This practical apartment is located in the charming town of Lierna on the banks of Lake Como. It's contemporary, albeit a tad basic, but you can't beat the picturesque views from the private balcony. Head down into the shared garden and you'll find a communal pool ideal for afternoon dips. We think it's a great base from which to explore the region. Not only are a few shops, restaurants, and a small beach within walking distance, but you can also reach Lecco by car and Belaggio by ferry.

Take in the beautiful views of Lake Como from this home's terraces – perfect for sunset suppers. There are views from this abode's living space, too, awaiting you. If you need to catch up on work, both bedrooms have dressing tables that can double up as a laptop space. But, if you're a group of six, two guests will be sleeping on a sofa bed in the living room. If that doesn't bother you, then you'll love the location. This home has private access to the Green Way footpath, which leads to Varenna (twenty minutes on foot) and the beach, a three-minute stroll away.

Within walking distance of Lake Como, the sandy shores of Molo di Sotto beach, and a plethora of shops and Italian eateries, there’s plenty to occupy your time here.

We think it works well as a family base, as the third bedroom has bunk beds that are ideal for little ones. When you're ready for adventure, hop in the car and drive to Como, Cernobbio, and Argegno – all less than twenty minutes away.

Combining tradition and contemporary comfort, the rooms are well suited to groups in search of ease and relaxation. Highlights include the sweet little balcony and the views, plus your host can arrange welcome packs and housekeeping. It’s worth noting the stairs do not have a handrail so this may not be the best option for families with young children, but you will find this is a great base for a lakeside adventure. The views of Lake Como from this home are simply gorgeous – we could sit on the balcony here gazing out over the gently rippling water to the mountains for hours. You can enjoy the incredible vistas from the terrace too, where you can relax on the sun loungers or dine alfresco. Whip up some tortelli di zucca in the sleek, dove grey kitchen for dinner. On chilly evenings gather around the fire or get some rest in the stylish bedrooms with their ornate wallpaper. 

Situated in Argegno, there are a range of eateries within a five-minute walk. Further afield, the alpine city of Lecco, with its splendid Basilica di San Nicolò, is eleven minutes in the car. Or walk the trails of the stunning Monte Barro Regional Park, a sixteen-minute drive from this lovely home.

In the mountainous peninsula between the two “legs” of Lake Como, this villa sits in splendid isolation. Manicured gardens surround the traditionally ochre-hued villa where towering trees hide secret swings, picnic benches and even a spot for badminton. There’s a patio for dining in the sunshine and here you’ll hear nothing but the cheep and pip of birdsong. 

An ivy-covered front and typically green-shuttered windows greet you at the end of a long driveway. Inside, terracotta floors keep things cool underfoot and wooden ceilings are reminiscent of the old world. A huge stone fireplace crowns the main lounge, complete with the villa’s old family crest. There are plenty of seating nooks tucked away in this home to hide with a good book. Chefs will love the traditionally Italian kitchen, which has been upgraded from its farmhouse days with granite worktops, but you can still feels the bones of the old kitchen in the wood-topped hearth (now home to a microwave and working bread oven). 

Dining can be a formal affair in the separate dining room, illuminated by a medieval-looking candelabra, or a casual breakfast just off the kitchen.

In terms of location, you’re secluded away between the mountains, but the shore of Lake Como is a short drive. Head to Bellagio, where cobbled streets lead to the lake shore and water taxis head out onto the water – it’s just a ten-minute drive away.

Or head to Como Cathedral and Basilica di San Fedele – both are around five minutes on foot. There are a variety of cafés and restaurants for lunch on your doorstep, or head back to this elegant apartment. 

Open up the French doors to the Juliet balcony and take a seat on the comfy sofa to rest your feet for a while. We love the living room with its polished wood floors and vases of cream flowers. Whip up an insalata caprese in the modern kitchen and enjoy it at your dining table next to the wall adorned with giant cutlery. If you’ve ever fleetingly imagined another life for yourself – drinking espresso in your stylish Italian apartment as the sun streams in through the tall windows, maybe – then welcome to your Como abode. Framed by wooden shutters, the wonderful huge windows define every room, letting light dapple over the beautiful parquet floor. And with air conditioning and an in-home washing machine, there’s no compromise on functionality. The huge living space is great for hanging out after a day of sightseeing, and we love the super squishy corner sofa. Crucially, the home is right in the heart of the pedestrian part of the city. You're right next to Palazzo Garibaldi, and plenty of restaurants, shops, bars. It's a short walk to the waterfront promenade too – we've taken longer to polish off a gelato.

