We are really smitten with this stunning beach-front home. Charming coastal interiors, a massive kitchen, twenty-foot high ceilings, a hot tub, ocean views galore – it’s hard to know where to stop. This is an ideal home for a large group of friends or family, looking to spend quality time with one another in a peaceful location. Situated right on the beachfront and surrounded by lush greenery, it would be hard to beat this home’s location. You’ll enjoy direct access to Broad Beach via an electric drawbridge, while the home’s generous outdoor areas include a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, as well as a range of private and shared balconies with unparalleled views. The inside is no less impressive, with huge glass walls and beautiful design – there’s even a private cinema room here. Do bear in mind that the home is not suitable for small children and may be challenging for guests with reduced mobility due to the many stairs.

Although it's only intended for two, the interior is more expansive than many family homes, with a long sofa stretching across one side of the living room and a kitchen with marble counters that will put a smile on the face of any home chef. 

Your host has undoubtedly taken advantage of the amount of wall space by showing off an impressive and varied art collection, which gives the home a sense of playfulness – it almost seems a shame that guests will be spending so much time outside. 

Alfresco seating looks out over a spectacular view of the Pacific Ocean, encompassing Point Dume to the Santa Barbara Channel Islands. If the interiors of this minimalist home appear to have jumped straight out of the pages of a glossy magazine, you’re not far off. This home, designed by Palmer and Kriesel is hidden away in a Palm Springs cul-de-sac and has previously graced the pages of the New York Times. Homage to all things mid-century, with Eames chairs, Nelson lamps and a vintage Malm fireplace in the master bedroom.

We were wowed by the open living area, designed with socialising in mind and with great views of the backyard. Out in the garden, reclining by the shimmering turquoise pool is the perfect way to unwind, but if you need to take your relaxing to the next level, there’s also a hot tub to bubble the night away in. Dine alfresco under the endless desert sky, then end the evening around the flickering fire pit with a glass of something strong as the sun sets behind the mountains.

When you want to venture out, downtown Palm Springs is only a five-minute drive away, and Joshua Tree National Park, roughly an hour away, is a must-see for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Visit The Palm Springs Art Museum, an eight-minute drive away which features complex sculptures, glassworks, and photographs by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol and Diane Arbus.

Go to bed after watching the spectacular sunset over the Pacific and wake up to the sound of the crashing waves at this jaw-dropping beachfront home in the surfside city of San Clemente. 

Contemporary coastal cool is the order of the day, with plenty of light wood, fresh blue furnishings and pristine white walls, all accentuated by the sunlight that pours in 342 days a year through large windows and retractable glass doors that look out over the ocean.

There's plenty of space for all the family, with large open living spaces, a stunning modern kitchen with eye-catching quartz worktops, a dedicated games room with a billiards table, plus a lovely office to make the idea of working while on holiday a little more palatable. 

Sleeping arrangements are taken care of across five spacious bedrooms. A large loft room packed with games and a console allows you to leave the kids to it as you enjoy a glass of something cold out on the covered terrace, or lay out on a lounger on the promontory pointing out to sea.

If the call of the ocean proves too much, you won't have to walk far to access Lost Winds beach below. With consistent surf, volleyball courts, and the opportunity to jog or cycle along the 2.6-mile beach trail, there's plenty on offer here. However, seasoned surfers might want to check out nearby breaks including Trestles, T Street and San Onofre. Lowers (at Trestles beach) is the best of the bunch and the home of high performance surfing. Sometimes it's best just to sit back and marvel at the pros.

After a day of adrenaline-pumping activity, cooking may well be the last thing on your mind. Handily, San Clemente is home to a wide array of restaurants serving everything from American comfort food, farm-to-table fare and creative Mexican classics washed down with a mescal.

Joshua Tree National Park - and its miles of remote hiking routes - is at your fingertips, or if you're ready to re-enter reality, Downtown Palm Springs, with its glitzy shops and trendy restaurants, is a short drive away.
