The villa is bright and stylish, with decor and finishes that would be at home in an interior design magazine. It’s beautiful, with splashes of colour adding warmth and fun. You’ll wake up to feel the sunshine on your pillow, tempting you to head through the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors outside to the terrace. Sip an espresso as you breathe in the warm, sweet-scented air. 

The outside space has been as thoughtfully considered as the house. There’s something for everyone, whether you’re a sun-worshipper or prefer to lounge in the shade. Table tennis will keep the big kids entertained, while you cool off in the refreshing solar-heated pool. There’s a gym inside, too, so you can easily get a workout in – though we might be more tempted by a yoga session on the terrace. 

When you want to explore further afield, you might stroll to Galé beach, or perhaps hop in the car to visit Troia. History buffs will enjoy seeing the Roman ruins at Cetobriga, while golfers might choose to stay closer to home – Troia Golf is a five-minute drive from the villa. Inside the villa, the simple, minimalist design lets the natural wood do the talking. We can’t get enough of the wall lined by wooden shelves, accentuating its angles and adding an artistic flair. And while some modern homes don’t always have that warmth that makes us relax and feel comfortable, the fireplace, warm-toned light fixtures, and plush sofa see to it that you will. The wood-lined wall guides you to the kitchen and with a huge island, top-notch appliances, and surfaces made of Estremoz stone – it’s a chef’s dream. 

The home is a special one, but we imagine you’ll be spending most of your time making the most of the incredible outdoors. The garden is partially decked and partially sand, surrounded by greenery, really making you feel like you’re on your own island. While away the days reading by the heated pool, occasionally taking a dip in the waters, and watching the little ones make sand castles in the garden. If the sand has you in the mood to go to the beach, you’re just a five-minute walk from Praia de Pego. Or, you can use the villa’s bikes to get there in no time, while freely exploring more of the beautiful area and popping into the nearby villages. After all that action, a crisp glass of wine straight from your wine fridge will taste even better. We struggle to find a better feeling than enjoying fresh barbecue alfresco, sipping on a nice glass of wine, and enjoying each other’s company, while the fiery sun sets.

Surrounded by dense Mediterranean vegetation, there's an enormous sense of privacy and tranquillity at this address in Comporta. It's certainly not hard to imagine long summer afternoons spent gliding gracefully through the swimming pool, catching rays on the lounger or dining under the shade of the verandah.

You will eventually have to head inside at some point, but you won't be disappointed when you do. The first thing that will strike you is just how bright the interior is, with natural light streaming in through the floor-to-ceiling windows. We also like the emphasis on natural materials in many of the furnishings and decorative items, which feels in keeping with the coastal location.

When you want to pay a visit to the seaside, there are long stretches of golden beaches along the Portuguese coastline that start from as close as 2km away. A little closer to home, you'll find restaurants and bars in the local town of Lagoa Formosa.
