Refined and exclusive, this large home is tucked away on the outskirts of Souda, a few minutes' drive from Chania. And while it's convenient for the beach, restaurants and nearby shops, you could easily convince yourself you're in a more secluded, rural location thanks to its green scenery. With a huge walled garden, where you'll find a gorgeous pool, cypress trees and olives, it's your own slice of paradise.

Inside, there's flexible accommodation thanks to a second living room and kitchen, while the main space is contemporary, fresh and minimal. Whites and creams make the place feel cool and calm, and there's a glossy, new sheen to everything. We love the high-tech kitchen, with its wine fridge, ice machine and every other gadget you can think of. And while whipping up a meal in here is a real pleasure, there's also a barbecue in the summer kitchen by the pool. Bedrooms and bathrooms are plentiful and countless glass-enclosed balconies mean everyone gets a great view. We particularly love the Jacuzzi bathtub, where you can really relax in peace and quiet. 

But it's the outside space that really makes this home shine. Its pool is surrounded by a large terrace, with plenty of sun loungers, and while the lawns are ideal for letting the children run wild, there's another section of garden to explore with lemon trees, grapevines and an organic garden with Mediterranean vegetable and fresh herbs – any of which you're very welcome to cook with.

You won't have to go far to stay hydrated, as the villa boasts its pool bar, with a fridge and stools that give the feeling of being in your private taverna. 

The modern architectural design presents a space that harmonises with the surrounding landscape and garden. Keeping the kids entertained here couldn't be easier with a Mediterranean botanic garden (featuring a small river) and a children's playground. Did we mention there is also a private wellness centre that features a gym, sauna, steam bath and opportunity for an at-home massage in the villa too? Meaning the adults of the group can dedicate some well-deserved time to relaxation and leisure just as much as the children. 

A separate studio space that sleeps two guests independently from the rest of the house (with space for an additional two people on the sofa bed) allows for privacy and practicality when travelling as a large group. 

Admire the unforgettable sunsets from one of the many outdoor seating areas before making the most of the outdoor cooking area and serving up some locally caught fresh fish on the barbecue. Then, once your stomachs are filled, head over to the hidden cave – which has to be our favourite spot on the home. Presenting a cosy space to unwind with a bottle of wine and board games, you don't get to relax in unique settings like this one every day – and that's a fact. 

Positioned just a ten-minute drive away from Chania Town, when you can bring yourselves to leave this sanctuary of paradise – an abundance of local restaurants, shops and bars await your discovery.

With a truly enviable location on the north Cretan coastline, this recently built villa comes chock-a-block with pleasant surprises.

It makes sense to start outside as it's likely that guests will be spending a great deal of time here. A swimming pool sits in the middle of this space and is surrounded by loungers, umbrellas and an outdoor shower. Just beside, there's a shady pergola with seating and you'll also find another covered terrace with a barbecue closer to the house. Add to this a vegetable and herb garden that guests are free to pick from, as well as a children's play area, and you have distractions for all ages.

The home itself benefits from a balcony from which you can survey the grounds, but don't completely neglect the interior. You won't be surprised to learn that the property was only built at the start of the 2020s — there's a very contemporary feel to the decor, from the inbuilt fireplaces and glossy kitchen surfaces to the equally modern bathrooms. Both floors have their own kitchen and living room for added flexibility, and there's also a billiards room too.

When you fancy an afternoon at the seaside, Golden Beach can be reached in only three minutes in the car, while the historic landmarks and shops of Chania take just longer than ten minutes.

Warm, earthy tones flow around the villa, with classic artwork adorning the walls. The garden area is a serene spot – on days at home you can choose between swimming lengths in the inviting pool or playing a game of table tennis with loved ones, as greenery wraps around you. The swing seat is just asking you to take the weight off, and settle down to get lost in the pages of your summer read for an hour or two – all you need is a glass of wine as an accompaniment and you’ll be in true holiday mode. At the end of the day, you have the choice of a barbecue or outdoor wood oven to rustle up a delicious dinner, which naturally, should be enjoyed outdoors at the stone table with your loved ones around you.

For days out exploring, Chania is a must-see – wander around the Old Town, sink your toes into the sand at Balos beach, or hike the famous Samaria Gorge. After working up an appetite, indulge in a spot of Cretan cuisine washed down with some home-brewed raki.

Located on the Akrotiri Peninsula, this wonderful villa offers a slightly different option for large groups travelling together that want the option of privacy. It looks like one property from the outside, but each floor is a separate apartment in itself, each with a lounge, fireplace, kitchen and dining area. The upper storey has a balcony, but the lower level has direct access to the garden.

We don't like to pick favourites, but we'd probably plump for the ground floor, purely for the reason that it would get us to the home's wonderful exterior that little bit quicker. Out here, you'll find a long saltwater swimming pool, a covered barbecue area and a dining area underneath a pergola where you can enjoy the fruits of your labour. All of this is set in a pleasant plot populated by olive trees, aromatic herbs and Mediterranean flowers.

Another perk is that there are beaches in pretty much every direction you head in, with the closest — Agios Ounoufrios — only ten minutes' walk away. Chania Town only takes a quarter of an hour to reach in the car, as well.

The centre of resort town Kounoupidiana is a three-minute drive, or twenty-minute walk, where you’ll find shops to stock up on groceries and restaurants aplenty. If you feel like heading into the charming town of Chania to explore its Venetian port, it’s a twenty-minute drive away.

Marble pillars and a midnight-blue tufted sofa create a sense of opulence inside, alongside sparkling, tiered chandeliers and polished marble floors. This place is like your own private palace, with golden accents and Grecian urns throughout. Bedrooms are lavish retreats with gilded frames around flatscreen TVs and marble-clad bathrooms. Listen to the gentle sound of the waves at this detached, luxurious home with its minimalist architecture. This place has been designed by a sea lover and you can tell. We adore the vistas overlooking the bay of Chania – this villa is frontline meaning it's totally private. 

If you tire of swimming in the gorgeous infinity pool (unlikely we know) there’s a private path down to the rocky coastline. There’s a lawn at the back too offering some shade and a bit of respite from the Crete sun or dine under the pergola. As the light fades, enjoy the most romantic of sunsets as you sip a glass of raki from the welcome hamper provided by your lovely hosts. Later, relax in one of the bedrooms – the sea views from every room are divine, or unwind in one of the wellness showers.

Out and about it’s a few hundred metres to the picturesque Tersanas Beach, while the pretty old Venetian port of Chania is just twenty minutes in the car. This home and location is just perfect.


Rendezvous at Sunset

This home is all about the views. The villa is spread over three floors and its front wall is almost entirely made of glass, so the vistas are stunning. There are quite a few stairs to navigate so it won’t be suitable for everyone – parents of little ones will need to be very attentive. The villa is modern and cheerful, but when you’re visiting Crete you’ll likely to want to be outside most of the time – happily, the outside space is lovely.
