Challenge a friend to a game of pool or poker while the chef of the group makes use of the incredibly well-equipped kitchen – with a blender, food processor, rice cooker, deep fryer and pizza stone, any kind of cuisine can be on the menu. When it’s time to sleep, the bedrooms boast luxury linens and plenty of space for sprawling out. While there’s so much to do at the house, if you fancy going out you'll find golf courses, restaurants and shopping all around the area. Plus, for adventurous hikers or nature lovers, Joshua Tree National Park is only forty-five minutes away by car.

Spend days out in the lush garden, with its tropical hibiscus, citrus, bird of paradise and, of course, palm trees. While there’s plenty of places to sit, you’ll probably be moving from the pool to the Jacuzzi, to the sun lounger and then back to the pool again. Toss a round of cornhole with friends or family, or play some golf on your own personal putting green. When the sun sets and the desert night air settles in, light up the grill and fire pit for a cosy dinner under the stars. Inside, you’ll find the home is equally well set up for entertaining – the enormous kitchen is ideal for fixing up elaborate dinners, while the pool table and wet bar provide the evening’s fun and games. Even from inside, you can enjoy the wonderful landscaping of the garden, with the large paneled living room windows providing a beautiful view of the inviting outdoors. The bedroom suites are roomy and the bathrooms are spotless, adding to the comfort found in every room of this thoughtfully designed home. Though it will be hard to run out of things to do here, it’s worth making time for the area’s hiking and shopping. The famous El Paseo shopping district is only fifteen minutes away and Empire Polo Grounds is just four minutes away. Plus, if you fancy a larger golf course, you’re already on one, with several more in the surrounding area.

As you might imagine, it's an ideal location for a wedding or any other large ceremony, but it's just as suitable for a decadent getaway.

Elsewhere outside, there's a fully-equipped outdoor kitchen, as well as a long alfresco dining table on a pretty palm-fringed patio where you can enjoy the fruits of your labour. When you want to relax after dinner, the bubbling water of the hot tub awaits.

Similarly, the nearby Santa Rosa and San Jacinto Mountains National Monument gives you the opportunity to go hiking – the start of the Boo Hoff East Trailhead takes twenty-five minutes to reach in the car.

Experience the history of old town, La Quinta first hand at this casita complex. The protected indoor/outdoor dining space with white-wash walls, wicker lampshades and Mexican blankets paint a scene out of an old western. A private pool and spa is shared between the two casitas for families and friends to come together for some fun in the sun, or an evening barbecue. Bikes are also available should you want to make a short cycle to the shops and restaurants of La Quinta. Inside, the rustic white walls, exposed beams and wooden flooring continue the historic feel. Though the sleek, stainless steel appliances in the otherwise rustic kitchen are distinctly 21st-century, there is no escaping the old-world charm of this place. Having said that, no one is leaving you totally disconnected, with modern comforts of wifi, Apple TV, and bluetooth sound systems. It is up to you whether you want to switch off here. Old or new, this is the best of both.

Set in a gated community in Indio, April Showers offers the kind of luxury that the Coachella Valley is famous for. This isn't your regular Indio home with a wraparound backyard, a huge open-plan living room, and a split-level pool and spa. We particularly love the homely charm that features throughout the property – from the moment you arrive, expect to be greeted with a warmth comparable to the feeling of stepping inside your own home. Since the sun is always shining around here, you'll probably want to spend most of your time outside in the garden – whether it's for a game of ping pong, a dip in the pool, or to fire up the barbecue, gather the group together to enjoy a sociable affair from day through to evening. While there's plenty to keep you occupied on-site, this characterful villa also works beautifully as a base from which to explore the happening area. If you're into golf, this is something of a pilgrimage site. Not only is the vast PGA West complex just a few blocks away, but there are countless courses within a ten-minute drive. And there is undoubtedly plenty around to keep you busy if you aren't so keen on golf – La Quinta boasts a vast array of upmarket shops and restaurants, less than a ten-minute drive away. Did we mention that the Empire Polo Club, better known as the site of the Coachella music festival, happens to be reachable in just a six-minute drive?

With magnificent mountain views from every angle, this home is surrounded by towering palm trees and complete with its own heated saltwater pool. Sun loungers promise to keep you comfy and relaxed as you soak up the rays, and a U-shaped rattan sofa presents the ideal spot to kick back with a homemade lemonade and fresh fruit salad. From the outside, this place has it all, and as we make our way through the yellow brick archway into the home, the scenes are equally jaw–dropping.
A mid–century home that’s been freshly updated for a contemporary look and feel, this place is a statement–maker, to say the least. A curation of brightly–coloured pop art pieces decorate the walls and retro accessories contrast coolly with the modern, angular furnishings. We love the fusion of old and new in this place. From the vintage, banana–yellow TV to the retro arcade game in the living room, these nostalgic additions create a space that’s full of fun and character. The bedrooms are bold and inviting, and the master bathroom is a real head–turner. The back wall is covered in luscious green foliage (fake, by the way, so there’s no need to water it!), while the gold taps of the double sink add a touch of grandeur. 
Keen to keep busy? This home is kitted out with fun things for all the family to enjoy. There’s the pool, table tennis, heaps of kids books and toys…you name it, it’s all here, so you’ll never be stuck for stuff to do. Palm Desert is a great area to explore, though, so if you do feel like popping out of your plush private pad for a little while, the El Paseo shopping district is just a short distance away, as is Coachella Valley and The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. 


