With a large kitchen and stylish dining room, there is little reason to venture into the outside world, but if you do, we highly recommend Southwest Alentejo and Vicentine Coast Natural Park. Reconnect with family and friends over billiards or with a home-cooked feast; there are plenty of lounging spaces for the ultimate privacy. The more athletic among you can have a game of tennis at the on-site court. This home is located between Lisbon and Lagos. Make sure you explore the dramatic beaches that make up the Algarve coast.

If we were to tell you of a hideaway that sits in the middle of twelve hectares of lush pine forest in rural Comporta, you might imagine a certain type of home and we're willing to wager that it doesn't look anything like this wonderfully modern residence.

Not only does the boxy white exterior look visually striking from the outside, but this sense of awe will continue as you step through the glass doors. Our favourite space is the double-height living, which is flooded with natural light from the copious number of windows that line the walls. However, the modern brown kitchen and equally glossy bathrooms are sure to take your breath away, as well. The design throughout feels cohesive, united by a preference for clean lines, sleek surfaces and chic minimalism.

Given the agreeable climate that this corner of the Iberian peninsula enjoys, you'll likely want to spend as many hours outdoors as possible and that's easy to do here. The long infinity swimming pool is both wonderfully refreshing when the midday sun is at its highest and made all the more relaxing by the heady scent of fragrant herbs and vegetation that grow around the sides. There are plenty of terraces and balconies on which to take a seat and do nothing more strenuous than soak up the rays, but you can also find a tennis court if you fancy a match or two.

Although there's a strong sense of tranquillity from the isolated position, you don't have to venture far to find the Portuguese coastline. Carvalhal and Pego beaches can be reached in ten minutes or so in the car, and there are a few restaurants and bars to be found close to these seaside spots.

History buffs will enjoy seeing the Roman ruins at Cetobriga, while golfers might choose to stay closer to home – Troia Golf is a five-minute drive from the villa. This is truly a holiday home with something for everyone – you’ll never want to leave.

Despite the home’s recent renovation in 2021, the traditional touches of a terracotta tiled roof, original gas burner, and Portuguese-style tiles were kept. It’s been beautifully done to suit both a modern and traditional preference, respecting its roots while providing a contemporary level of comfort. The garden is partially decked and partially sand, surrounded by greenery, really making you feel like you’re on your own island. While away the days reading by the heated pool, occasionally taking a dip in the waters, and watching the little ones make sand castles in the garden. If the sand has you in the mood to go to the beach, you’re just a five-minute walk from Praia de Pego. Or, you can use the villa’s bikes to get there in no time, while freely exploring more of the beautiful area and popping into the nearby villages. After all that action, a crisp glass of wine straight from your wine fridge will taste even better. We struggle to find a better feeling than enjoying fresh barbecue alfresco, sipping on a nice glass of wine, and enjoying each other’s company, while the fiery sun sets.
