Tucked away on a residential street in Alfama, this home is a triple threat of charm, location, and views. This is a cosy haven with a simple design aesthetic that focuses on functionality and comfort – but we really liked the French doors and the hardwood steps that take you up to the attic bedroom. We were torn between the quaint communal terrace at the back and the spectacular river views from the living room. In the end, we decided to split our time between the two. Want to discover the real Lisbon? Slip on your most comfortable trainers and get lost in the charming labyrinthine streets of Alfama. If you want to save your legs, two of the city's most iconic tram routes pass within five minutes of your hillside home. Music lovers should head to the Museu do Fado, a three-minute walk, while history buffs will enjoy the impressive Castelo de São Jorge and Sé de Lisboa, both ten minutes away.

Walk the winding streets of this neighbourhood to immerse yourself in the culture and architecture of Lisbon. When the hills get a bit too much, you can always hop onto one of the iconic trams as they weave their way through the city. You're four minutes' walk from the breathtaking city views of Miradouro de São Pedro, a six-minute walk from the opulent interior of the Church of Sao Roque, and six minutes from the mournful sounds of fado that accompany dinner at legendary Lisbon restaurant, Adega Machado. At the end of a day of exploring, retreat to your sleek and modern home, where traditional features harmoniously coexist with minimalist modern furniture – it's a stark contrast to the art-daubed cobbled streets below. We love the natural light and the roomy bedrooms, which make getting up in the morning an absolute pleasure.

Like its lovely downstairs neighbour, Quarta Bicicleta is one of the nicest homes in this part of Alfama – and trust us, we've seen many. The location at the foot of the São Jorge Castle will make sightseeing effortless, and the terrace has some pretty sweet views of the river too. With a coherent modern design and high quality furniture, the only thing we can really fault this home for are the slanting ceilings (if you're tall), and the wall art might not be to everyone's taste.

There's more to Alfama than exploring medieval architecture and its fado legacy. Its maze-like streets are a joy to get lost in, and the nearby waterfront is a popular nightlife spot, so make sure to pack a pair of shoes for every occasion. This apartment stands out for its minimalist modern design in this historic area. There's a lot of space for you to enjoy, filled only by a few select pieces of furniture, which sets you up for a relaxing stay without lots of clutter around. There's a bedroom balcony, which isn't huge, but it does offer a brilliant view of the Sé Cathedral – which offers a taste of what the city has in store. So, lace up your trainers and set out to explore the city's seven hills. You're only a few minutes from the impressive Praça do Comércio and the grid-like shopping streets of downtown Baixa. If you fancy exploring further afield, then you're close to the Sé stop of the iconic 28 tram.

Wonderfully bright and designed with a keen eye for detail, this beautiful apartment in Lisbon’s scenic Mouraria neighbourhood is the ideal base for those wanting to be within easy walking distance of the city’s best sights. From the bathroom’s pretty tiles to the mezzanine bedroom’s wall and ceiling, there’s a Mediterranean vibe here in the sky-coloured hues that feel as laid-back as it does chic. We love the French doors that open out onto a Juliet balcony – ideal for perching with your morning coffee while admiring your street’s azulejo-clad buildings. We’re big fans, too, of the nods to Portuguese traditions, like the cork around the bathroom’s sink and the kitchen’s blue and white tiles. Outside of your home, you're just a thirteen-minute walk from the Alfama and its São Jorge Castle, the Santa Justa Lift is a fifteen-minute walk and Praça do Comércio is a twenty-minute stroll from your home. With countless restaurants, shops and some of the city’s oldest fado bars in your neighbourhood too, you’re all set to soak up the city’s culture, food and history in style.

Set on a quiet street lined with typical Portuguese buildings, it's easy to forget you're so close to the bustling centre and waterfront of Lisbon. It's an excellent choice for culture seekers after a practical pad that doesn't compromise on style, with convenience and modern comfort in mind. 

The flat is decorated in a charming Lisbon style, combining natural materials, homespun furnishings and a splash of warm colours to create a stylish home. The bedroom is kept minimal with crisp white linens and pretty prints adorning the walls, so you'll have no trouble getting a good night's sleep here. There's a sleek kitchen with traditional azulejo tiles and a bright dining space for inviting guests over and feasting together. Natural light bounces off the wood floors, creating a cool living space to rest weary legs and unwind with a glass of Rioja. 

