Despite appearances, you're not far from civilization here – a twenty-minute walk will bring you to a coffee shop, and you'll find a supermarket just a five-minute drive away. And with a free pass into Joshua Tree National Park (a fifteen-minute drive), you can explore to your heart's content.

If you want to head off for the day, the west entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is only two miles away, your gateway to almost 800,000 acres of mystic desert. Your hosts also provide two eclectic bikes that you can use to pedal your way across the desert.

This home provides all the tools you need to set that creativity free – art supplies, a studio space, a blackboard wall for brainstorming and an art rail on which to hang your work. The home itself was designed to inform and inspire, from the photography books lining the walls to the remarkable sculptural “nest” chair in the yard. If your creative passions are more culinary, the dual-sink kitchen has plenty of counter space on which to create gourmet meals, and there's a barbecue outside for grilling skewers. After dinner, watch the stars rise from the luxurious hot tub before huddling around the fire pit with a mug of mulled wine. Joshua Tree Visitor Center is just a four-minute drive away – and with an electric car charger in the garage, you won't run out of juice.

Set in two acres of private desert landscape, this bijou cabin is a place to unwind and let the rush of modern life slip away. In the rugged landscape surrounding this home, you’ve got a hot tub and macrame hammocks sitting beneath the big desert sky. Out favourite spot to watch the sunset is the ‘moon bench’ and once the sky has speckled with stars its time to get a fire crackling in the white-plaster fire pit and look for shooting stars.

Inside, you can feel that the hosts have poured their heart and soul into the decor, where crisp walls are adorned with object d’art in every desert hue. Furniture is vintage and hand-picked, and there’s a record player to curate the perfect soundtrack to your desert escape. The kitchen has all the essentials, and the selection of ceramic crockery feels as though each mug and plate has been considered.

If you want to get out and explore, Joshua Tree town is a twenty-minute drive and the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park is just beyond for endless desert and mountain hiking trails.

There are spaces for meditation and yoga, both indoors and out, and the desert aesthetic has been perfectly captured in the design. A renovated mid-century home, it's minimalist and charming. Outside, you have a grill and a hot tub, which is a great spot for watching the stars move across the clear desert skies. All of that’s without even mentioning the location. You can walk into Joshua Tree Village, which has several excellent cafes and restaurants, and if you drive ten minutes in the other direction, you’ll reach the entrance to Joshua Tree National Park.
