Occupying a prime position on the Algarve, this sleek and stylish one-bedroom apartment has been recently renovated by your host, transforming it into a perfect for a romantic couple's getaway, or for the solo traveller looking to experience the best of southern Portugal.

The apartment is situated within a family-friendly resort, just a short walk from the picturesque former fishing village of Carvoeiro. With its sandstone sea cliffs and horseshoe-shaped bay, it's easy to see why it's regarded as one of the Algarve's best beaches. Beyond the beach, plenty of visitors to the area make the short trip to the remarkable Benagil Cave by boat or head along the coast to take in the finest natural scenery the Algarve has to offer, hiking the clifftop Sete Vales trail.

However, if you don't feel like venturing far, extensive on-site facilities mean there's not much need to leave. With a vast outdoor pool, tennis courts, several restaurants and even a diving school, the scene is set for a restorative getaway with your significant other.

Ceramic Animal

Promising sea views over a leafy landscape, this villa is within walking distance of Armação de Pera's sandy shores, shops, and eateries. If you're not dining alfresco by the pool or playing table tennis after an adventure, this home offers a contemporary space for indoor hangouts, brightened by large-scale windows. There's also a roof terrace with a jacuzzi, available to book as an extra treat. As for exploring the Algarve, we recommend hiring a car to squeeze the most out of your time here.

The Green Horizon

Offering far-reaching sea views and situated just a short walk from the sandstone cliff-backed beach, this central Carvoeiro is superbly situated to make the most of a sun-soaked break to the breathtaking Algarve coast.

Wake up each morning to the sound of the waves lapping at the shore, as you sip a coffee on the spacious balcony out front and watch the town come to life around you. Step back through the sliding doors and you'll find a recently renovated living space and kitchen that is both casual and contemporary – the perfect match for your beachside setting. 

In the bedroom, an abundance of storage space helps maintain the relaxed minimalist style, while a vast super king-size bed guarantees a comfortable night's sleep. In addition, floor-to-ceiling sliding doors offer easy access to the balcony.

The former fishing village of Carvoeiro boasts one of the finest beaches along this picturesque stretch of the coast. However, there's more on offer than soaking up the sun on its golden sands. Those with a sense of adventure might like to embark on a boat trip to the magnificent Benagil cave. Alternatively, why not rise early and set out on the 12km out-and-back Sete Vales trail, with its spectacular clifftop coastal vistas.

La Petite Sardine

Situated on a resort, this one-bedroom townhouse offers up views of the countryside and Monchique mountains. Ideal for a couples retreat, you’ll find everything you need here, with the outside terraces a real treat – perfect for relaxing on with a glass of wine. With a communal pool, tennis courts, mini golf and an on-site restaurant, you won’t need to go far to entertain yourself in the Portuguese sun. If it’s the coast you seek, the beaches of Benagil and Marinha are just a short drive away.  

On the Sun

This charming farmhouse, nestled in the Portuguese countryside, promises a peaceful base for making memories with your loved ones. Beautifully restored, it has just the right mix of old and new – retaining its character, but with all the modern conveniences you’d want in a home-away-from-home. Wander inside, and the home is light and bright, with comfortable furnishings and rich brown beams stretching overhead. In summer, it provides the perfect respite from the heat of the sun, while in winter, your feet will stay nice and toasty with the welcome underfloor heating.

Our favourite spot has to be the outdoor space. It’s easy to imagine days spent here, enjoying the cool water of your sparkling pool as the sun warms your skin. Perhaps you’d prefer to stretch out on a sun lounger, armed with a cocktail and a good book, as you listen to the delighted chatter of your children playing on the swing nearby. If an afternoon siesta is calling your name, climb onto your hammock for a little doze as the breeze drifts gently by. 

If you can tear yourself away from the relaxing vibe of this home, there’s so much to enjoy in the local area. Head north, and you’ll find the historic town of Silves. If the beach is what you seek, drive south and you can enjoy the white, sandy beaches of Armaçao de Pera. Just the spot to prop up one of the beach bars or enjoy a spot of lunch. 

Charm & Soul

Sitting pretty close to the Algarve's celebrated coastline, this villa treats guests to a panoramic view of the region's white rooftops and the Mediterranean Sea from the terrace up on the third floor – and this isn't the only bit of outside space. Head back down to the ground level and you'll find a peaceful private garden that leads out to larger communal grounds and a shared swimming pool.

Although you'll undoubtedly be spending a vast amount of your time here outside, you'll like what you see when you eventually have to head indoors. There's a traditional edge to the design, what with the terracotta tiles underfoot and the colourful artwork hung on whitewashed walls, but other parts feel way more contemporary – the bright and airy kitchen and bathrooms, in particular. 

When you want to see a little more of the local region, the local town of Armação de Pêra can be easily reached on foot and offers a 6km-long stretch of bay, plus lots of restaurants and nightlife. Further along the coastline, the destinations of Albufera and Faro, as well as a huge number of golf courses, lie not too far away by car.

Hugs & Kisses

Stylish interiors, a host of high-end amenities, and direct beach access – you'll know you're in for a special stay from the moment you arrive. Drop off your bags and make a beeline for your private rooftop terrace, complete with sun loungers, a dining area and stunning sea views. Mornings begin out here, clutching an iced coffee and a pastel de nata as you decide whether it's a relaxing day by the pool or a fun-filled trip to the golden sand of Praia da Rocha, just 500m away. 

