Nestled in a quiet residential street in Príncipe Real, Afterglow is a great option for visitors wanting to be somewhere central but with a peaceful, calm atmosphere. The living room is open to the kitchen and dining room and gets great natural light. We loved the views you get over the city’s rooftops – but take note, the view is earned by walking up a steep street. The apartment is comfortable and it’s in great condition, making it a lovely place to come back to after a long day of pounding the pavement.

Tucked away in a typical street in Alfama, this apartment offers a quiet escape in one of Lisbon's most emblematic neighbourhoods. The building is on a steep hill, but the good news is, you're halfway up to the Castle already (it’s a two-minute walk away). Heading downhill takes you to the fado bars and local restaurants of the old quarter in just a few footsteps. Inside the apartment is a calming haven away from the city noise. A dash of polished cement here, wooden textures there, and an intimate bedroom that ensures a good night's sleep – the modern design works wonders with the old surroundings. It’s not often we highlight a bathroom, but this one with its wall of ferns and Japanese zen-like grey walls feels a bit special.

This fuss-free apartment in Lisbon’s Estrela neighbourhood will suit those looking to explore the city away from the tourist crowds. Sitting on a calm street and boasting a sunny patio garden complete with outdoor seating and a barbecue, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to soak up the sun from your pad. The decor inside isn’t the most inspiring and at capacity, two guests will need to share the sofa bed in the living area. But for a practical base with decent transport links to the city’s main sights, this home hits the mark.
