Built in the 1960s, in the Spanish Colonial Revival style, this home is endlessly cool and boasts some outstanding features. As well as games like croquet and corn hole, there are two outdoor tubs, and even an outdoor movie screen. You'll spot healing crystals set into the walls at carefully considered intervals. There’s everything from aventurine for emotional calm to smoky quartz for grounding and cleansing. And the location is hard to beat. You'll be right in the heart of the breathtaking landscape but it's still easy to experience the nearby restaurants, bars and boutique shops. La Copine is just round the corner, while the famous Pappy & Harriet’s is about fifteen minutes away. You can reach Joshua Tree National Park in about twenty-five minutes by car.

The real draw here, however, is the incredible location. When we say you're out in nature, we really mean it. Reached by a sandy dirt track, it feels as wild as the desert landscape that surrounds it. Relax in the cowboy-style tub during the day or explore the two acres of Joshua Tree forest or Joshua Tree National Park (a twenty-five-minute drive away), before setting up camp for the night. With little light pollution, the starry sky is clearer out here than ever – whether you're gathered around the fire pit, sat under the fairy light-strewn canopy or ogling constellations through the telescope, it's a sanctuary of peace, solitude and natural beauty.

Drive down the unmade dirt track to Pioneertown for a taste of the Wild West or head to Joshua Tree National Park for wild landscapes and stellar hiking opportunities. We can see ourselves relaxing on the canopied sun lounger with a glass of something cold in hand as the sun goes down. The stargazing in the hi-desert is something to write home about so after supper, just lie back and enjoy.

We love the balcony equipped with a sun chair – accessed via the master bedroom and living room – and the outdoor shower that will get any morning off to a refreshing start. Spend the day hiking around your sun-drenched house, taking in the majesty of the ancient junipers, weathered boulders, desert oaks and piñon pines, or hop in your car to visit Joshua Tree National Park, just a twenty-minute drive away. A hilltop cabin in a unique area of the desert, this place is nestled on its own between Pioneertown and Yucca Valley on what feels like the scenic drive through Joshua Tree National Park. The trees, rocks, and landscape just outside the doors are just as breathtaking as anything you would see in the park, except you have them all to yourself. 

There’s a wood-burning stove to keep you warm on those chill nights, while one of your musically talented friends can play a tune on the grand piano (though there’s also a Bluetooth sound system, for convenience). On the walls, you’ll find original art by the late Gerald Zeldin, and an interior so impressive it was featured in the NY Times fashion section. You can feel the history of this old mining cabin in the wood-beamed ceiling and clapboard (yet modern)  bathroom. Picture-frame windows let the sunlight stream into this boho-chic interior and let you gaze out over the endless desert before you.

This place is totally off-grid and once you’ve experienced the unique feeling of heating the outdoor hot tub with firewood as you gaze at the stars, there’s no going back.

The house is set on a five-acre plot and decorated in the laid-back and comfortable style you'd expect. While the home is equipped with all the usual mod cons, it's retained plenty of quaint charm with wood-panelled walls, a record player and retro games console sitting alongside a lightning-fast internet connection and various streaming options. There's also a separate casita ideal for couples. We loved the wicker mirrors, wall hangings, hammock-style hanging seats and the peaceful, minimalist bedroom interiors. Outside you'll find a wood-fired hot tub ideal for chilly evenings and a pink stucco in-ground pool for afternoons. When you're not neck-deep in water, the wooden seating area and firepit is a perfect place to admire the pink and red sunset skies.

If you want to head off for the day, the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is only two miles away, your gateway to almost 800,000 acres of mystic desert. Your hosts also provide two eclectic bikes that you can use to pedal your way across the desert.

Mid-century modern meets boho chic at this cabin in the heart of the Yucca Valley. From the tile backsplash and terrazzo worktops in the kitchen to the concrete flooring and exposed brick around the Franklin stove, we love how the design honours the home’s retro roots in a modern way. We like all the personal touches, too — such as the vinyl record player and Public Goods toiletries. Our favourite bit, though, has to be the backyard. It's essentially a second living space, with a large sectional sofa, six-seater dining table, and cosy fire pit to enjoy. We can just imagine whiling away the evenings out there, watching the unforgettable desert sunset, chatting around the fire, or dining under the stars. Joshua Tree National Park is just a 15-minute drive away and is perfect for outdoor enthusiasts wanting to hike, cycle, or even horseback ride. When it comes to exploring the great outdoors, Joshua Tree National Park entrance is a twenty-minute drive away, and downtown Joshua Tree and Pioneertown are both twelve minutes away.

Wild Rocks is one of those homes that always appears effortlessly chic. Designed by Oller & Pejic, it’s an architectural gem set against Yucca Valley’s rugged desert terrain. The sliding glass doors blur the lines between the inside and outside, allowing you to enjoy home-cooked meals on the terrace, gaze at the stars, and relax in the hot tub. We also loved the enormous record collection, which features some of the host Joann’s all-time favourite tunes. Found just a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, there are plenty of exciting adventures waiting for you.

You’ll feel wonderfully secluded at this homestead in Joshua Tree, surrounded by the Mojave Desert and arresting views of the rolling mountains. Open, bright and instantly welcoming, the home’s interiors are colourful and cheerful, matching its vibrant pops of oranges, reds and blues with the natural hues found in the arid landscape that surrounds you. We love the huge windows that allow the light to pour in and the open-plan kitchen with its bar stools inviting casual breakfasts before a day of exploring. Head out to visit Joshua Tree National Park – an eight-minute drive away – or walk ten minutes to explore downtown Joshua Tree with its eco-markets, saloons, restaurants and wine bars. After a day of adventuring, come back home to mix yourself a margarita and pop a record on to dance to, or head out to the shaded deck to watch the sunset over the desert with a cold beer. As night closes in, light the fire pit and watch the sky turn into a dazzling show of stars before retreating to your cool bedrooms for a serene night’s sleep.