Outside, you'll find you're right in the thick of things, with lively Praça do Comércio on your doorstep (three minutes walk), plenty of trendy restaurants and hip bars nearby, and the Sé de Lisboa only a five-minute stroll away. With a fabulous central location and set in a renovated period building, this home is simple, smart, and a little bit sassy. Painted all white, with shuttered windows and warm wood floors, it's a traditional apartment with some far from traditional wall art (we see you, Julia Roberts). A bright living area boasts a particularly squashy corner sofa and a modern dining table with chairs for up to six. The kitchen is sleek and modern, with all you could need to whip up light meals, and the bedrooms are spacious and full of natural light. You'll even have a narrow balcony here, on which to sip coffee, read a newspaper and people watch on the street below. On the lower side of Alfama, you'll get to enjoy a view of the Sé Cathedral, and all the city's sights are within walking distance – we recommend you start your tour at the nearby Praça do Comércio.

If you're quite particular about location, then this apartment is the place for you. Situated inside a period building on Rua de Santa Justa, you'll be able to spot Arco da Rua Augusta from the living room, and walk to Elevador de Santa Justa in just one minute – it doesn't get much more convenient than that. Beautifully restored and filled with light, this home is as stylish as it is comfortable. We especially loved the kitchen's bright yellow tiles, where you can prepare a delicious meal using fresh ingredients to share at the sleek glass table. There's also a desk for catching up on work, and a plush sofa where you can put your feet up and enjoy some Portuguese wine – but with so much to do right on your doorstep, we think you'll hardly find the time.

Located next door to the historic Rossio Square and providing a view of the Column of Pedro IV from the balcony, this apartment will put you right in the heart of the action in Lisbon. Ample natural light pours in through the living area’s arched French doors that give way to pretty Juliet balconies with views of the street below. Perch here with your evening glass of Portuguese wine when you’re not out sampling Pink Street’s famous nightlife, and end the night with a deliciously comfortable sleep in the blue and green bedrooms. Factor in the pair of bathrooms with their relaxing rainfall showers, and you’ve got everything you need for a blissful stay. 
 
When it comes to sightseeing, discover Pink Street’s many bars and eateries nearby, or make a beeline for Praça do Comércio, a ten-minute walk away. It doesn't get much better than this Alfama apartment for a first-time visitor to the city. Located a five-minute walk from São Jorge Castle and ten minutes to Sé Cathedral – both excellent starting points for a day of sightseeing – it's the perfect choice for a romantic weekend getaway or a convenient base for a solo traveller who wants to be within walking distance of the action.

Climb up the stairs and enter this bright and comfortable apartment, decorated with stylish simplicity in mind. Up here on the second floor, the open-plan kitchen/dining/living room is the undoubted heart of the home. 

We particularly enjoyed the treetop views that will accompany your culinary efforts in the kitchenette prior to sitting down to dine around the table. After dinner, feel free to unwind on the sofa or head to bed and watch TV in supreme comfort.

This home has a few exquisite architectural features – the original exposed brick wall, French doors, marble details, and other touches that reveal that this home was designed by an architect. The communal areas have a pleasant upscale vibe and excellent natural light, which gives Solar Volto a homey feel, even though this is a full-time rental property. Located on Rua de São José you'll be surrounded by design boutiques and upscale restaurants, making this a perfect stay out for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

With an impressive selection of museums, theatres, cinemas, and restaurants all close by, it's easy to see why this sunny home in the heart of Lisbon is so popular. As it's on the sixth floor with beautiful big windows, it does get a little toasty in the summer months. But the view from the open-plan living room overlooking the Tagus River below is truly breathtaking. We loved the Brigitte Bardot portrait and sporadic placement of bright prints and sculptures.

Although it's nestled in the heart of beautiful Bairro Alto, the surrounding narrow streets have a quiet and distinctly village-like feel where locals know each other and the streets are filled with coffee shops, concept stores, restaurants and art galleries. By night, it's a whole other story – the neighbourhood fills with people and the streets become outdoor extensions of the many bars in the area. Your home will be a lovely peaceful spot that’s still near all the action – trendy Chiado is just an eight-minute walk away. Our favourite spot of the apartment has got to be the southwest-facing balcony – it’s narrow but long, and offers up incredible views of the River Tagus and the 25th April Bridge at sunset. Bring your evening aperitif outside as you watch the sky’s colours change, or enjoy your morning coffees out here as day settles over the city. The inside of the house is extremely welcoming – there’s a large marble dining table for meals all together and a bright, stylish living room that’s been dynamically designed. At the end of a long day, wash up in the roomy bathrooms before settling in the bedrooms, where you’ll rest easy in anticipation of another beautiful Lisbon day tomorrow.

This knockout apartment combines good looks with sleek, modern functionality and a killer location. Contemporary concrete panels break up the lounge space, while the exposed walls and warm wood create a luxe but inviting feel. Natural light floods the home, particularly from the French doors that open out to the balcony. Enjoy the stunning views of the city, sky, and local life over dinner and wine - the balcony looks over frenetic Rua da Boavista. In less than a five-minute walk, stroll through the neighbourhood to Lisbon’s iconic and buzzing Time Out food hall, and stock up on all the local delicacies you can think of. In the apartment, put some music on the Marshall speakers, sit together at the chic dining table and benches, and feast on the spread of Portuguese tapas sourced from the market. You won't want to leave this spectacular home for long, but when you do, live like a local and hit the independent wine bars, restaurants, and boutique shops, or walk for ten minutes to see the waterfront with your group of loved ones.

