This beautiful home can be found on the Italian coast in a municipality of Ancona known as Sirolo. Whilst small – there are under four-thousand inhabitants – it has been continually praised, and it’s not surprising to see why once you visit. Paying homage to its rich history, it features a restored mediaeval town centre dotted with attractive restaurants and bars that you’ll probably end up frequenting. Once you’ve had lunch with a negroni cocktail, walk to any one of the many beaches to dip your toes into the Adriatic sea. 

Grab tiramisu on your way back home and settle around the dining table to devour it together – don’t forget to make a round of espresso to enjoy afterwards. When you’re done gushing about just how good that was, why not clear the table for a round or two of poker – loser gets the pizza for dinner. As the day winds down, settle into the couch with a good book and simply appreciate the natural warmth of the wooden rafters and exposed brick.

The perfect shores of Marcelli Beach and Numama Beach are each a seven-minute drive away, where loungers line the sand and the sea is crystal clear.

Back at the villa, you’ve got a shared swimming pool should you fancy a cooling dip in summer. Open up the double doors in the living room to the private brick patio, or the shaded veranda on the other side of the house. Inside, you’ve got the staples of Italian rusticana keeping things on theme; wooden ceilings and thick exposed stone walls. It’s worth noting there are a number of steps here so this may not be the best option for young children, but it’s the perfect setting for an adults-only escape. From here, you can follow hiking trails straight from the door, take the short drive to Amandola or adventure further afield towards the Adriatic coast.

Of course, it wouldn’t be an Italian getaway without a spot of sunbathing and this home has got plenty of outdoor space for fulfilling that very purpose. Slip into your swimming costume and go for a dip in the private pool, fire up the grill and dine alfresco on your favourite Italian dishes, or simply sit back and relax, letting the glorious ocean vistas wash over you as you sip a glass of the region’s best wine. Sun worshipers will love the welcoming terraces, alfresco dining spots are made for family get-togethers, and the private pool with panoramic views will be popular with all. If you can tear yourself away, it’s just ten minutes to Todi, full of mediaeval charm and authentic Italian eateries.

There are few things better in life than an infinity pool, but an infinity pool with a gorgeous view is definitely among them. This home in the heart of Umbria treats paddlers to a verdant panorama of rolling countryside and distant hilltops.

It's a truly rustic scene and you'll be glad to hear that the home itself slots nicely into the landscape. Traditional in style, you'll find high-ceilinged rooms filled with elegant wooden furnishings, antique decorations and floor tiling so shiny you can almost see your reflection in it. However, it's more modern where it matters, particularly the super-sleek bathrooms and equally glossy kitchens.

If you pay a visit during the warmer months, you'll most likely want to spend as many hours out in the open air as possible and that's more than easy to do here. As well as the aforementioned pool, guests also have a large garden at their disposal, plus a barbecue and alfresco table for when dinnertime rolls around.

There are plenty of attractions in the local area, too. Bevagna is only a kilometre away and its quaint streets are lovely to wander before stopping for dinner and digestifs in one of the restaurants. You don't have to travel much further to find more Umbrian gems either, from Assisi 25 kilometres away to Perugia only 44 kilometres away.

This 17th-century farmhouse is situated in the peaceful Marche countryside, just 70 kilometres from the sea and close to the villages of San Severino Marche and Torre del Parco. Offering plenty of space across the main house, plus a separate annexe that sleeps up to four guests, you'll have access to two kitchens and living areas here. Best of all, however, is the garden set-up featuring a swimming pool overlooking the landscape with a sun terrace and a jacuzzi hot tub. Although the home's traditional elements may not be to everyone's taste, modern furnishings present a comfortable space where guests can relax after days out discovering the Province of Macerata and surrounding areas.

Lovingly converted from an old monastery into apartments, it's the perfect combination of character features and modern styling. Set on the first floor, you'll have two bright and airy levels with high ceilings, curved windows and plenty of natural wood. Joined by a contemporary staircase and featuring a mezzanine area that's used as a TV snug, it's a spacious home for up to six.

There's an open layout to the living space, where a sleek new kitchen and an antique dining table are the stars of the show, plus a bedroom and bathroom on the lower level and a huge master suite above. We love the ancient vaulted ceiling in this room in particular.

And for the full experience, take a stroll around the building's shared gardens, dotted with trees and grapevines. Overlooking the sea, you'll no doubt find yourselves out here morning and night. Even though this charming villa sits out in the Umbrian countryside, you can see the medieval fortress of Asissi from the terrace. The winding streets packed with cafés, restaurants and ancient sights are just a five-minute drive away, yet your secluded abode is surrounded by fields and hills for peace and quiet. Plus, there's a traditional osteria serving Umbrian cuisine on the edge of the forest, just 1km from the villa – four bicycles are provided to get around. 

Within the grounds, you’ve got a sparkling swimming pool on the hillside, overlooking the valley below. While away the days floating on the lilo and drying off on the comfy, beanbag-style loungers. To the side of the house, you’ll find a wooden pergola with greenery creeping up the woodwork where alfresco dining comes courtesy of a wood-fired oven.
