It doesn’t get much better than that.

Dating back to the 11th-century, this watchtower is just as striking as its surroundings. Overlooking the Sibillini Mountains, you can admire the sweeping views while soaking in the hot tub or swimming in the pool. There is also an amphitheatre, beautiful gardens and a terrace with a barbecue – perfect for alfresco dining. Inside, the rooms unfold across two apartments and offer a unique sense of character. It’s worth noting there are a number of steps here so this may not be the best option for young children, but it’s the perfect setting for an adults-only escape. From here, you can follow hiking trails straight from the door, take the short drive to Amandola or adventure further afield towards the Adriatic coast. 

Mountain Watchtower

This beautiful home can be found on the Italian coast in a municipality of Ancona known as Sirolo. Whilst small – there are under four-thousand inhabitants – it has been continually praised, and it’s not surprising to see why once you visit. Paying homage to its rich history, it features a restored mediaeval town centre dotted with attractive restaurants and bars that you’ll probably end up frequenting. Once you’ve had lunch with a negroni cocktail, walk to any one of the many beaches to dip your toes into the Adriatic sea. 

Grab tiramisu on your way back home and settle around the dining table to devour it together – don’t forget to make a round of espresso to enjoy afterwards. When you’re done gushing about just how good that was, why not clear the table for a round or two of poker – loser gets the pizza for dinner. As the day winds down, settle into the couch with a good book and simply appreciate the natural warmth of the wooden rafters and exposed brick.

A seven-minute drive from two of the Adriatic coast’s glorious beaches, this Italian country villa sits in a blissfully quiet location. You’re overlooking rolling vineyards here, verdant green in summer and burnt orange and sunshine yellow in autumn. The perfect shores of Marcelli Beach and Numama Beach are each a seven-minute drive away, where loungers line the sand and the sea is crystal clear.

Back at the villa, you’ve got a shared swimming pool should you fancy a cooling dip in summer. Open up the double doors in the living room to the private brick patio, or the shaded veranda on the other side of the house. Inside, you’ve got the staples of Italian rusticana keeping things on theme; wooden ceilings and thick exposed stone walls. The kitchen is decidedly sleek and modern, and there are pops of character courtesy of gilded mirrors and Chinese dressers.

This 17th-century farmhouse is situated in the peaceful Marche countryside, just 70 kilometres from the sea and close to the villages of San Severino Marche and Torre del Parco. Offering plenty of space across the main house, plus a separate annexe that sleeps up to four guests, you'll have access to two kitchens and living areas here. Best of all, however, is the garden set-up featuring a swimming pool overlooking the landscape with a sun terrace and a jacuzzi hot tub. Although the home's traditional elements may not be to everyone's taste, modern furnishings present a comfortable space where guests can relax after days out discovering the Province of Macerata and surrounding areas.

Sit out on the balcony of this home and enjoy the view over the Umbrian Valley. The lush, green countryside is echoed in the home’s 3.5-hectare garden, where you’ll find an olive grove with 700 trees, alongside manicured lawns and terracotta terraces nearer the home. Breathe in the scent of oleander flowers and fig, plum and fruit trees as you make your way to the pergola framed by trailing plants – the perfect spot for an alfresco lunch cooked on the traditional wood oven. You’re likely to spend much of your time laying back on the sunbeds or swimming in the pool, but in the evenings, the glass gazebo is the perfect spot to enjoy a glass of local wine. Inside, as well as the main kitchen and grand living space, you’ll find a separate kitchen, sitting room and two bedrooms on the lower floor, making this a great space for two families or groups of friends.The historic town of Foligno is just 5km away, with Perugia a 40-minute drive and Siena only a little further in the distance.

Stays in this part of Italy come in all shapes and sizes but if you're looking for the grandeur of an imposing historic home then this stunning place on a cliff top certainly fits the bill. Lovingly converted from an old monastery into apartments, it's the perfect combination of character features and modern styling. Set on the first floor, you'll have two bright and airy levels with high ceilings, curved windows and plenty of natural wood. Joined by a contemporary staircase and featuring a mezzanine area that's used as a TV snug, it's a spacious home for up to six.

There's an open layout to the living space, where a sleek new kitchen and an antique dining table are the stars of the show, plus a bedroom and bathroom on the lower level and a huge master suite above. We love the ancient vaulted ceiling in this room in particular.

And for the full experience, take a stroll around the building's shared gardens, dotted with trees and grapevines. Overlooking the sea, you'll no doubt find yourselves out here morning and night. Just a walk or a short drive from the centre of Sirolo, and with a selection of beaches on your doorstep, it's a perfect base for adventures in Marche.

There's also a large terrace of 30 m2 with terrace furniture, balcony furniture, and 4 deck chairs providing guests with beautiful panoramic views of the valley. The property is conveniently located near several towns and cities such as Città S.Angelo and Pescara, which are only 10 km and 15 km away respectively. The sea is just a short distance of 10 km while skiing areas are approximately 40 km away. Please note that the owner lives in the same residence, has a dog, and does not accept any youth groups.

Lovingly restored, the house has been renovated in a traditional style that pays homage to its humble start as a farmhouse while showcasing the many great attributes it now holds. Spread over three floors, the home also has two separate apartments - one with a double bedroom and living space on the ground floor which can be accessed from both the main building and the dining terrace, and a small second apartment on the top floor with a sofa, two beds and a kitchenette. As vibrantly decorated inside as it is outside, there’s a rustic, cosy feel to this home that we just love with its antique furniture, bright washes of colour on the walls and exposed ceiling beams that create a warm atmosphere to feel right at home in. But it’s the outside where this sunny villa really shines - with several hundred square metres of land surrounding the villa, you’re treated to not only a beautiful, uninterrupted view of Le Marche countryside but also to a well-cared for, mature garden that features lavender, lilac, pink hydrangeas, oleander, roses, and fruit trees of all kinds. Needless to say, there’s plenty of space to spread out here as well as all sorts of peaceful spots to take a nap, read a book or enjoy an evening aperitivo. And the pool not only boasts some of the best views on the grounds but is large enough to host a whole family of novelty inflatables and is surrounded by a generous number of sun loungers so no one has to wait their turn to top of their tan.

Built towards the end of 1800 but boasting all modern comforts, it has a relaxed, homely interior with exposed brick walls, large windows and a beautiful open kitchen. The real star here though is the view. Sit in the shade of the ancient oak tree or on the loggia's comfy sofas and look out at the hilltops and verdant valleys that stretch out before you. The pool is pretty special too, with a teak deck and wide roman steps that are perfect for keeping cool while sunbathing.
