There aren't many homes in our collection where you could feasibly arrive by kayak rather than by car, but this is one of them. Perched on the side of the Menai Strait, this four-storey gem dates back to the Victorian era and benefits from beautiful views of the sea, Bangor Pier and the Snowdonia mountain range. This can be enjoyed from the big bay windows or the comfort of the outdoor terrace. Better still, you can head down to the home's private shingle beach which also has a small cave to explore. Back inside the home, the interior is traditional, with portraits hanging on the walls and a large wooden dining table a regal centrepiece to gather the group around after the day's excursions. The town of Beaumaris with its castle, pier and beach take just six minutes to reach in the car, while you can get to Penrhyn Zip World in twenty minutes if you're looking for hi-octane thrills.

The house is just across the road from the beach, so each morning you’ll wake up to the sound of the sea gently rushing to shore. Floor-to-ceiling windows in the living room showcase the home’s prime beachfront location – if you’re anything like us, you’ll lose track of how long you spend gazing at the peaceful view. With five bedrooms, a long sycamore dining table and luscious green lawns, there’s no excuse for not inviting the whole family for a trip to this Welsh farmhouse. The 16th-century building is full of historical details – look out for the old baking oven, chapel benches and even a coat of arms on the ceiling. Built a few years ago, this beautiful conversion may still bear some resemblance to a barn with its stone clad facade, but that’s where the similarities end. Inside you’ll find simple, clean lines and, apart from a few pops of colour, a fairly neutral colour palette. Stylish, and clearly modern, the home’s crowning glory is the wide expanse of green that can be admired from the front door. Stare out over the beautiful dips and peaks as you take your seat at the wrought-iron table outside and nurse your first cup of coffee of the day. 

Breakfast can also be enjoyed out here if you prefer, although the wood dining table in the living space is elegant, and with its position right next to a window, you don’t entirely lose sight of the scenic views on offer. 

With a real focus on reconnecting you with nature, most of the ground floor rooms open up to let the fresh country air in – take a nap on the cushy bed with the doors ajar and wake up refreshed. 

Walk the grounds or watch the little ones run around on the lawn whilst you enjoy a glass of wine in a sun lounger. This is also a great spot for sunsets, but before that, you can drive out and explore the rural Welsh beauty of this area, you might want to stop off at the Rhug Estate Farm Shop and drive-thru, about six minutes away, to refuel before perhaps enjoy two splendid nearby reservoir walks: Brenig and Alwyn

The Valley Barn

This cosy cottage is tucked down a quiet street within the historic walls of Conwy. Perfectly sized for two guests, there’s an open-plan living room with a wood-burning fire, a snug bedroom and a small courtyard (shared with the neighbours). Two dogs are welcome to join you here, plus there’s a sweet welcome pack with Prosecco provided for your arrival. Outside, you’ll find everything you could need on the doorstep. From here, it’s a short walk to the castle, beaches and amenities. It’s also a great base for guests looking to adventure further afield and explore Snowdonia National Park.

Sea on the Horizon

Picture the scene — you've just spent a long day in the great Welsh outdoors and you're faced with the choice of snuggling up by the crackling log burner, lying back into a steamy bath or sitting out in the garden and watching the sky go through its dramatic daily transformation. This is the sort of difficult decision you face when you choose this cute cottage as your next getaway.

This is a home that's completely dedicated to cosiness, right down to the rustic decor touches, like the wooden ceiling beams and soft furnishings. Another way to feel completely at peace is by looking through the wide window in the master bathroom, which faces Malltraeth Marsh, a designated Site of Special Scientific Interest that's great for birdwatching.

It's also possible to see Snowdonia from this address and you can be inside the National Park in half an hour's drive. Closer to home, it takes thirteen minutes in the car to reach the beach at Traeth Mawr or twenty minutes for the two-thousand-acre Newborough Forest.

Migratory Patterns

One of the funkiest former grain stores we ever did see, this little home is part of a farm in the countryside just outside Pwllheli. Lovingly converted with a great deal of flair and imagination, it's far from your usual holiday home. Upcycled furniture, industrial pieces and pops of colour mix with natural wood, leather and slate. The ground floor living space is cosy and quirky, with a log burner, beamed ceilings and an open staircase. Cook up family meals in the fully kitted-out kitchen and choose to eat indoors or out in the private garden. There's so much to love about this place, but we particularly like the wet room, with its rain shower, light tunnel and penguins hiding in the built-in shelves, and the pretty garden with its fun seating areas. With the owners just next door, make use of the gym, make friends with the farm animals and cook on the fire pit in the evenings. It's just a ten-minute drive into the town, with loads more to see and do nearby, from walking and horse riding to playing on the sandy beaches.

