Spend days floating in the sleek, modern swimming pool with its integrated Jacuzzi. Lunch can be taken at the round table on the lower terrace, while dinner can be set up on the upper terrace at the more formal spot. Art deco chandeliers in the luxe living room hark back to the villa’s origins and you can take in that sea view from the comfort of plush sofas. Parquet flooring intersects with the original salvaged mosaic. We love the light-filled kitchen with its green splashes of trailing botanica. La Casa nei Vigneti is a charming 18th-century farmhouse that has been renovated to its original architectural features with anti-seismic adaptation. The property consists of two structures, the main house and an annex, accommodating up to ten people. The house is set in an estate of about 50 hectares planted with vineyards and olive groves, located between the massifs of the Maiella and Gran Sasso and the Adriatic coast of the famous Trabocchi. The villa features a large open-plan area with vaulted ceilings, a cozy living area with fireplace, billiard room with sitting area, dining room connected to the kitchen with pantry, communicating with the pergola with wood oven. The property also includes a beautiful swimming pool in a panoramic position and a well-kept garden surrounding the house. It’s pure peace and quiet out here between the endless olive groves (extra virgin olive oil is the region’s speciality) and rolling hills covered in a patchwork of fields. It’s five kilometres to Monte Castello di Vibio with its ancient theatre and fifteen kilometres to the pretty town of Todi for restaurants and supermarkets.

The yard, where wheat was once threshed by hand, is now home to a smattering of chairs and tables for tipples in the sunshine. The porticoed upper terrace is the perfect spot for breakfast, or big barbecue lunches, with views of the 22-hectare estate. But the crowning glory of the gardens has to be that Roman-style swimming pool with its panoramic view of the countryside.

Accommodation is split between three separate buildings set around the courtyard. Two annexes have their own kitchenettes, living rooms and dining area so the group can spread out. The main villa is home to myriad antique-filled lounges and living rooms, including a striking main lounge set around the ancient hearth. Low, wood-beamed ceilings and old agricultural tools on the walls give that rustic farmhouse feel. Perched on its own hilltop and just twenty minutes from Saturnia's famous thermal springs, this traditional farmhouse is the place for you if you're really trying to get away from it all. With nothing to bother you apart from the sounds of the local wildlife and the twinkling of the stars at night, it's a rural retreat for nature lovers, artists and musicians. Here the order of the day is country walks, reading in the shade, whipping up delicious meals each evening and just generally enjoying the good life. There's no need to rush anything here.

But if, after breakfast on the terrace, those views across the iconic hills have motivated you to explore, that's easily done too. Head to the surrounding villages to see their Etruscan and Roman ruins, explore Montemerano – a twenty-five-minute drive away – and don't miss the nearby thermal springs. The views are breath-taking, and each home – built from traditional Tuscan stone – has its own furnished outside space. Here, you can cook on the stone barbecue and dine alfresco. There’s also a communal outdoor pool. You’ll need a car to explore – we recommend driving 20 kilometres to Saturnia’s hot springs.

You’ll find this place perched between two golf courses, and a short walk from the banks of serene Lake Monterosi and the town of the same name. This glorious villa is ready to welcome you on an idyllic Italian lakeside break. Based just a short drive from the blue waters of Bolsena Lake, this 20th-century Italian farmhouse has been respectfully renovated to keep the original features that give this home its unique character – with exposed beams of chestnut wood, dramatic round vaults and beautiful terracotta floors. We love the contemporary, minimalist style that they’ve blended in with the retro feel, making the home feel absolutely charming.

We absolutely love the dining area, where you can feast on Italian suppers of soup and risotto all together. There are two large living areas, giving you plenty of room to stretch out and relax – one featuring a lovely fireplace where you can cosy up in colder months. There’s even a ping pong table where you can challenge your loved ones to a table tennis game or two. Outside, you’ll find huge, lush expanses of green parkland, as well as a private pool where you can take a refreshing dip.

It's situated in a traffic-calmed area, 3 km from the centre of Collecorvino, offering a peaceful and quiet retreat. The house has a large shared garden with a barbecue for guests to enjoy. The upper ground floor features a large kitchen, 3 double bedrooms each with its own shower/bidet/WC, and an exit to the veranda with one french bed and two double beds. There's also a large terrace of 30 m2 with terrace furniture, balcony furniture, and 4 deck chairs providing guests with beautiful panoramic views of the valley. The property is conveniently located near several towns and cities such as Città S.Angelo and Pescara, which are only 10 km and 15 km away respectively. The sea is just a short distance of 10 km while skiing areas are approximately 40 km away. Please note that the owner lives in the same residence, has a dog, and does not accept any youth groups.

Overlooking the rolling hills of Italy’s green heart, this home delivers the ideal setting for a refreshing rural retreat. Alongside the beautiful views, you can enjoy a seasonal swimming pool, a large terrace with a barbecue and plenty of space to relax both inside and out. There is also a children’s playground and your host can help organise bike rentals as well as daily housekeeping. You will need a car to get around here, but it’s just a short drive to the centre of Todi (9 kilometres away), with hiking and cycle trails all within easy reach. 

Views of Serenity 

Out in the rolling hills of Umbria, this pretty stone villa embraces the quiet, provincial life. It’s surrounded by two hectares of forest, olive groves and fieldland and the private gardens are alive with lavender and fragrant Mediterranean herbs. Between the plant life, there are sunloungers on lawns, a children’s play park and plenty of shaded spots beneath trees to settle down with a good book. Perhaps the crowning glory of the gardens is the turquoise swimming pool, shimmering in the Umbrian sunshine. Though foodies may argue it’s the rustic summer kitchen with its brick-built grill, stone sink and prep area for long, lazy lunches in the loggia outside.

The home is split between the main villa and a separate annexe, and large groups will find myriad sitting rooms and lounges to spread out. Smoke-blackened hearths speak of the home’s history and sitting rooms beneath wooden ceilings are home to antique furniture and little libraries of holiday reads. There are two kitchens to choose from – one in the annexe and one in the main villa, and we love the annexe’s living room with its arched window looking out over the undulating Umbrian countryside.  

Should you wish to explore beyond the grounds, the pretty town of Todi is around three kilometres away. It’s picture-perfect, perched on a hilltop where rambling medieval streets house local trattoria and quaint little shops. This is where you can stock up on supplies at the supermarket too.

You're not just looking at one home here, but rather a grand total of six properties hidden away among green hills in the Umbrian countryside. With this huge guest count, it's a superb address for weddings, events or even just holidays with all the extended family.

There's a wealth of things to do here, from splashing about in the outdoor pool, enjoying lavish feasts off the barbecue or enjoying a little R&R in the wellness centre, which features another pool and a Turkish bath. Your host can help arrange fun experiences, including both cookery and yoga classes.

Somewhat unsurprisingly given the rural location, the living quarters lie on the rustic side of things and are heavy on natural materials, be that wooden beams or stone walls. We can't think of a cosier way of ending the day than by taking up residence next to the traditional fireplace, either.

Beyond the edge of the grounds, you'll find unspoilt countryside in Monte Peglia park and Meana forest – the latter of which was recently classified as a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. Lake Trasimeno is an hour's drive north if you fancy trying your hand at watersports, as well.
