This is a charming country house located on top of a hill surrounded by trees and fields. It's situated in a traffic-calmed area, 3 km from the centre of Collecorvino, offering a peaceful and quiet retreat. The house has a large shared garden with a barbecue for guests to enjoy. The upper ground floor features a large kitchen, 3 double bedrooms each with its own shower/bidet/WC, and an exit to the veranda with one french bed and two double beds. There's also a large terrace of 30 m2 with terrace furniture, balcony furniture, and 4 deck chairs providing guests with beautiful panoramic views of the valley. The property is conveniently located near several towns and cities such as Città S.Angelo and Pescara, which are only 10 km and 15 km away respectively. The sea is just a short distance of 10 km while skiing areas are approximately 40 km away. Please note that the owner lives in the same residence, has a dog, and does not accept any youth groups.

This rustic Italian retreat looks out over a peaceful Umbrian valley, yet it’s only a short walk into the historic centre of Amelia for the local cheese shop, bars, bakeries and grocery shops. Dating back to the early 1900s, you can see the turn-of-the-century architecture in the stone steps between terraces and wooden-shuttered windows. It’s a veritable playground for those that seek relaxation in the terraced gardens, where succulents fill the perfectly positioned flower beds. Spend days floating in the sleek, modern swimming pool with its integrated Jacuzzi. Lunch can be taken at the round table on the lower terrace, while dinner can be set up on the upper terrace at the more formal spot. Sun loungers are shaded by parasols and there are two hanging egg chairs for reading in the sun. From here, you can catch a glimpse of the sea with the Pontine islands floating in the deep blue.

Inside, it’s an ode to grandeur as rooms are filled with gallery-worthy sculptures and striking paintings. Art deco chandeliers in the luxe living room hark back to the villa’s origins and you can take in that sea view from the comfort of plush sofas. The home itself used to be a stable and while there's none of the period charm you often find with restored buildings, we think that it's a solid – if slightly unremarkable – place to rest your head for a week or two.

With its beamed ceilings, brick fireplace, terracotta tiled floors and time capsule of curios, the living room feels like the epitome of rural romance. That is until you see the kitchen. With its marble farmhouse sink, corner hearth and myriad culinary artifacts decorating the walls, you’ll find it infinitely hard to resist fixing up a nonna-approved feast, courtesy of the vegetable garden outside. The rustic decadence continues upstairs in the two comfortable bedrooms, with the canopied bed in the master bedroom promising a sumptuous night’s sleep. Thanks to the home’s position on a slope, both floors have direct access to the lush, green grounds. With a whopping 1,500 square metres of gardens to enjoy, including a swimming pool, there’s no end to the outdoor relaxation on offer. After a decadent day of luxuriating in the pool and exploring the surrounding nature, fire up the barbecue to enjoy an alfresco meal under the pergola while you watch the sunset from your hill-view haven.

Located halfway between Tuscany's Natural and Cultural Park and the Tyrrhenian coast, this woodlands home is the perfect rural retreat for large groups of friends or extended families. Thanks to its elevated position overlooking the valley of beech and oak trees, there are gorgeous views for alfresco lunches on the terrace and early-evening sundowners by the pool. With nothing but falling chestnuts, scurrying squirrels and roe deer to disturb you, this one will take you right back to nature's simpler pleasures. 

Stone walls and wooden shutters are parr for the course these days, but the grand fireplace, antique chandeliers and beamed ceilings really caught our eye. A multipurpose room with a home theatre, pool table and sauna makes for the ultimate rest and relaxation spot. Cook up a storm in the charming country-style kitchen, before tucking into a wood-fired pizza out on the covered terrace. Float about in the glistening south-west facing pool, as you gaze at the dramatic Monte Labbro backdrop in the distance. 

Drive back up the winding hilltop roads to discover the medieval Borghi of Montalcino, known for its delicious local wine and vineyards, or head to Saturnia for its thermal waters – there's a host of achingly beautiful Tuscan hamlets and villages just a short drive away, while authentic eateries, restaurants and bars are less than 600m away from home. 

Healing Chestnuts

Sitting within a medieval borgo (little village) whose heyday was the early 17th century, this villa complex embraces old-world Umbria. It’s pure peace and quiet out here between the endless olive groves (extra virgin olive oil is the region’s speciality) and rolling hills covered in a patchwork of fields. It’s five kilometres to Monte Castello di Vibio with its ancient theatre and fifteen kilometres to the pretty town of Todi for restaurants and supermarkets.

The yard, where wheat was once threshed by hand, is now home to a smattering of chairs and tables for tipples in the sunshine. The porticoed upper terrace is the perfect spot for breakfast, or big barbecue lunches, with views of the 22-hectare estate. But the crowning glory of the gardens has to be that Roman-style swimming pool with its panoramic view of the countryside.

Accommodation is split between three separate buildings set around the courtyard. Two annexes have their own kitchenettes, living rooms and dining area so the group can spread out. The main villa is home to myriad antique-filled lounges and living rooms, including a striking main lounge set around the ancient hearth. Low, wood-beamed ceilings and old agricultural tools on the walls give that rustic farmhouse feel. A little games room invites guests to sit down for a game of chess or to peruse the library of books in here. But the real bonus inside is the dedicated celebration room which is a vast, barn-like space which can be set up for dining, dancing or even a spot of yoga.

