While the building's exteriors are unremarkable, what this home may lack in charm more than makes up for with space. Well-suited to families, there's a large, well-equipped kitchen, a dedicated desk space for remote working, and a single bedroom just for little ones. The lengthy balcony is a nice touch too. Set back from the tourist bustle – you'll need to jump on the Lumiar Metro (twelve minutes on foot) when it's time to hit the sights. Or, if you'd rather drive, the free parking outside the apartment will be handy.

With a sought-after address in the heart of Lisbon, situated in the neighbourhood of Santo António, this home is a great find. If you fancy a stroll, head to the nearby Parque Eduardo VII – there are over 60 acres to explore. Naturally, with this location, you may hear some street noise during your stay. If you're here for work, you'll be glad to know this apartment has a dedicated workstation. After checking your emails, you can have a cold glass of wine on the private balcony (accessed from the bedroom and living space).

Situated in the charming area of Graça, this luminous flat is a cosy retreat in one of Lisbon's most authentic neighbourhoods. The sun-kissed private terrace is our favourite spot. Begin the morning out there with a strong cup of coffee and pasteis de nata in the fresh air – your host can also arrange breakfast – and close the day with a glass of Vinho Verde come nightfall. You'll also have access to a communal garden, which is perfect for picnics in the late-afternoon sunshine. Inside, the sleek design is complemented by brilliant pops of red. Sprawl out on the sofa for a post-sightseeing catnap or gather around the table for a typical Portuguese dinner. 

Another thing we adore is the location. You're a bit further away from the hustle and bustle in the city centre, but with the famous 28 Tram a short walk away, you won't have to travel far to see the sights. Here, narrow streets are flanked by local restaurants, bakeries and open-air cafes, all serving up delectable regional dishes. Make sure to take in the panoramic views from the hilltop observation points – our favourite is Miradouro da Senhora do Monte, easily reached on foot. Or, explore in style and ask your host to arrange river cruises, helicopter tours and other experiences.

Wonderfully bright and designed with a keen eye for detail, this beautiful apartment in Lisbon’s scenic Mouraria neighbourhood is the ideal base for those wanting to be within easy walking distance of the city’s best sights. Inside, wood floors and a calm blue palette create a cool harmony in each part of the open-plan living space. Located on Rua de São José you'll be surrounded by design boutiques and upscale restaurants, making this a perfect stay out for those who appreciate the finer things in life.

Thanks to its central location in Lisbon's bohemian Bairro Alto, this apartment is the perfect base to explore the Portuguese capital. Walk the winding streets of this neighbourhood to immerse yourself in the culture and architecture of Lisbon. When the hills get a bit too much, you can always hop onto one of the iconic trams as they weave their way through the city. You're four minutes' walk from the breathtaking city views of Miradouro de São Pedro, a six-minute walk from the opulent interior of the Church of Sao Roque, and six minutes from the mournful sounds of fado that accompany dinner at legendary Lisbon restaurant, Adega Machado. At the end of a day of exploring, retreat to your sleek and modern home, where traditional features harmoniously coexist with minimalist modern furniture – it's a stark contrast to the art-daubed cobbled streets below. Already crisp, minimal, and understated, you can also add bright to the list as soon as you open the shuttered windows dotted around this home. With the light streaming in, the contrast of the mostly white interior will make the green of the house plants look all the more vivid, whilst creating a calming and rejuvenating atmosphere. Enjoy the mezzanine bedroom by staying in bed with a good book and a cup of coffee. Eventually, you can make your way down to the sleek kitchen to grab a bite to eat before setting off to explore the city on your doorstep. 

The iconic Lisbon Cathedral is a thirty-minute walk away, but there are plenty of restaurants and cafes along the way to make a pit stop, or two, at. This beautiful apartment sits atop the highest of the seven hills of Lisbon, overlooking the sea of red-tiled roofs, in the historical neighbourhood of Graça. You're surrounded by an area steeped in history, starting right at home in this apartment, which was built back in 1920. 

Cloaked in rich tapestry and quirky decor, this home has an undeniable air of splendour. We particularly love the regal piano, calling you for late-night sing-along sessions. But when you step into the kitchen, you'll see how homely and inviting this apartment is, with its colourful tiles and huge dining table fit for family dinners of laughs, drinks, and old stories. It's one that's built to be cooked in, and in this beautiful, well-equipped kitchen, you'll be glad to do so. It also gives you a sneak peek of the jaw-dropping beauty that's outside, the pièce de résistance of this home – the balcony. 

You can step right out onto the balcony from the kitchen and living room, and there's even a smaller one that can be accessed from both bedrooms. From the main balcony, you're treated to one of the best views in all of Lisbon, it's even good enough to rival the nearby Senhora do Monte viewpoint. You'll love spending lazy mornings sipping on coffee, looking out at the view, and feeling the glow of the morning sun on your face, before heading out to explore Lisbon. 

