You'll even have access to a semi-private little beach – ideal for morning swims. An oasis of calm, our favourite spot is the terrace, with its comfy seating and view across the water and the mountains. 

Fully staffed with a maid, chef and a team of gardeners, you need not lift a finger but keen cooks will enjoy getting to grips with the well-equipped kitchen and the barbecue, or just head into town for a meal at one of the many excellent restaurants. Just be sure to be back in time to see the sunset over the sea from your garden – it's really something special.

We defy anyone not to be instantly smitten with this gorgeous villa on the northeast coast of Crete. Both the interior and exterior are dominated by clean lines and modernist design, and there's a strong Scandi influence in most of the furnishings. There are several balconies that have a breathtaking view of the sea and mountains on the island of Kalydon, plus a swimming pool down at ground level for when you want to cool off from the Mediterranean heat — and a Jacuzzi if you ever want to get warmed up again. The host can help make your stay extra special by arranging yacht reservations, water sports and scuba diving trips, as well as for a private chef to visit the home. As you can probably guess from the panorama, the sea isn't too far away and there are beaches that start as nearby as six minutes' walk away. As well as that, bars and restaurants in the local town of Elounda take a similar amount of time to reach.

The sweeping coastal views from this newly-built villa may be heaven-sent, but it’s the lengthy pool and stylish sun terraces which are getting us hot under the collar. An excellent choice for two couples sharing, each bedroom has direct access to the wraparound panoramic balcony and an en-suite shower room to kickstart your day. Location-wise, the centre of Elounda and its wide sandy beach and seafront restaurants are just a two-kilometre stroll downhill –⁠ and you can always hop in a taxi on your way back home later.

At first glance, this villa perched on top of a Cretan cliff is an architectural marvel, but the most impressive aspects lie beyond its appearance. The architects behind the project used ecologically sensitive practices during construction, from natural paints and installing energy-efficient fittings to choosing sustainably sourced stone.

This should give you a sense of quiet satisfaction while you wind back and relax here, which is remarkably easy to do. The infinity pool has glorious views of Mirabello Bay, as well as cascading waterfalls and a Jacuzzi. After a dip, there are numerous terraces on which to take a breather, including a pergola with a barbecue underneath if you're feeling a little peckish.

In this corner of western Crete, you're not only spoiled for beaches, but history abounds in this area — the nearby island of Spinalonga can be reached by boat from Elounda and has an impressive fortress from its time under Venetian occupation.

Soak up the brilliantly blue views from this stellar holiday home. It sits up high, overlooking the incredible Elounda Bay – but the prime position is not the only elevated thing about this home. It's been created to ensure every guest can enjoy pure relaxation – there's a multi-level outdoor area with plenty of space for each guest to soak up the sunshine, including from the stunning freeform infinity pool, as well as the covered dining terrace where you can sip cocktails at sunset. Inside the home is stylish and modern, yet still retains a ton of traditional Cretan charm, with its whitewashed walls and built-in furniture.

Spend idyllic days in the freshwater, heated swimming pool overlooking the sea when you stay at this villa. We love the views of Mirabello Bay and the island of Spinalonga from the terrace and balcony – enjoy them with a glass of wine from the complimentary bottle.

Inside is elegantly decorated, but most of your attention will be on the wonderful vistas. One of our favourite spots is this villa’s attic – it’s a secluded spot, furnished with a desk and sitting area and it overlooks the azure waters of the private sandy beach. This place is located just two steps away from the development’s private beach club so you can be on the sand in five seconds and have access to all kinds of water sports and beach services.

If you want to explore further afield, we’d recommend the ancient city of Lato, which is thirty minutes in the car.

With beautiful views over Spinalonga Island, this villa has a wonderful location – we particularly love the vistas from the bedrooms and living room. On chilly nights, there’s a feature wood burner to cosy up in front of and when it's lovely and warm there’s a stone wall-enclosed terrace with a small pool/Jacuzzi to relax in. Out and about, go for a stroll on one of the stunning beaches of Elounda Bay or head to Agios Nikolaos with its array of bars and restaurants.

Perkali

Magnificent views over Mirabello Bay and the famous island of Spinalonga are the first things guaranteed to catch your eye from this villa in Plaka. Just as stunning from the pool as they are from the terrace's alfresco dining set, the far-reaching vistas certainly steal the show here. Once inside the home, you’ll find a comfortable two-floor living space with everything needed for a fuss-free stay. The beige and brown colour scheme of the decor isn’t half as exciting as the blues and greens of the scenery outside. But given the home’s location just 600 metres from plenty of ​​Greek restaurants and bars – not to mention the seaside with its many boat trip opportunities – this home ticks a lot of boxes. 