What a location this home has in the heart of Varenna's historic centre. Lake Como is just 10 metres away, while restaurants, ice cream parlours and shops are also very close by. Down one of Varenna's typical alleys, you'll find this charming house in a private courtyard full of roses and palm trees. A raised terrace with alfresco dining is perfect for enjoying the sunset. There's also a stunning view of the famous 'Walk of Lovers' from this home. Inside, there's an upside-down layout, with the bedrooms and a bathroom on the lower ground floor.

The Varenna View

This home, while compact, still oozes grandeur. The lovely high ceilings and multiple huge windows play a part. But there are other carefully considered details that give this apartment some extra oomph – light fittings are bold as brass, while the marble floor tiles and polished granite tabletop add some serious class. The ice machine in the high-spec kitchen is perfect for that cold Aperol Spritz you’ll be sipping by the window in the sunshine. In the lounge, the wall-mounted TV comes preloaded with Netflix, but there are restaurants and bars aplenty right on your doorstep as you’re right on the main square, so you might never reach for the remote. Even better, the serene shore of Lake Como is only a short stroll away, so hop in a water taxi and explore the pretty villas and villages of the lakeside. There’s so much to love about this home, with plenty of space to spread out and enjoy some quiet time or socialise as a group. But, the standout for us is the view. Whether you’re drinking in the lake vistas from the indoor or outdoor space, it’s something you’ll never tire of. And, when the scenery pulls you in, it’s a mere four-minute drive to town and the lake, where delicious Italian eateries and adventures await. 

Timeless Tranquillity

Located on a picturesque square in the centre of Como, this apartment is a playful mixture of tradition and modernity. You only have to look at the sleek kitchen island sitting underneath wooden ceiling beams, or the stone basin in an otherwise contemporarily styled bathroom to see what we mean.

The stark white walls, large windows and generous amount of space make the interior feel light and airy. However, if opening the shutters isn't quite cooling enough for you, there's always the option of stepping out onto the home's private terrace, which has a corner bench on which to enjoy warm summer evenings.

There are plenty of wine bars and restaurants in the adjoining square and the surrounding streets, but perhaps the most important thing to note is that the southern bank of Lake Como can be reached in barely a minute's walk. But aside from the setting, we love how bright, cosy, and comfortable this apartment is. It seamlessly blends the traditional with the modern – think exposed brick fireplace, stained glass windows, and terracotta floors. The cherry on top is the private terrace, where you can sit with a glass of wine and enjoy the evening sunshine.

This contemporary apartment is located in Via Tommaso Grossi in Como, offering panoramic views of the city and lake from the communal rooftop terrace. We love the sleek interiors of this home, which provides a comfortable stay for a family or group of friends. Just note – as a party of five, two people will draw the short straw and sleep on the sofa bed in the living room. Still, it’s a sacrifice we’d be willing to make for this pad’s enviable location. If the views tempt you out for a meander, you’ll find Como at your feet just waiting to be explored.

One of the main highlights of this apartment is the vistas from the bedrooms overlooking the lake. There’s also a desk in the main bedroom if you need to work while away. We love the two small balconies as well – perfect for enjoying the atmosphere of the piazza. This is the place to book to experience the heart of the city.

Arrive in style at this lakeside property on board a resplendent Riva speedboat, thanks to its private jetty. Disembark and step inside to discover a spacious and stylish open-plan living area and kitchen, kitted out with all the culinary accoutrements you might need to whip up delicious homemade meals, just like nonna used to make.

From the living room, not only will you enjoy access to a private balcony through two sets of French doors, but also awe-inspiring panoramic views capable of bringing a tear to the eye. The soothing atmosphere of the bedrooms will help you relax after your journey, while there's a good amount of storage space so you can unpack and settle in. The main bedroom even finds room for a desk and enjoys access to an en-suite shower room.

When you're not sunbathing and swimming in the lake, explore the surrounding village of Laglio. With slopes full of vineyards and olive groves, and pastel-coloured villas, it's one of the most elegant lakeside locations. But don't take our word for it. George Clooney purchased his nearby eighteenth-century estate back in 2002 and still returns multiple times a year, some two decades later.