Never a Frown

Arriving at this Umbrian villa, you wouldn’t think it was a new build – it’s got all the character and charm of an old, Italian farmhouse with brick-lined, arched windows and a terracotta roof. It’s built with local stone and embraces organic architecture. Blending in with its bucolic surroundings, it looks out over the Oasi di Alviano nature reserve – home to protected Umbrian flora and fauna. It’s a short drive to Terni to explore ancient ruins and local cuisine in family-run restaurants and a traditional medieval hilltop town awaits at Todi nearby.

The first thing that catches the eye is the inviting, Roman-style swimming pool that looks out over the fauna-filled valley and patchwork fields to hazy hills in the distance. A loggia-style dining area houses a table for the group and a barbecue grill, all with that stunning view before you. Steal away to the olive grove and curl up in a hammock with a holiday read.

Inside, antique and vintage pieces throughout add to the old farmhouse feel of the home, alongside wooden ceilings and terracotta tiled floors. A huge double-sided fireplace sits between the dining and living room for cosy evenings in. The view from the arched window in here is simply sublime – framed like a picture on the exposed stone wall. Up on a mezzanine level, you’ll find a secluded little reading nook to hide away in.  

New Old World

Lined with cherry trees blossoming elegant flowers in the springtime and juicy fruits in the summer, this country farmhouse invites guests to experience the silence of nature on its impressive grounds bursting with greenery and beautiful wildlife. 

Inside, simple designs accentuate the home's original features and traditional Italy – think terracotta floors, exposed wooden beams and floods of natural daylight via the large windows overlooking the garden and surrounding landscape. When it's sunny, you'll likely want to spend much of your time outside. Open up the living room's French windows and find your perch under the pergola – here, you'll get to take in the tranquillity of the meadows and watch the grazing horses of the surrounding countryside passing by. 

Take a dip in the private swimming pool, or soak up the sunshine on the loungers in total seclusion – the natural shade of the trees fringing the garden fragrance the air and offer cooler areas to relax out of the sun if preferred too. Perched on its own hilltop and just twenty minutes from Saturnia's famous thermal springs, this traditional farmhouse is the place for you if you're really trying to get away from it all. With nothing to bother you apart from the sounds of the local wildlife and the twinkling of the stars at night, it's a rural retreat for nature lovers, artists and musicians. Here the order of the day is country walks, reading in the shade, whipping up delicious meals each evening and just generally enjoying the good life. There's no need to rush anything here.

But if, after breakfast on the terrace, those views across the iconic hills have motivated you to explore, that's easily done too. Head to the surrounding villages to see their Etruscan and Roman ruins, explore Montemerano – a twenty-five-minute drive away – and don't miss the nearby thermal springs. A little isolated for some, it's a short drive to pick up supplies or eat out – but for others, this is the magic of this place.

Silent Hills

This former farmhouse boasts panoramic views, a private swimming pool, and plenty of character. Everyone will love milling about the garden. Stretch out on a poolside lounger after a dip, or gather under the veranda for a drink as the sun goes down. We're big fans of the traditional details inside – think chestnut ceiling beams, terracotta floors, and antique Sicilian majolica pottery. For those keen on privacy, the fifth bedroom is situated in an adjacent annexe with its own kitchenette. Location-wise, the small commune of Attigliano is a five-minute drive away, while Orvieto, Perugia, and Rome are all great day trip options.

New Perspective

You can watch the stunning sunsets from this stone farmhouse in the Umbrian hills. Take in the views of the surrounding valleys from the private pool, garden and balcony – wonderful memories with family and friends are sure to be created here. Nestled among the beautiful woods and cultivated meadows of the Umbrian hills, you'll find this sprawling four-hectare estate. Or, if you want to explore the area's bars and restaurants, the ancient Italian town of Massa Martana is just a short drive away.

Traditional and cosy, this villa has all the hallmarks of an Umbrian getaway. The private pool is open in the summer and boasts panoramic views of the surrounding hills. Indoors, there's plenty of character to admire – the home was built in 1616, after all. Our favourite spot is the conservatory-style lounge, with its large windows showing off the scenery. Two bedrooms are located in a separate annexe, making it ideal for those wanting a bit more space and privacy. As for location, you'll be based near the medieval village of Monte Castello di Vibio and within easy driving distance of Todi, Perugia, and Orvieto.

Umbrian Touch

This glorious villa is ready to welcome you on an idyllic Italian lakeside break. Based just a short drive from the blue waters of Bolsena Lake, this 20th-century Italian farmhouse has been respectfully renovated to keep the original features that give this home its unique character – with exposed beams of chestnut wood, dramatic round vaults and beautiful terracotta floors. We love the contemporary, minimalist style that they’ve blended in with the retro feel, making the home feel absolutely charming.

