We especially love the sleek black kitchen, ideal for the budding chefs in the group, and the balcony with its view of the local area. Unfortunately, there isn't enough sofa space for everyone in the living room, but the home's excellent location means you'll have plenty of excuses to head out – you'll find a myriad of parks, museums and restaurants just a short stroll away.

A Spritz of Euforia

In Nea Skioni, Halkidiki, this villa is just 50 metres from the nearest sandy beach. It’s a short walk into the coastal town, where you’ll find seafood restaurants and family-run tavernas galore. Days can be spent by the poolside, or indulging in long, lazy lunches on the terrace outdoors with the sea shimmering in the distance. Although it’s one of four similar maisonettes within a holiday complex, the traditional Greek touches inside – a stone fireplace and beachy bric-a-brac on the open-plan living area – save it from feeling generic.

You're within easy walking distance of Thessaloniki train station, and there's free street parking right outside. Granted, the kitchenette is small, but it's surprisingly well-equipped. The private balcony for evening drinks is a nice touch too. It's worth noting, though, if three of you share, the last guest will have to make do with a sofa bed –⁠ so privacy and space are lacking here. Expect to pay a small fee for your initial supply of bedding and towels, too.

You'll find this apartment in the heart of Thessaloniki. Restaurants on your doorstep, landmarks within walking distance, the sea only a short stroll away – how's that for a top-notch location? The apartment itself isn't bad, either. We like the jungle themed-design, and although some rooms are a little dated (namely the bathroom), there's a decent amount of space here for families and friends. But our favourite is the small balcony overlooking the street – it's the perfect spot to enjoy a coffee or glass of wine in the salt-tinged air.

Grecian Jungle

Live like a Greek god in this beautiful home, located in a prestigious resort in Pefkochori. Not only is there plenty of space and style, but it also has some serious green credentials – the villa is powered by solar panels. 

The interior is simple yet chic, and makes use of natural, locally sourced materials. Step onto the balcony, and you'll find that the calming ambiance continues – it's the perfect spot to sip your morning coffee. On the ground floor, you can make a splash in the swimming pool when the temperature rises, take a dip in the Jacuzzi, or soak up the sun on a lounger. And, when the evening rolls around, serve up a grilled feast from the barbeque to enjoy at the alfresco dining table. 

The water's edge is just 150m away from your front door, and Pefkochori Beach's blue flag makes it an excellent place to swim. The clear water means it's a good spot for snorkelling, and when you get hungry there are local tavernas lining the promenade. And, if you fancy exploring further afield, head inland to find hilltop churches, quaint Greek villages, and some excellent hiking trails. 

Violet Petals

A stone's throw from the sea, this villa has an independent apartment on the ground floor and step access to the rest of the home. Part of a complex of maisonettes, you won't have perfect privacy and you may hear some noise from neighbours during your stay. But there are plenty of spots to relax both indoors and out with the private pool and space for alfresco dining. While you'll be right by the sea, you'll have to drive a short way up the road to the nearest sandy beach, which is the gorgeous Nea Skioni beach.

White Horizon

A short drive away from Kallithea sits the tiny village of Afytos. More laid-back than other towns in Halkidiki, it's a great spot for a low-key getaway – and it's where you'll find this pet-friendly apartment. Perched on the cliffs overlooking the sea, the private terrace is ideal for soaking up the sunshine and scenery. It's part of a resort, so you'll also have access to a communal swimming pool (open seasonally) and the small bay at the base of the (very steep) hill. The interiors are a little lacklustre and veer towards dated, but the location speaks for itself. Your host is also happy to arrange excursions, boat trips and other fun-filled activities for a fee.
