It's pretty clear what was at the top of the list for the architect that designed this intriguing home in Comporta – natural light and lots of it. Enormous walls of glass line the sides of the home and the dazzlingly white interior design only accentuates this plentiful natural asset. These huge windows also have the added benefit of looking out to peaceful views of local rice fields, too.

As you can probably begin to tell, it's a rather relaxing address. There are lots of spots in the tropical garden in which to appreciate the local tranquillity, whether on the back of a lounger or while dining alfresco on the table. Whenever the temperature takes a dip, you can head back inside and cosy up next to the contemporary fireplace in the lounge.

When it comes to seeing a little more of the locale, there are vast swathes of golden beaches covering the Portuguese coastline that start from as close as 1.5km away, while the nearest town is only 2km away for when you're in need of restaurants and shops.

This wonderful home is the kind you’ll fondly daydream about when you’re back at home, listening to drizzle patter against the windows. The villa is bright and stylish, with decor and finishes that would be at home in an interior design magazine. It’s beautiful, with splashes of colour adding warmth and fun. You’ll wake up to feel the sunshine on your pillow, tempting you to head through the floor-to-ceiling glass sliding doors outside to the terrace. With children's singles in bedrooms three and four, this home is better suited for family holidays than friend groups. Fancy a treat? Hire a buggy and ride by the rice paddies. While the nearest restaurant is 300 metres away, you can have a professional chef take care of dinner.

The Stone Blue

If you like quirky, you’ll love this bohemian-inspired holiday home, filled with colour and vibrancy – though the kitchen follows a more minimalist theme, with white cupboards and surfaces, so you won’t need your sunglasses on all of the time. This home is distributed over three houses, with the living room and kitchen in one building and then three bedrooms in a guest house and another bedroom in the pool house.
