Housed in a historic building in Faro’s centre, you’ll have plenty to see and do with shops, restaurants and boats for beach trips and tours nearby. A communal pool is on hand to ease you into the holiday lifestyle, and while the apartment isn’t the biggest in our collection, it’s spread over two floors with a bedroom on each one. Early risers might be best off in the mezzanine space, however, due to its lack of curtains. But for those looking for a fuss-free coastal stay, this home ticks a lot of boxes.

This charming apartment is in the heart of Faro, with a communal pool and a private balcony. Space is limited throuhgout the home, so we recommend packing light, especially if you're planning on shopping trips. If you're travelling as a group of more than four, two guests will sleep on the sofa bed up on the mezzanine, which doubles as the living room. The location is delightfully central though, with Faro's marina and plenty of restaurants and shops within walking distance.

Spend the day in the sea or on the green and when you need a supply run, find stores and restaurants only five minutes away in Santa Barbara de Nexe.

Back home, we suggest barefoot explorations of every room so you can feel the cool concrete under your feet as you admire the textures and shades of the space. From the dining table, as you nurse a cup of coffee, you can watch the sun filter in through the window and cast geometric shadows across the room.

When the day starts to warm, access the pool via either of the steps and enjoy the bite of cool water against hot skin. To warm back up, you can head onto the rooftop terrace to soak up the Portuguese sun with a good vintage of wine.

This dreamy villa, surrounded by greenery, offers you a lush escape from hectic city life. It's located in the new Quinta Verde resort, close to Quinta do Lago – one of Portugal's premier golf resorts. 

As you'd anticipate from such an upmarket location, the home is glorious. It certainly makes quite the first impression thanks to a full-height entrance hall, complete with a chandelier and grand marble staircase leading up to the main en-suite bedroom. Stood beneath the chandelier, you'll find your eye drawn to the living room and pool area beyond – perfect for a refreshing swim at any time of the day. 

Despite its regal and luxurious air, the villa also manages to feel homey and relaxed. This is a place where a family can dine, lounge and chat together for hours, enjoying the Algarve's year-round sunshine. At the end of the day, make your way to any of the four bedrooms. Each one feels as though it was tailor-made for pampering and relaxation.

You'll be staying just fifteen kilometres from Faro, so you can easily drop by for a spot of sightseeing, and if you want to nip over to Spain for a day trip, the national parks near the port city of Huelva are a little over an hour away.

Some of the furnishings are a little dated, but the views will have your attention from the moment of arrival. There’s also a private swimming pool, games and a sweet terrace – perfect for sunset drinks. The bedrooms are all located on the ground floor, making it an ideal spot for families as well as those with reduced mobility. From here, it’s just a three-minute drive to the village of Santa Barbara de Nexe, while Quinta do Lago beach is just a twenty-minute drive away.

With six luxurious bedrooms, four calm-inspiring bathrooms, an opulent 70s-style living area complete with a retro-feeling full bar and finished in complementary tones of teal and copper, as well as another reception area where you'll find brightly coloured furnishings and cool pop-art style pieces adorning the walls, this home reminds us of a Bond villain's secret bolt-hole. 

Equipped with an array of gadgetry that would give Goldfinger a run for his money, the quirky kitchen boasts countertop grilling stations on a central circular island that looks as though it was lifted straight out of a space station. There is also a funky corner booth that's perfect for sitting down with a cup of coffee and the morning paper. 

Step outside and you'll find a huge garden centred around a stunning swimming pool, given an extra layer of grandeur courtesy of the pillars that surround it on three sides and around which the house wraps itself. With plenty of shaded seating areas as well as sun loungers and an authentic wood-fired churrasco, the garden provides the perfect place to relax and unwind – until it's time to entertain, party, and socialise. It's giving us major 1970s Palm Springs vibes, and we can just imagine the scene being immortalised in a Slim Adams print. 

In a family-friendly neighbourhood by the sea, the home is located 900 metres from the sandy beach of Praia do Cavalo Preto sand beach and a kilometre from the fantastically golden sands of Forte Novo. In the local area, you will have your pick of restaurants serving everything from traditional chicken piri-piri and other regional specialties made with fresh local produce, to Asian fusion, and seafood pulled from the waters around the town.

In the pleasant market town of Loulé, this apartment is ideal for a family seeking an authentic Algarve escape. The patio was the first thing that caught our eye – with its barbecue, it's perfect for alfresco meals in the shade. Talking of eating, there's also the well-equipped kitchen, and there's plenty of eateries within walking distance too. At capacity, two guests will be using the living area's sofa bed, so space might be a little tight. Luckily, Loulé offers plenty of reasons to be out exploring, and you can take a bus directly to the coast in less than an hour.

If you’re searching for a laid-back stay in Quinta do Lago, this family-friendly home delivers. From the peaceful garden to the private pool and games room, every detail has been considered to bring warmth and joy to your stay. There's also a large terrace with a music system – setting the tone for evening drinks and alfresco dining. Maid service is included three days a week, and your host can help organise a range of extras like children’s amenities and pool heating. You will need a car to get around here, but it’s just 5 kilometres to Garrao Beach and Almancil, putting you within striking distance of the ocean.

There’s a certain serenity to this elegant villa. Maybe it’s the calm colour scheme or the secluded location in pine-scented Vale do Lobo. Either way, you’ll find yourself in relaxation mode from the second you arrive. 

The ample living space is filled with natural light, with doors opening onto the terrace for that indoor/outdoor flow. There’s a kitchen with a breakfast bar, a sumptuous corner sofa to fit the whole family, and a top-notch Sonos sound system that runs seamlessly throughout. 

Although it’s lovely inside, you’ll probably spend most of your time in the mature garden. You’re spoilt for choice for places to chill out, so take your pick. Will it be the poolside sun loungers, the alfresco lounge area, or the shady hammock for a quiet moment out of the Algarve sun? 

Beach lovers will be in heaven here, with over 2km of golden sands on the rolling Atlantic, and if you’re a golf fan, you’re in luck, with two championship golf courses on your doorstep. Come evening, Vale do Lobo’s squares come alive with buzzing cocktail bars and excellent restaurants, but once you’ve come back to the villa, poured yourself an aperitif and slipped into the private Jacuzzi, you may find it impossible to tear yourself away.