We absolutely love the dining area, where you can feast on Italian suppers of soup and risotto all together. There are two large living areas, giving you plenty of room to stretch out and relax – one featuring a lovely fireplace where you can cosy up in colder months. There’s even a ping pong table where you can challenge your loved ones to a table tennis game or two. Outside, you’ll find huge, lush expanses of green parkland, as well as a private pool where you can take a refreshing dip.

That Old Chestnut

It’s all about peace and seclusion at this Umbrian villa. On all sides, you’ve got a patchwork of rolling fields and acres of olive groves. Should you wish to discover a bit of Umbria on a day trip, the beautiful city of Orvieto is a short drive away – a shamble of ancient, ochre buildings sitting on a hilltop. However, days here can easily be spent without leaving the grounds.

The saline swimming pool is an inviting shade of turquoise, sitting against the Umbrian hills and surrounded by greenery. Beneath ancient olive and oak trees, you’ll find wooden tables for rustic lunches outdoors – perhaps cooked in the little stone building that’s been converted into a barbecue shed with a wood-fired oven. 

Beyond this villa's stone and wood-shuttered facade, you’ll find an ode to Umbrian tradition. An arched fireplace in the main living room harks back to days gone by while the worn terracotta bricks underfoot keep things cool. Wrought iron candelabra and wooden ceilings give a medieval feel to the huge sitting room in the annexe and there’s a small, book-lined living room for a quiet moment alone. Double wooden doors open up from the kitchen to the patio, so the shuttling of salads and sauces to the barbecue area is a breeze. In the bedrooms, dark wood and wrought-iron furniture keep the traditional feel going.

As far as villas go, you don't get much more 'hilltop' than this. Soak up the views across the Umbrian hills towards the city of Todi, a tableau so beautiful so you'll never want to leave. The scents of jasmine, lavender, and roses follow you down the stone steps to the infinity pool, which is surrounded by sun loungers and a shaded gazebo. The views take centre-stage in the villa, too – large windows surround the space, where you'll find a country-style kitchen with an island and a cosy living space with a corner sofa and fireplace. A marble staircase leads upstairs to the bedrooms, where you'll wake up each morning to similarly spectacular country vistas. Sip your coffee outside on the terrace, then spend the morning sunbathing on the perfectly manicured lawn. Take the 10-minute drive to Todi to wander the cobbled streets and explore local restaurants – you might recognise some of the plazas from Italian movies. Pick up some local wine to enjoy with a barbecue back at your villa, and savour a glass while admiring the stunning sunset over the surrounding hills.

Sweet Jasmine

Culinary types, rejoice – Quattro Formaggi has everything an epicurean could need. Take self-catering to the next level by harvesting vegetables from the garden, picking olives from the trees, or even catching your own fish from the pond (rods provided). Assemble your ingredients in the outdoor kitchen, then roast them on the barbecue or pop them on a pizza base for baking in the stone oven. There’s even a cantinetta for storing and serving wine. Once you’ve cleared away the plates, relax in the mosaic-encrusted pool for spectacular views over Tuscany.

You're not just looking at one home here, but rather a grand total of six properties hidden away among green hills in the Umbrian countryside. With this huge guest count, it's a superb address for weddings, events or even just holidays with all the extended family.

There's a wealth of things to do here, from splashing about in the outdoor pool, enjoying lavish feasts off the barbecue or enjoying a little R&R in the wellness centre, which features another pool and a Turkish bath. Your host can help arrange fun experiences, including both cookery and yoga classes.

Somewhat unsurprisingly given the rural location, the living quarters lie on the rustic side of things and are heavy on natural materials, be that wooden beams or stone walls. We can't think of a cosier way of ending the day than by taking up residence next to the traditional fireplace, either.

Beyond the edge of the grounds, you'll find unspoilt countryside in Monte Peglia park and Meana forest – the latter of which was recently classified as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Lake Trasimeno is an hour's drive north if you fancy trying your hand at watersports, as well.

You May Now Kiss the Bride

Oh, Mamma Mia! Sitting on 37 acres of land filled with woods, olive groves and blooming flowers, this home comprises an old abbey and church that have been beautifully restored. From dining alfresco in the shade of the cobbled courtyard to strolling through the grounds with a glass of Chianti or gathering for an intimate evening under the warm light of the chandeliers, you're in for an unforgettable experience when you stay here. With stone walls, antique furniture and rustic details, every area of this home exudes character and charm. Start your day like a true Italian with a cup of espresso, before taking the short stroll to the pristine swimming pool to enjoy the backdrop of the surrounding Colvalenza hills. In the afternoon, retreat to the shaded portico of the restored farmhouse for a light lunch, then spend evenings watching the light change as the sun casts its last rays of the day on the sprawling grounds. The living area and kitchen are located on the top floor to maximise the views, treating you to panoramas wherever you decide to unwind. With stunning views across the Nature Reserve of Monte Rufeno, it’s easy to see why this home caught our eye. Meanwhile, by car, you'll also be well-positioned to go on excursions and visit some of the most beautiful places in northern Lazio (a land of volcanic lakes and centuries-old woods). Finally, for a slice of civilisation, head out to the local town of Corchiano, just a few kilometres away, to discover its independent shops and restaurants.