Island Eyes

This immaculate villa made from natural materials calls out for group celebrations and special occasions. It's high above the Cretan Sea, so you can soak up the sunshine while watching the waves wash in and out of shore. In complete isolation and privacy, this modern home uses bi-folding glass walls and patio doors to optimise the landscape vistas and gorgeous surroundings. 

We particularly love the infinity pool overlooking Mirabello Bay, complete with sun lounge chairs and a decked terrace. Top up your tan poolside, before cooling off with a refreshing dip for lunch. Gather the group together for an alfresco meal with traditional mezze platters being passed around the outdoor dining table. If a cat nap is on the cards, the comfortable bedrooms ensure a restful sleep, and you'll wake up to stunning ocean views, thanks to the sleek, retracting glass. 

There are a few surprises at the villa too for that added level of luxury. Whether you're an active type looking to maintain your daily fitness routine in the gym or after a leisurely evening in front of the home cinema, it's all catered for at this crowd-pleasing pad. 

If you can peel yourself away from this slice of paradise, the nearest sandy beach is well within reach here (1km). For those exploring further afield, Plaka Beach makes for a great family day out and is only a 10km drive away, while the charming town of Elounda is just a short drive from your doorstep for those culture-seekers. But whatever you get up to, ensure to return to your luxurious jacuzzi in the master bedroom for a romantic evening watching the sunset over this beautiful island.

If you want the privacy of a villa, but the convenience of a luxury hotel, then you've come to the right place, because this home has it all. Set above the Gulf of Mirabello on Crete, it's the ideal place to kick back and relax in perfect peace with your favourite people. 

Breakfast is included, so you can start your day right – sip your morning coffee as you look out at the panoramic sea views. When the temperature rises you can take a refreshing dip in the sparkling swimming pool, before drying off on a sun lounger with a good book. Start the day by stepping onto the terrace to enjoy the spectacular seascapes from one of the comfy day beds, before a cooling dip in the private infinity pool. 

Venture down to the garden's lower level and you'll find a lush green lawn with a children's play area, perfect for keeping the little ones entertained. If you ever manage to tear yourself away from the villa, you needn't venture too far to get a taste of Plaka, with steps from the terrace leading down to a pebble beach. Relax on the shores and let the waves wash over your toes for a while. Hikers will no doubt appreciate the area's towering mountains that house numerous caves to explore.

At the end of an adventure-filled day, head home to whip up some Greek-inspired dishes in the outdoor kitchen. We highly recommend dining alfresco beneath the pergola, then moving over to the outdoor lounge to enjoy a few cocktails while the sun sets over the horizon.


Harmony in the Hills 

Nestled up on a hillside, this Cretan villa is in a prime position overlooking the ocean as well as the uninhabited island of Kalydon. You're just a short walk from the picturesque pebble beach of Plaka and within easy reach of Agios Nikolaos. Inside, the home is welcoming and traditional – it looks a little dated in parts, but we think this adds to its quaint charm – and you'll find you have everything you need for an effortless stay. You’ll find this villa on a hillside in the small village of Plaka, just outside of Elounda. It’s part of a complex of three villas, surrounded by a herb garden and offering remarkable views of Elounda Bay and out to Spinalonga island. Its setting on a hillside means that you’re in for some steep climbs back after days out exploring – we’d recommend hiring a car if your mobility isn’t tip-top. Once you’ve braved the incline, though, you can reach Paralia Plakas, a pebble beach, in just 300 metres. That’s in addition to your private pool and a lovely terrace with a barbecue area – not to mention the Jacuzzi bathtub. 

A Song for Sunsets

If it’s views you’re after, you’ll love this villa. It was built on a hillside close to the pretty village of Plaka, and boasts spectacular views of Mirabello Bay and Spinalonga Island. From almost every angle, your eye is drawn out to the panoramic vistas and sparkling sea. There a multiple terraces for you to appreciate the setting from, as well as a private pool and a lovely alfresco dining area. Spread over three floors, there’s heaps of room here. There’s even a separate TV room that’s ideal for teenagers. You’ll need a car to get the most out of your stay, as the closest beach is 5 kilometres away.

While the interiors won’t win any design awards, this home is all about outdoor living. With the beach at the end of the garden, who needs to be languishing indoors? Simply wander down the garden path and you’ll be greeted with glittering blue waters and a semi-private beach. The stone-built oven and dining terrace sets the scene for colourful group meals as the sun softens. With lawns, shaded trees, various outdoor nooks for curling up with a book or cool drink, you’ll slip into the local pace of life. We love the simplicity and local white-wash feel of this home. Enjoy the archaeology of close-by Elounda, or take a boat trip to Spinalonga, the inspiration for Victoria Hislop’s novel “The Island.”