This villa overlooks the town of Bellagio and enjoys stunning mountain views. The kitchen and certain bathrooms might be a little dated, but the range of amenities makes this home great for families or couples. The wine cellar is well-stocked and the home gym is well-equipped, while the sauna and private pool offer fun and relaxation for all ages. We love this location not only for its beauty but for its practicality – you'll want a car for ease of getting around, but it's only a two-minute drive to the nearest restaurants and shops.

We defy anyone to look through this home's photos and not feel instantly at ease. It's something to do with the ample amounts of space, cleansing white walls and large arched windows that look out over rooftops and also flood the interior with sunshine.

The design is definitely sparse, although we think there are enough personal touches to ward off accusations of anonymity. The floral-style lampshade in the bedroom is eye-catching and we also like the vintage travel adverts hanging in frames on the wall.

However, don't be surprised if you don't actually spend all too much time in the apartment. The home's position in the Mezzegra region is simply gorgeous, helped by the fact that the banks of Lake Como can be reached in five minutes' walk. Villa del Balbianello takes forty-five minutes to reach on foot, while you catch a ferry to the town of Bellagio in just over an hour.

If you're looking for a home with a view, then they don't get much more awe-inspiring than this. Right on the edge of Lake Como, this sweet apartment offers sweeping vistas across the water and a wonderfully peaceful setting. 

The interior is modern yet welcoming, cloaked in soothing neutral shades. The windows usher in plenty of natural light, and we loved the charming wooden ceilings. However, the jewel in the crown of this home is the outdoor space. Simply wake up and open up the patio doors to step right onto the balcony – it's the perfect place to sip your morning coffee. There's also a terrace with sun loungers where you can admire the sweeping landscapes, and even access to your own tiny beach if you fancy a paddle. 

If you feel like getting out onto the water, then there are a few boat rental companies just a short stroll away. However, if you would prefer to stay on dry land, then there are a few restaurants where you can sip a glass of wine and admire the boats from afar. Plus, the town of Bellagio is just a fifteen-minute car ride away – wander through the cobbled streets, gelato in hand, before taking a stroll through Villa Serbelloni Park.

With its Cubist-inspired interiors and signature furniture pieces, this home could be plucked straight from the pages of an interiors glossy. It's an impressive space, with green views of the mountains from the small but charming balcony. The only slight let down is the double sofa bed in the second bedroom – fine for a short stay, but it won't suit everyone. However, the two separate bathrooms and desk will be handy, as will the private garage parking should you plan to drive. Not that you'll need to. The Old Town, bustling with bakeries, cafes and restaurants, is just a stroll away.

This apartment will be an irresistible option for those in search of impressive views of Lake Como. The central location is equally appealing – making it easy to walk to the nearest beach (Molo di sotto), set sail on boat trips and savour delicious Italian meals in local restaurants. Back at home, you can unwind on the little balcony or in the living room. At full occupancy, two guests will be sleeping on the sofa bed, but this is a great option for families in search of simplicity and comfort. Children’s amenities can be provided and your host can help organise extras like breakfast and housekeeping.

Inside, exposed stone walls lined with leather-bound books, an antique stove, and a kitchen carved from granite make the home feel like a place out of time. With its lakeside setting on a wooded hillside, there's definitely a 'Lord of the Rings' vibe about it.

Two double en-suite bedrooms continue the theme, with plenty of curios and trinkets lining the walls. Just choose between the lake view room, where you'll hear the sound of the waves lapping at the shore, or the forest view chamber that looks out through the laurel trees.

We love the vistas over Lake Como from this apartment’s Juliet balconies in the living room and bedroom. On a practical note, the living area can get a bit cramped if four guests stay, as two will be sleeping on a sofa bed here. Also, the kitchenette doesn’t have an oven or much food preparation space, so it’s best suited to making snacks and light meals. Luckily, there are a couple of eateries nearby. This home is situated in Carate Urio on the western shore of Lake Como, with lots of residential villas. If you fancy going on a boat trip to explore Lake Como’s other towns, take a ten-minute walk to Urio’s dock.

The Cosy Lakeview Hideaway

This apartment sits in the heart of Varenna, a short walk from the picturesque Lake Como. Shops, restaurants, and the train station are also nearby, putting you in a prime position to explore both near and far. While the fuss-free interiors aren't the most exciting, we think this is a practical option for families and friends. The balcony is a lovely spot to relax with a glass of wine – even if it's overlooked a bit by neighbours – and the kitchen is a decent size if you want to prepare meals at home. With the double sofa bed in use, space will be tight, so we think it's best suited for four.