This whitewashed converted farmhouse is a wonderful choice for welcoming families or groups of friends to enjoy the beauty of the Llyn Peninsula. Surrounded by vast greenery and steps away from the coast, it's a fairytale getaway come to life.

This home might be a traditional farmhouse from the outside, but the interior is sleek, contemporary, and comfortable. Here, you can shed the daily grind and embrace a slower pace of life, while still keeping ahold of modern comforts. Lovely accents of green brighten up the home, which is cloaked in soothing shades of grey. But that's not to say it isn't without its traditional charm. The original stone fireplace stands in front of centre of the dining room, while the warmth of the wood burner permeates the home. And perhaps most importantly, the country house-style kitchen provides the perfect social space, capturing what people love about country homes – making memories with family and friends.

You'd be hard-pressed to find somewhere as scenic and relaxing as the Llyn Peninsula. Walkers will revel in the famous Llyn Coastal Path, which leads you onto the lovely beaches of Porth Towyn and Porth Ysgaden. The area's Irish Sea stems off into emerald pools, backed by hills carpeted in lush grass and flowers – it's truly enchanting. The area is also teeming with quaint towns and villages, like Tudweiliog – just a twenty-minute stroll away. 

The Sounds of the Swells

Characterful and cosy, this charming coastal retreat is mere steps away from Aberdyfi Beach. The crashing waves are so close you can almost touch them from the living area – in fact, you can sit at the dining table and see the beach out the big windows. It's the perfect spot to savour a glass of wine and people-watch, but with the art galleries, restaurants and the sea on your doorstep, you'll surely be tempted out. On rainy days, curl up with a book on the squishy sofas, play a board game or two, or just snooze the afternoon away in the two comfortable bedrooms. The kitchen has everything you'll need to rustle up delicious dinners, and there are plenty of shops nearby to stock up on ingredients and fresh seafood. Aberdovey is a small seaside village on the harbour, but there's plenty nearby to keep you entertained – be it crabbing on the jetty, sea rowing at the rowing club or nibbling on fish and chips at a beachside picnic. But for more action-packed adventures, hike the picturesque Wales Coast Path or roam the nature reserves in Snowdonia National Park – the ancient woodland in Ceunant Llennyrch National Nature Reserve is an hour's drive.

Maroon yourselves at this luxurious barn retreat for two, nestled away in the beautiful wilds of the Llyn Peninsula and within a mile of a hidden sandy beach.

This once humble barn has experienced quite a transformation of late. It's preserved the old (would you look at those vaulted ceilings and exposed stonework) and embraced the new with a king-sized four-poster bed, freestanding slipper bath, and stove burner, evoking rural romance. 

With wood stacked by the fireplace and a welcome hamper ladened with goodies, you may find you have no desire to venture out. But really you must. Follow the coastal path to the west and discover Porthoer (Whistling Sands) – a National Trust beach with a charming beach-side café where the sand really does whistle when the conditions are right. And just a smidge further, the beautiful seaside village of Aberdaron, at the tip of the Llyn Peninsula (three and a half miles away). With a thatched roofed tea room, seafront restaurants, obligatory fish and chips, and a glorious sandy beach, this place delivers all the Welsh charms you're chasing.

In the idyllic mining own of Blaenau Ffestiniog, this home was once an old chapel dating back to 1861. The building has been lovingly renovated, featuring an open-plan kitchen and snug area ideal for family living. There’s a pool table here too, which is boung to keep both the kids and grown-ups entertained for a few hours. When it comes to things to see and do, you’ll be spoilt for choice when it comes to activities. We recommend heading into town to rent bikes and exploring some of the many biking routes on offer, which will have you riding past old quarries, lakes and rivers.

The Chapel Doors

The medieval town of Shrewsbury is the truly historic heart of Shropshire, with nearly 700 listed buildings in a town of just over 70,000 people. With such a striking skyline and such fine examples of 15th-century construction techniques, it’s no surprise that your home is another architectural marvel. This terraced house has been completely refurbished in a superbly modern fashion. Our favourite spot has to be the bright and airy open-plan living space. With its wonderful bi-folding doors, this clever design essentially removes the wall between your home and your south-facing courtyard garden (perfect for the unpredictable English weather). Mid-century furniture looks stylish in the lounge, while the roll-top tub up in the master en-suite brings a vintage edge to proceedings. For more on local history, take a stroll through town to reach Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery in just eighteen minutes. Another fantastic walk is along the River Severn. Your home is just three minutes from the riverbank, from where you can follow it all the way across the border to Wales. It’s definitely one for experienced hikers with a strong pair of boots though, at just over ten miles away.