The sleek sliding glass doors set up seamless indoor-outdoor living, bathing the home in natural sunlight. Stepping inside, you'll find a plush island kitchen with a sociable breakfast bar that means you can cook for your guests while chatting over a glass of wine. Traditional azulejo-tiled flooring and duck egg blue walls create a soothing space to relax, while the bedrooms are just as modern and peaceful – there's even a dedicated desk area for those working from home. 

When you're not working or simply basking in the blissful atmosphere of your sun-soaked terrace, head downstairs for a refreshing dip in the communal pool. Alternatively, keep up your weekly fitness routine with a swim in the resort's indoor pool or a workout in the well-equipped gym. Later, don your finest tennis whites on the shared courts as the sun goes down, before rustling up a grilled supper on the barbecue patio.

If you can peel yourself away from this light-filled apartment and the resort's fabulous amenities, take some time to discover the old port city of Portimão just a short drive away. As evening draws in, we recommend a trip to the old marina for dinner – you'll find a sprinkling of waterfront restaurants and cocktail bars lining the harbour. 

Portimão Promises

Effortlessly chic and perched high over the Atlantic Ocean, this home gets full marks from us. Not only is every inch beautifully decorated, but we adore the focus on sustainability – think solar panels, recycled materials and wastewater systems. The furniture (including the wardrobes) is constructed with repurposed wood, the plates and dishes made by local Portuguese craftsmen and the gorgeous white marble countertop is from Alentejo, so there's an emphasis on local products, too.

Besides its eco-credentials, we love how sleek this home is. Several elegant living spaces seamlessly flow into sophisticated terraces with plenty of comfortable seating and breathtaking views. Jump into the immaculate pool for a refreshing swim, then hang out on the sun loungers and revel in the fact that you don't need to do anything but relax. Come dinnertime, rustle up a meal in the bright kitchen and dine alfresco, watching the sunset over the water as you share a bottle of Portuguese wine. Sounds like heaven, right?

If you want to explore the area, nearby Carvoeiro has plenty of charming restaurants, bars and picturesque beaches. Praia da Marinha is a ten-minute drive, Praia da Benagi is reachable in thirteen, while the clifftop boardwalk and seaside eateries in town are just fifteen minutes away.

For What It’s Earth

At the foot of Castelo de Ferragudo, this former carriage house is now a contemporary retreat in the heart of town. Not only are you close to restaurants, nightlife and shops in the city centre, but you're also a mere two-minute walk from Praia Grande beach. You'd never be able to tell this home's history from the sleek and modern interiors. There's plenty of room, but we think it's a tight fit for all sixteen guests – especially since some of the bedrooms are on the smaller side. Outside is a sparkling pool and alfresco dining space. Why not kick your holiday up a notch and hire a private chef to do all the cooking for you?

The Petal

Admire the aquamarine sea and blue hues in this amazing villa. The roof terrace is where you'll be spending most of your time, with a gas barbeque, bar, and a pool, what else could you want? Spend your evenings relaxing on the terrace, drinking wine and tucking into the traditional Portuguese cuisine.  Put your bartender hat on and practice making cocktails at the rooftop bar, and sip the night away listening to your favourite songs. 

The living room boasts a balcony that has a gorgeous view of the ocean, giving you ample opportunity to see the plethora of boats that sail past daily. You'll find two beaches nearby, so you can spend your days in the sun with the sand between your toes. There's also a variety of eateries in the area, so take your pick and dine out in style.

Aqua Reflections

Enjoy a charming stay at this stylish townhouse, based on the western side of Lagoa in Portugal. This peaceful abode features serene interiors, together with gorgeous outdoor areas – along with all the mod cons necessary to make your stay convenient and comfortable. We are particularly impressed with the sunny roof terrace, complete with loungers and sun umbrellas – creating a private little paradise where you can kick back and relax.

Start each day with a delicious Portuguese breakfast of fresh breads, cheeses and meats, and tuck in at your trendy breakfast bar. Spend the afternoon sunbathing on your roof terrace with a glass of Prosecco from the wine cooler, or enjoying the shade on your hidden courtyard with a good book. As the evening rolls in, gather round your wood burner fireplace or cosy up on the sofa with a movie on the TV.

You’re perfectly located to explore Lagoa from your little townhouse, with the Lady in Red gallery being a short journey away, as well as lots of bars and restaurants right on your doorstep. Or, venture a little further out to see the Benagil caves, and take a kayaking tour around this jaw-dropping nature spot.

The Mediterranean Townhouse

Promising panoramic ocean views, this palatial villa stands proudly on the golden cliffs above Praia da Marinha. Drive through the gated entrance and delight in the grandeur of this historic estate, where a private path escorts you down to the magical beach.

Notice how the white-washed exterior contrasts completely with the dark-wooded design downstairs. Each room is simply bursting with character, allowing you to wake up in a sumptuous bedroom before enjoying an alfresco breakfast on the patio.

Surrounded by idyllic garden paths and pretty flower beds, there are Roman steps leading you into a large pool – perfect for summertime swimming. After a snooze in the hammock, why not grill piri-piri chicken on the barbecue?

When it's time to explore, head inland and see the sculptures at Sand City, or rent a boat and admire the Algarve from the water. Showcasing religious art and wood carvings, you'll love gathering your family in this formal dining room – you can even arrange to have a Portuguese feast cooked for you.