You're steps away from the historic 28 tram, which famously takes passengers to all of Lisbon's most iconic and beautiful neighbourhoods. Alfama, the cathedral, Baixa, all the way to Campo Ourique. If you’re itching to explore, it’s less than a five-minute walk to a craft brewery and just footsteps from a contemporary art gallery. The centre of Lisbon is reached in fifteen minutes by car – we recommend taking a wander through charming Alfama before watching the sunset from the Senhora do Monte viewpoint.

The area between Avenida and Saldanha is home to a lot of offices, which attracts a young professionals crowd – and with it, a fun mixture of cafes and restaurants that will keep you busy locally. Let's Get Lexical is one of those hazy, sunny homes that will make you feel like you're waking up in a beach house, even though you'll be fifteen minutes away from the Sāo Jorge Castle. The text prints are a matter of personal taste, but if you're not bothered by their relentless inspiration, then you've probably found the one.

This up to the minute apartment marries modernity with the history of its Graça neighbourhood. Inside, it’s a crisp whitewashed affair with natural textures and neutral tones. The minimalist living space is stylish yet functional – a seating area with sofa and rattan armchairs calls for quick coffee breaks, while the bright dining space is ideal for traditional Portuguese breakfasts in the morning sunlight. But that’s if you can wake up in time – the comfy beds are irresistible. After a quick workout in the communal fitness room, take a ten-minute stroll to the Largo da Graça where an endless supply of bakeries, eateries and wine bars, as well as one of the most spectacular viewpoints boasting boundless views of Lisbon await. Carry on for another ten minutes to reach ancient Alfama and its maze of cobblestone streets. Listen to melancholy Fado in traditional restaurants, explore the São Jorge Castle and sip local green wine in old-world bars.

Yellow Hexagon

In cities across the globe, it's more often than not true that the closer a home is to the centre, the less likely it is that it'll have any outdoor space. This apartment in the middle of Lisbon bucks this trend – not only does it have a private terrace with an alfresco dining table, but guests also get access to a communal garden that's blessed with bountiful amounts of plant life.

While these respective spaces are an explosion of colour, the home's interior is much simpler by contrast. The walls and ceilings are painted stark white, which makes it feel instantly bright and welcoming. There's a minimalist approach to furnishings and decoration, although the kitchen that could kindly be described as space-efficient perhaps embraces this trend a little too much. Aside from that, there's very little to fault with this simple but elegant home.

To top it all off, the location is excellent regardless if you're visiting Lisbon for the first or fiftieth time. Both Museu Nacional do Azulejo and Castelo de São Jorge can be reached in around twenty minutes on foot, albeit in opposite directions, while Praça do Comércio takes all of eighteen minutes to reach on the tram.

Situated in Mouraria, home to sun-dappled cobbled lanes and the bustling Martim Moniz square that erupts with Asian, African, and Arabic flavours, this apartment is a perfect choice for those wanting to explore the city’s history. There’s a focus on relaxation here, with a no-fuss approach to the interiors and a private terrace where you’ll spend mornings soaking up the glorious Iberian sunshine. Take inspiration from the exploration themed artwork as you sip an espresso or sit down at the contemporary dining table and put the finishing touches to your agenda. The dinky kitchenette is equipped with the basics, though with Lisbon’s rich culinary scene on your doorstep, we imagine you’ll be doing most of your dining out. Take the eighteen-minute stroll downhill to Praça do Comércio, stopping off at the Santa Justa Elevator and 12th century Lisbon Cathedral along the way. End your excursion at the River Tagus; find a spot to watch a knockout sunset dance across the calm waters.

Tucked away on a residential street in Alfama, this home is a triple threat of charm, location, and views. This is a cosy haven with a simple design aesthetic that focuses on functionality and comfort – but we really liked the French doors and the hardwood steps that take you up to the attic bedroom. We were torn between the quaint communal terrace at the back and the spectacular river views from the living room. In the end, we decided to split our time between the two. Want to discover the real Lisbon? Slip on your most comfortable trainers and get lost in the charming labyrinthine streets of Alfama. If you want to save your legs, two of the city's most iconic tram routes pass within five minutes of your hillside home. Music lovers should head to the Museu do Fado, a three-minute walk, while history buffs will enjoy the impressive Castelo de São Jorge and Sé de Lisboa, both ten minutes away.

The contrast of timber and concrete gives the place a striking look, while the leafy pot plants and jute rugs add a touch of rooted cosiness. Pick lemons fresh from the tree and add to Portuguese-inspired dishes knocked up in your dinky kitchenette. Like its lovely downstairs neighbour, Quarta Bicicleta is one of the nicest homes in this part of Alfama – and trust us, we've seen many. The location at the foot of the São Jorge Castle will make sightseeing effortless, and the terrace has some pretty sweet views of the river too. With a coherent modern design and high quality furniture, the only thing we can really fault this home for are the slanting ceilings (if you're tall), and the wall art might not be to everyone's taste. 

