There are a lot of things we like about this lodge in the Alpine village of Cortina d'Amprezzo, but we'd be lying if we didn't single out the rather lovely view from the balcony as our standout highlight – from this spot, it's possible to gaze out over the locale's rooftops and dramatically beautiful mountains beyond.

Back inside, the interior design is as rustic as you might imagine, with an abundance of wood in everything from the walls and floors to the furnishings and finishes. A few pieces of artwork and natural decorative items lend a little character, while the horseshoe-shaped kitchen has enough space for cooking up hearty dinners when you're fresh off the slopes.

Ah yes, skiing – there's plenty of opportunity for winter sports here, with lifts up to the slopes lying within walking distance. Even closer, there are restaurants, shops and a museum within the town to explore.

Just an hour's drive from Venice, this hilltop villa offers panoramic countryside views. While the traditional decor and antique furniture may not be to everyone's tastes, we think the interiors are charming in their own right. But with three floors and steep steps here, it will be difficult for guests who struggle with stairs. The top-floor main suite is one of our favourites – we can't resist the wooden ceilings or that stone bathtub – but the sun-kissed terrace and private pool are close seconds. Day trips are easy with Treviso and Padova within driving distance, but if you'd prefer to stay closer to home, Asolo is a twenty-minute walk away and has artisan shops and restaurants.

We won't lie, we've seen bigger kitchens and bedrooms, but we'd be willing to overlook this, particularly as the lifts to both Tofana and Faloria ski slopes lie so close to the front door. Oh, and did we mention that there's a sauna to warm up in afterwards? Well, there is.

Up to four people can be comfortably accommodated here, with two of the guests choosing between either a double sofa bed or two pull-down bunk beds that emerge from the wall, with two further guests in the tranquil main bedroom.

A compact kitchen contains everything you might need to whip up apres-ski sustenance sat around the dining table before exploring the traffic-free streets in the centre of the resort, a couple of kilometres up the road – with a free ski bus linking the town. Interestingly, the area has held duty-free status since the 16th century, meaning your money goes that bit further.

The area is fast establishing itself as one of the most exciting resorts in Italy and is set to host some of the 2026 Winter Olympics. Easily accessible slopes for all levels of snow sports enthusiast make Livigno a fun option for families and mixed-ability groups.

Living Livigno Loca

This stunning villa is spread across three levels and offers a breathtaking view of the pool and lake. The entrance level features an atrium and French windows with a balcony overlooking the pool. The living room is furnished with two comfortable two-seater sofas. Moving upstairs, you'll find a luxurious master bedroom with a double bed, air conditioning, a walk-in wardrobe, and a private bathroom complete with a double sink, toilet, bidet, and Jacuzzi. There are also two additional bedrooms, one with a single bed and the other with a double sofa bed. Descending the stairs leads you to the ground floor where you'll find a spacious fully equipped kitchen with direct access to the porch and private swimming pool. A separate bathroom and laundry area are also located on this floor. Additionally, there is an annexed space that includes a double bedroom, another fully equipped kitchen, and a private bathroom. The villa offers smart TV, WiFi, and two private outdoor parking spaces. With its exceptional amenities and beautiful surroundings, this villa is the perfect retreat for your holiday getaway.

It’s on the outskirts of Livigno where gondolas and ski lifts await to whisk you up the mountainside. A heated ski locker can keep your ski boots and salopettes warm and dry, ready for another day on the powder. In summer, the hiking trails up into the Alps reward with stunning views and you can fuel up for big walks with a view of an Alpine meadow, thanks to a stone-built barbecue and dining area in the vast garden. Even in winter, the first-floor balcony catches the sunshine – perfect for toasting the mountains with a sundowner. 

Heading inside, the first thing that caught our attention was the picture-frame window by the dining table, framing the mountain view like a work of art. The sitting room is tucked in a cosy little wood-clad corner for that cabin-chic feel and long windows let the sunlight stream in. A sleek black kitchen hides everything you need for apres-ski meals and morning coffees before the slopes. Bedrooms are tucked beneath wooden ceilings across both floors and the added bonus is the steam room for sore muscles.