The Yellow Brick Archway

Situated on a golf course, views here extend all the way to the horizon. Take in the lake and the mountains, the manicured fairways and a deep breath of desert air. This home is special for the way it combines the best of indoor and outdoor living, with disappearing walls of glass transforming the living area into a giant well-furnished terrace that looks out on the back garden. Step outside, towel in hand, and dive into the sparkling saltwater pool. After a few laps, unwind in the Jacuzzi, or just plop on a lounge chair like a lizard in the desert sun. With palm trees surrounding you, and the peaceful Santa Rosa mountains in the distance, it’s hard not to abandon yourself to total relaxation. The sentiment continues inside – step through the disappearing pocket doors to the living room where you’ll find a billiards table, sofa and gourmet kitchen. We can't get over the layout – just settle back on the sofa and enjoy the unencumbered view. The bedroom suites here have welcoming carpet, personal bathrooms and lots of space. And once you’re well-rested, you’ll find the Empire Polo Grounds are just eight minutes away by car while the famous El Paseo shopping district is just a twenty-minute drive.  

Hit 'Em Straight

Stepping into this La Quinta home feels like stepping into a Moorish palace. Wrought-iron flourishes, bright white walls and pops of terracotta orange combine to create that old Moroccan feel inside. The living room feels homely with its collection of boardgames and books, and squashy leather sofas. While the kitchen is blissfully sleek with loads of counter space for meal prep. Should work beckon, a separate office room provides a classy spot for remote working. Guests have access to the resort’s clubhouse where a swimming pool in the shape of a Moroccan plunge pool awaits, and a sunken circular hot tub can soothe aching muscles. The grounds are also home to bocce ball courts, tennis courts, a gym and ping pong tables. If you prefer to soak up the sun in private, the home’s own terrace has a gas grill and outdoor dining, plus a couple of loungers.

The Blue Frog

One of the biggest estates in Coachella Valley, this palatial home is an absolute dream. Forget all about the city as you swim laps in the huge pool or soak in one of the hot tubs. Make cocktail hour every hour at the circular wet bar by the pool. The covered patio has an outdoor lounge with a fireplace and a flat-screen TV - ideal for drinks under the stars. With a long dining table and professional outdoor kitchen, you can practically live outside. Change up your sunbathing routine and hit the tennis court, table tennis, or pool tables for some competitive action. Entering the foyer, you'll know you're staying somewhere special. The grand living room has plush sofas around a marble fireplace and a bar in the corner. The open-plan gourmet kitchen has four islands fit for professional chefs but remains welcoming with warm wood and a sociable breakfast bar. Tucked downstairs, make the most of the wine cellar, fully-equipped gym, and massage and sauna room. Bedrooms in the main house are fit for royalty and there are two additional casitas with en-suite bathrooms, kitchenettes, and living rooms for the utmost privacy. If you can bear to tear yourself away from a home that has it all, head to the impressive and spectacular national parks nearby, where you can explore mountains, forests, Salton Sea, and hike through the famous Joshua trees. This is one grand estate for a grand getaway you'll never forget.

One Size Fits All

The Coachella Valley has become synonymous with Southern Californian cool. And this Mediterranean-style home in Indio, home of the festival, is a great spot for a group to spend a little downtime in the desert at any time of year. There’s plenty to do nearby – spend your days exploring the restaurants, shopping, golf courses and hot springs in Indio itself. Or it’s a half-hour drive to the mid-century modern architecture and pool parties of Palm Springs. 

Perhaps you're just here to sunbathe by the pool and we can get on board with that. Soak in the hot tub, crank up the gas grill and eat out on the terrace – days here were made to be spent outdoors. Hosts can arrange for a private chef if you're really pushing the boat out and want to put the gourmet kitchen through its paces. Or, organise a relaxing massage at the house. The fireplace in the living can keep the place cosy warm on cold desert nights and wood shutters and tufted headboards in the bedrooms set a classy tone.  It might not include a Beyonce appearance but this Coachella home is a hot ticket in its own right.

This enormous mansion is less than a half-hour drive from Coachella Valley, Joshua Tree National Park, Salton Sea and Palm Springs, but to be honest, you could have the stay of a lifetime here without even leaving the property. In-home spa and massage services are available to help you fully unwind. It’s a veritable palace inside, with stone columns and tiles floors keeping things cool. Myriad lounges and seating areas are spread across the open living area with a dedicated movie nook, a grand circular lounge beneath the domed ceiling and a banquet-sized table for the group to dine. You don’t need to go to Vegas to roll the dice, either – within these walls, you’ll find a full casino-style set-up including snooker, foosball and a poker table to challenge your guests to a game or ten. 

Play your cards right, and you’ll spend your stay drifting from decadent interiors to the sunny gardens, which are no less opulent – dive into the magnificent pool, soak in the integrated hot tub, host a barbecue to remember in the huge dining and grilling area, and spend a night watching the sun go down in the outdoor bar. Our favourite spot might have to be the teepee-style outdoor lounge, which adds a touch of boho charm to an otherwise opulent playground. The world is your playground here, and we’d bet good money on you wanting to return again and again.

In the La Quinta Cove neighbourhood, this Palm Springs home is surrounded by mountain trails, sprawling golf courses, and shops and restaurants. The San Jacinta Mountains loom as a rugged backdrop to the villa. A walled backyard offers a bit of privacy so you can swim laps in the pool or soak in the Jacuzzi in peace. Inside it feels boho chic with a hint of mid-century quirk. The living room is set around a fireplace and dotted with houseplants and curated trinkets. A second, less formal, seating area is set up by the big TV, perfect for a movie night. The kitchen has plenty of prep space, thanks to a granite island that doubles as a breakfast bar. If you don’t feel like cooking, it’s a five-minute drive to La Quinta Old Town where a healthy crop of restaurants, bakeries and cafés will see you through the day.

This huge Palm Desert home is beyond luxury. A lawn the size of a football pitch (with goalposts you can set up if you fancy a kickabout) and a resort-style pool area make up the expansive backyard.