Take a ride on a tram to explore deeper into Lisbon, or step out of the apartment for a relaxing stroll to find the hidden gems. A huge selection of restaurants is available – perfect for a meal out with the family. If you haven't brought children with you, we suggest visiting one of the many bars located nearby to the apartment for a lush night out on the town. You're on holiday, so you're going to want some bubbly to celebrate.

Head back home to pop the TV on, while you rest your aching feet from a day of adventuring. Snuggle up to the warmth of the wood–burning fireplace with some comfy socks and while away the rest of the night reading your favourite book.

Situated in the charming area of Graça, this luminous flat is a cosy retreat in one of Lisbon's most authentic neighbourhoods. The sun-kissed private terrace is our favourite spot. Begin the morning out there with a strong cup of coffee and pasteis de nata in the fresh air – your host can also arrange breakfast – and close the day with a glass of Vinho Verde come nightfall. You'll also have access to a communal garden, which is perfect for picnics in the late-afternoon sunshine. Inside, the sleek design is complemented by brilliant pops of red. Sprawl out on the sofa for a post-sightseeing catnap or gather around the table for a typical Portuguese dinner. 

Another thing we adore is the location. You're a bit further away from the hustle and bustle in the city centre, but with the famous 28 Tram a short walk away, you won't have to travel far to see the sights. Here, narrow streets are flanked by local restaurants, bakeries and open-air cafes, all serving up delectable regional dishes. Make sure to take in the panoramic views from the hilltop observation points – our favourite is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, easily reached on foot. Or, explore in style and ask your host to arrange river cruises, helicopter tours and other experiences.

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Graça, away from the hordes of tourists in Baixa and the Bairro Alto, you'll find this comfortable apartment. If you're keen to experience a more authentic side to Lisbon and immerse yourself in the city's unique charms, then it's the ideal place to call home during your stay. 

The whole building’s been recently renovated, giving it a fresh and clean feel. Inside the apartment itself, there's a tranquil ambiance thanks to the blue and cream colour scheme, reminding you that the water's edge isn't too far away. The open-plan setup makes it easy to chat with your guests while you cook, before serving up your culinary creations at the handsome wooden table. And there's even a little balcony, so you can breathe in some fresh air as you enjoy a nightcap at the end of a long day. 

From here, you're in the perfect position to roam Graça's winding streets, discovering hidden gems like quaint port bars and artisanal boutiques. The Miradouro da Graça, with its stunning panoramic views, is only a seven-minute walk away, and the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is even closer. And, if you want to tick off your sightseeing list, then the Castelo de São Jorge and Lisbon Cathedral are within a fifteen-minute stroll.

Lisbon’s terracotta-topped buildings stretch out below this apartment, in the middle of the city’s most cultured neighbourhood. Quiet and laid-back during the day, Bairro Alto comes to life at night – characteristics that are echoed throughout the rooms of this home. The underlying neutral palette of the living spaces is offset by colourful art, coloured accents and a wall-mounted sculpture over the master bed, giving the rooms a touch of quirk and vibrancy. With two bedrooms and two bathrooms, the four of you will have a comfortable stay for sure. There’s plenty of space for two couples to enjoy time to themselves, but also to come together for a home-delivered breakfast or drinks on the balcony, perhaps. When you decide to venture out, the city's sights and many restaurants and bars are within easy walking distance.

Housed in a cultural heritage building right on Lisbon’s famous Pink Street – named as one of the New York Times’s favourite European streets – this stylish apartment puts you in a prime spot to experience the city’s famous nightlife, as well as its most historic and cultural sights. 
 
Inside, tall corniced ceilings and wood floors make a stately impression, with an earthy-toned contemporary decor that feels both chicly bohemian and wonderfully Portuguese. We love the large arched windows that let in plenty of sunlight, as well as the views of bustling Pink Street below. 
 
The three bedrooms have been elegantly curated with a pared-back aesthetic, while the bathroom with its diamond-pattern marble floors and inviting tub offers a welcoming wake-up each morning. 
 
With a desk on hand too, you’re all set should you need to catch up on work, but with countless things to see and do nearby, we suggest less work and more play. 
 
Head to the Time Out Market – a three-minute walk – to sample some of Lisbon’s best street food, or explore bustling Praça do Comércio, a ten-minute stroll away. You’re also within easy walking distance of the Santa Justa Lift (twelve minutes), Lisbon Cathedral (fifteen minutes) and the labyrinthine Alfama district (twenty minutes) while plenty of bars, restaurants and shops are right on your front step.

