturesque Wales Coast Path or roam the nature reserves in Snowdonia National Park – the ancient woodland in Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is an hour's drive.

Ocean's Dance

Located on the Llyn Peninsula, this converted barn is one of three separate cottages, each one facing a different way. If you're a keen birdwatcher, you'll love this home's location on the banks of Foryd Bay, a nature reserve in North Wales that sees huge numbers of different species migrate to the area for winter. However, even if your interest in wildlife is less obsessive, we're sure you'll still fall for the sweeping views of the Menai Strait and Snowdonia in the other direction. The cottage is certainly geared up for just sitting back and marvelling at nature, with huge windows in the living room, as well as a roof terrace and a hot tub in the enclosed garden facing the water for when the weather's more agreeable. When the sun's gone down, you'll find this home the epitome of cosiness, especially with the fireplace crackling away and the whole party snuggled up on the comfy sofas surrounding. Although you'll find the immediate surroundings beautifully tranquil, there's plenty of action nearby if you seek it. Dinas Beach is only ten minutes away in the car, while the world's fastest zip line can be enjoyed — or not — at Zip World Penrhyn Valley, just over half an hour's drive away.

The Twitcher

Not only does this stone-built cottage overlook Snowdonia’s majestic mountains, but it has a hot tub to enjoy the incredible views, too – savour the landscape with a glass of Champagne. The terrace is a lovely space for atmospheric alfresco dining. Relish the vistas from inside with a glass of wine from the welcome hamper (it also includes a selection of local products, including sliced bread, eggs, tea, coffee, milk, cake, and biscuits). 

We love the character features, such as the vaulted ceilings and beams. When it’s chilly, snuggle up around the log burner with your loved ones or challenge someone to a game of table tennis. There’s underfloor heating here, too, to keep your toes toasty, and every bedroom is ensuite. This home is the ideal retreat for a family or group of friends looking to explore this wonderful part of the world.
