We can’t imagine a holiday more serene than a stay in a seaside villa. We're completely infatuated with this home's rustic charm. It's set across two pastel-hued and ivy-clad villas, making it the perfect base for families and large groups. In and of itself, this stone and brick villa is rather dreamy. The timber roof trusses and tiled floor bring an easy rustic charm, and the furnishings are unshowy. Large glass doors can be opened on warm afternoons — plenty of those in Tuscany — to let a cooling breeze circulate through the interior. They also look out to a lovely view of the Pratomagno mountains. However, the home is part of a compound with some excellent communal amenities. Pass through the lemon grove, for instance, and you'll come across a large infinity pool with a covered pavilion at the side for alfresco lunches. Elsewhere, there's a well-stocked library and a theatre space where musical and artistic events often take place. Guests can embark upon a stroll in the surrounding private park, where you'll find olive trees, traditional stone walls and waterfalls on the Resco River. You might find there's very little need to leave the address, but the local town of Pian di Scò takes just over twenty minutes to reach on foot if you fancy a change of scenery.

You’ll wake up under an authentic wood-beamed ceiling in one of the elegant bedrooms. Making your way downstairs, past antique paintings and a grandfather clock, you’ll enter the dining and living space. As in any Italian home, this is the heart – you’ll likely spend hours sitting around the dining table.

Outside, the covered veranda is the perfect place to sip coffee – or vino in the afternoon. The pool is a short stroll away, surrounded by lush lawns and trees. It’s a dreamy place to be whether you’re swimming laps, soaking up the sun by the water, or reading a book in the Jacuzzi. 

The villa is a twenty-nine-minute drive from Siena, which is a great city for day trips. Discover the history of the Palio, enjoy a spot of shopping, and treat yourselves to a decadent lunch in a piazza.

Painted in a cheery bright yellow, we think this villa in the Ancona region will have you smiling before you’ve even unloaded the car. Lovingly restored, the house has been renovated in a traditional style that pays homage to its humble start as a farmhouse while showcasing the many great attributes it now holds. Spread over three floors, the home also has two separate apartments - one with a double bedroom and living space on the ground floor which can be accessed from both the main building and the dining terrace, and a small second apartment on the top floor with a sofa, two beds and a kitchenette. As vibrantly decorated inside as it is outside, there’s a rustic, cosy feel to this home that we just love with its antique furniture, bright washes of colour on the walls and exposed ceiling beams that create a warm atmosphere to feel right at home in. But it’s the outside where this sunny villa really shines - with several hundred square metres of land surrounding the villa, you’re treated to not only a beautiful, uninterrupted view of Le Marche countryside but also to a well-cared for, mature garden that features lavender, lilac, pink hydrangeas, oleander, roses, and fruit trees of all kinds. Needless to say, there’s plenty of space to spread out here as well as all sorts of peaceful spots to take a nap, read a book or enjoy an evening aperitivo. And the pool not only boasts some of the best views on the grounds but is large enough to host a whole family of novelty inflatables and is surrounded by a generous number of sun loungers so no one has to wait their turn to top of their tan.

When staying in Tuscany, who doesn’t want a 16th-century villa, with life-size frescoes and acres of grounds to explore? This place sits between the medieval borgo of Monte San Savino (a ten-minute drive) and the alluring city of Arezzo (a fifteen-minute drive). 

This villa’s swimming pool really grabbed us – a long, turquoise triangle, covered at one end to keep you shaded during the heat of the day. Loungers sit beneath parasols and the huge, outdoor dining table is shaded by an L-shaped pergola, dappled with jasmine. There are sprawling lawns for the kids to run free, and a tennis court and ping pong table too.

Inside, each apartment has its own living area, from the grand lounge set around an ancient stone fireplace to the book-lined family snug and TV room. The kitchen is sleek and modern in slate grey and white but sits beneath the old wooden ceiling of this 16th-century villa for a touch of the past.  

Between The Olive Groves

You’ll find this lavish Tuscan villa at the end of a tree-lined drive, where cypresses stand sentinel against the rolling landscape. A swimming pool set in the perfectly manicured lawn provides a cooling reprise from the Tuscan sun, and there are plenty of loungers to while away the days. Terracotta and flagstone floors inside retain that old Tuscan feel, alongside frescoed walls and ceilings. This home is the largest of four cottages, so there’s plenty of space for the whole family, as well as a shared swimming pool and lush gardens outside. Location-wise, this is a great spot, being situated along the border between Tuscany and Umbria. We’d recommend renting a car and taking some day trips to see as much of the area as possible.