You can even spot the top of the Basilica da Estrela out the window – a rarity for a ground floor flat. But the best part about this place is the excellent location. Bairro Alto, known as Lisbon's bohemian district, is home to trendy restaurants, lively Fado bars, old-style cafes, art galleries and independent shops. Check out the many beautiful churches sprinkled across this vibrant neighbourhood, or hop on one of the iconic trams and weave your way up into the hills. This is the perfect spot to go exploring – you're only a four-minute walk from Miradouro São Pedro de Alcântara (one of the best viewpoints in the city) and just a twenty-minute stroll from the historic city centre.

The Baixa district was completely rebuilt after an earthquake destroyed it in the mid-eighteenth century – now it's lined with neoclassical architecture, outstanding museums, stunning squares, and plenty of shopping opportunities, and this characterful apartment is right in the heart of it. Just a five-minute walk to the Praça do Comércio, you'll feel immersed in Lisbon's culture, history and commercial centre. Verging on old-timey Alfama, you really couldn't be better placed location-wise for all there is to eat, drink and do here. If you feel like a quiet indoor moment's downtime, relax in the bright, contemporary living/dining area with a glass of Lisbon wine. We love how the original features are still intact, while the modern furniture merges old and new in elegant fashion. Knock up a homemade piri piri chicken in the sleek kitchen to be enjoyed in the stylish dining area with Eames-inspired chairs. Although, with a host of eateries and family-run restaurants right on your doorstep, we think you'll be dining out most evenings.

Miguel used to live in Hunter, and it’s immediately clear that the flat used to be someone’s home. Things like the quality of the mattresses really stand out, as they are often overlooked in rental homes, but that isn’t the case here. The design is, of course, eye-catching – you don’t need us to tell you that – and even if not everyone goes for it, they will go for the views from the balcony. Throw in the fantastic location near in Chiado, and you’re onto a winner.


Hunter

Baixa is our favourite place to stay in Lisbon. It's packed with restaurants and cafes, all while being a short walk away from the city sights. Golden Feathers is right in front of a famous tram 28 stop, so there's no excuse for staying in. This is a soft, comfortable home that mixes metallic hues with high-quality materials. While we would like to see a bit more of a personal touch in what is clearly a rental home, it's a great base for urban exploration.

Enjoy some of Lisbon’s best views from this split-level penthouse perch. Classic Portuguese windows look out over the shambling terracotta rooftops of the city’s old heart. A real gem of a place, in a great location, this home is perfect if you're here to experience the buzz of city life in Lisbon. Part of a traditional period building, it's been beautifully restored to show off its best features – the living room's three sets of French doors out to the narrow, wrought iron balcony, the window shutters and the exposed parts of the wooden pombolina skeleton structure this area is known for. We love the wood floors and white walls, keeping everything cool and minimalist, while the velvet sofas and house plants make it feel like a real home from home. Here you'll be on the edge of Cais do Sodré and the Bairro Alto, so you’re in the heart of Lisbon’s thriving restaurant and bar scenes, with somewhere different to try within walking distance every night of the week.


Blimunda

This home feels comfortable, high-end, and characterful. It’s hard to ask for more, but we picked it apart and here’s what we found. The Handhake's baren bones are great – this home is located inside a renovated Baixa townhouse, which has high ceilings and French windows as standard, but the host didn’t rely solely on that. There are a few nice pieces of art in here, notably the statuettes and the mirrors in the bedroom, which give it a modern look.

A substantial renovation saw the home transformed into a mecca of contemporary design, though they were careful to preserve and restore historical elements. Garcé and Dimofski collaborated with artists and designers from around the world – every detail has a story. We love the Portuguese marble in the main en-suite bathroom. If you can tear yourself away from this stunning home, you’ll be close to Baixa and Alfama, within easy reach of viewpoints and tourist attractions.

Nestled next to Avenida da Liberdade, this home is made for anyone who wants to be in the centre of the action. Spend your days strolling the cobbled streets, popping into top-class boutiques and stopping off at the kiosks lined along the avenue for a true taste of Lisbon cuisine. That said, if you fancy a home-cooked meal, your home-away-from-home has you covered. While it’s not the biggest space, there’s a well-equipped kitchenette perfect for rustling up a dish to enjoy with loved ones as you relive your Lisbon adventures.

We’re talking hardwood floors, walls filled with bold prints in artfully mismatched frames, sleek leather sofas, and beds that wouldn’t be out of place in a high-end hotel. The kitchen has everything you would need if you weren’t dining out in one of the gazillion acclaimed restaurants that Lisbon is famous for. Get the coffee maker on and wake up leisurely, and if you can, claim the master bedroom that comes with its own balcony and city views. We love the elevated touches in this home, like the HD projector you can plug your laptop into for film night on the mezzanine.