While the interior could do with an update, the place has everything you need to feel right at home, including a wellness room with a Jacuzzi tub. Though we think you’ll spend most of your time outside – just look at those views from the balcony and private pool. If exploring is on the agenda, you’ll find Plakas Beach and a handful of restaurants just a short walk from your doorstep.

Nestled on the side of a hill with a pretty view of the sparkling Aegean Sea, this villa is an excellent option for a large group looking for a week or so of pure escapism.

You'll feel a sense of peace as soon as you cross the stone bridge leading to the property and enter the gardens filled with olive trees and Mediterranean foliage. Head around to the rear of the address and you'll find a pair of infinity swimming pools with loungers and a hammock arranged invitingly around the sides. There's also a barbecue and plenty of terraces on which to enjoy food fresh off the grill.

It's not just the swimming pools that come in twos — there are two separate homes inside, each with a kitchen and lounge, which offers extra flexibility. Both have been treated to the same contemporary styling, with white walls, eye-catching lighting fixtures and an open fireplace for when after the sun's gone down. 

As you would hope with such proximity to the sea, there's a superb range of beaches nearby, starting from as close as five minutes' drive away. The resort town of Agios Nikolaos only takes eighteen minutes to reach in the car.

A villa with stunning sea views just 300 metres from the beach? Sign us up. This home can be found in Elounda, and is perfect for large groups – you can even bring your pets, so absolutely nobody has to miss out. There are two separate guest rooms with independent access so you won’t all be under the same roof, but this might suit couples seeking a little more privacy. You can definitely enjoy your own space here – stroll three minutes from the villa and you’ll discover additional grounds with hammocks swaying between olive trees and quiet corners for meditation. What bliss.

Situated on a hillside backed by jagged mountain peaks and overlooking Mirabella Bay and the Venetian fortress of Spinalonga, this three-bedroom villa is set to wow you at every turn. 

The interior offers an informal barefoot luxury vibe perfectly in keeping with the coastal setting. Earth tones, local handicrafts, and elegant wood and leather furniture dotted throughout the open-plan living space feel both ecological and elegant in equal measure.

From here, large sliding doors offer direct access to the gorgeous poolside patio, where you can enjoy views over the lush landscape, relaxing sunbathing sessions and dining out in the fresh air. The bedrooms, which are split over the ground and first floors, also benefit from outdoor access to the terrace or a private balcony with sweeping views out to sea.

For a change of scenery, why not make the short journey to some of the area's best beaches. Plaka is a little over a kilometre away, while Elounda is little more than a five-minute drive. Both offer fine sand and crystal-clear waters that are perfect for snorkelling, waterside bars and restaurants where you can sit and watch the world go by, plus ferries over to the island of Spinalonga.

And yet, being on a complex, there's plenty of opportunity to mingle and enjoy the shared amenities here, too – this includes the on-site creche, ideal if you're travelling with children. On top of that, you'll find two restaurants and a bar (one serving up your complimentary breakfast each morning), and you'll have access to the private beach club, accessible by a free shuttle bus. And with charming spots such as the nearby fishing village of Elounda a short drive away, you'll find plenty to do.

Everything about this impressive estate encapsulates the spirit of Crete, from the private Greek Orthodox chapel to the expansive large open terraces. Up on a hilltop overlooking the sea, this stone villa has views as far as the eye can see. Three kilometres from the town of Elounda and facing east, at the end of the day you’ve got an unparalleled view of the sun setting over the water. Head into the charming harbour town of Agios Nikolaos, a ten-minute drive away, for an evening of shopping, tavernas or perhaps a day chartering a boat. 

Gardens bloom with olive trees and wildflowers all around the villa. Bag a poolside beanbag lounger to soak up the sun or relax in the shade of the veranda. A banquet-sized dining table provides the alfresco option on the terrace, alongside that fabulous view, so you can watch yachts cut across the ocean as you dine. Perhaps the best place to enjoy the view is from the sun-trap roof terrace, lined with sofas. Pathways through the wild countryside are shared with another villa and lead to secret playparks and hammocks in the trees.

Inside, it’s calm and white with boho touches like big wicker lamps and wildflowers in vases. The main living room is flooded with sunlight from floor-to-ceiling windows and a second living room is centred around an old-style fireplace with candles glowing.