Quarta Bicicleta

This apartment might be modern, but the view is all old-world Lisbon. Inside, the living room feels like a 60s entertainer’s paradise, with velvet sofas, gallery-white walls and curious sculptures lining the room. Slide open the wall of glass and step out onto the terrace which has a view of modern Lisbon in one direction, and the orange roofs and townhouses of old in the other. The kitchen continues the charming retro theme, where lipstick red dining chairs offer space for the whole group. The master bedroom feels super plush with a purple velvet feature headboard, while the twin room is a cheerful shade of sunflower-yellow. We love the little nod to Portuguese tradition in the azelujo tiles in the family bathroom. This place is in the modern neighbourhood of Saldanha, a haven of sleek shopping streets and ultra-modern coffee shops. A twenty-minute stroll sees you in the winding, cobbled streets of Alfama, crowned with a castle, or the grand streets of Baixa packed with local restaurants and bars. 

Mid-Century Modern

Tucked away in a quiet corner of Graça, away from the hordes of tourists in Baixa and the Bairro Alto, you'll find this comfortable apartment. If you're keen to experience a more authentic side to Lisbon and immerse yourself in the city's unique charms, then it's the ideal place to call home during your stay. 

The whole building’s been recently renovated, giving it a fresh and clean feel. Inside the apartment itself, there's a tranquil ambiance thanks to the blue and cream colour scheme, reminding you that the water's edge isn't too far away. The open-plan setup makes it easy to chat with your guests while you cook, before serving up your culinary creations at the handsome wooden table. And there's even a little balcony, so you can breathe in some fresh air as you enjoy a nightcap at the end of a long day. 

From here, you're in the perfect position to roam Graça's winding streets, discovering hidden gems like quaint port bars and artisanal boutiques. The Miradouro da Graça, with its stunning panoramic views, is only a seven-minute walk away, and the Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is even closer. And, if you want to tick off your sightseeing list, then the Castelo de São Jorge and Lisbon Cathedral are within a fifteen-minute stroll.

This stylish apartment sits atop the highest hill in Lisbon. Thanks to the hardwood floors, stone wall, small balconies and large windows that fill the space with light, there's a cosy vibe here that will make you feel right at home. Oh, and did we mention the view? Just step out onto the balcony and you'll see the sparkling river in the distance. There's a fully-stocked kitchen that makes cooking a breeze, and your hosts are also more than happy to arrange exciting extras like breakfast delivery, home massages, surf lessons, a cruise on the Tagus and even helicopter rides. Though you're a bit far from Praça do Comércio and the city centre (it's a fifteen-minute bus ride), staying in Graça is worth it. You'll find colourful houses, local restaurants making traditional Portuguese fare and independent shops nestled amongst the cobblestone alleyways. Not to mention this area has some of the best viewpoints in Lisbon – we suggest Miradouro da Graça, which is a fifteen-minute walk away.

If you love being in the city but hate the bustle, we've got a treat for you. Found in a quiet residential neighbourhood in Alvalade, this home struck us as a perfect spot to retreat to after a day exploring Lisbon's many treasures - the terrace is an inviting spot for a glass of red. And while the third bedroom is a little on the cosy side with limited storage space, the workstations and kitchen make long stays here just as comfortable as a weekend break.

If you're quite particular about location, then this apartment is the place for you. Situated inside a period building on Rua de Santa Justa, you'll be able to spot Arco da Rua Augusta from the living room, and walk to Elevador de Santa Justa in just one minute – it doesn't get much more convenient than that. Beautifully restored and filled with light, this home is as stylish as it is comfortable. We especially loved the kitchen's bright yellow tiles, where you can prepare a delicious meal using fresh ingredients to share at the sleek glass table. There's also a desk for catching up on work, and a plush sofa where you can put your feet up and enjoy some Portuguese wine – but with so much to do right on your doorstep, we think you'll hardly find the time. 

Floral Uplift

Experience a more authentic side of Lisbon at this modern apartment set in the smart residential district of Alvalade. Perfect for a family stay, there are traditional eateries and green parks close by. Here for the sightseeing? The private parking and proximity to the Metro will be handy for getting out and about. However, it's worth noting the railway is within earshot here. Offering disabled access, a lengthy balcony and separate bathrooms for each bedroom, this home delivers practicality and style in equal measure.

With a palatial façade, stunning minimalist interiors, and proximity to the poshest shopping street in Lisbon, Nova Inspirada packs quite a punch. But don't be fooled by the central location – this home is tucked away on a quiet street where you can relax on any of your many terraces, which includes the communal atrium. We tested this home in the winter, so the outside spaces don't look as appealing as they will in the summer, but the building itself hides the remains of a Roman settlement, so you'll be living and breathing history.

This building has lived a few lives since it was built in the 1940s. It was designed by the renowned Portuguese architect Manuel Norte Júnior, before being used as a garage for storing car parts. After lying unoccupied for a decade, it was then lovingly restored with a focus on high end furniture and plenty of colourful touches. We particularly enjoyed the huge terrace – not only does it come with a stylish bar where you can mix cocktails, but there’s also plenty of space for alfresco dining and spending time with your loved ones. You'll also find a unique stained glass window in the kitchen, which makes the ideal spot for enjoying morning coffee. Although it's a little out of Lisbon's city centre, the surrounding Saldanha neighborhood has plenty of local restaurants and you can walk to the downtown riverfront area in forty minutes.
