We are really smitten with this stunning beach-front home. Charming coastal interiors, a massive kitchen, twenty-foot high ceilings, a hot tub, ocean views galore – it’s hard to know where to stop. This is an ideal home for a large group of friends or family, looking to spend quality time with one another in a peaceful location. And for those that want to get out and explore, it’s just a two-minute walk to great grocery stores and restaurants. Oh, did we mention that guests have access to a private beach? Situated right on the beachfront and surrounded by lush greenery, it would be hard to beat this home’s location. You’ll enjoy direct access to Broad Beach via an electric drawbridge, while the home’s generous outdoor areas include a swimming pool and Jacuzzi, as well as a range of private and shared balconies with unparalleled views. The inside is no less impressive, with huge glass walls and beautiful design – there’s even a private cinema room here. Do bear in mind that the home is not suitable for small children and may be challenging for guests with reduced mobility due to the many stairs.

This home, designed by Palmer and Kriesel is hidden away in a Palm Springs cul-de-sac and has previously graced the pages of the New York Times. Homage to all things mid-century, with Eames chairs, Nelson lamps and a vintage Malm fireplace in the master bedroom.

We were wowed by the open living area, designed with socialising in mind and with great views of the backyard. Out in the garden, reclining by the shimmering turquoise pool is the perfect way to unwind, but if you need to take your relaxing to the next level, there’s also a hot tub to bubble the night away in. Dine alfresco under the endless desert sky, then end the evening around the flickering fire pit with a glass of something strong as the sun sets behind the mountains.

When you want to venture out, downtown Palm Springs is only a five-minute drive away, and Joshua Tree National Park, roughly an hour away, is a must-see for hikers and nature enthusiasts. Visit The Palm Springs Art Museum, an eight-minute drive away which features complex sculptures, glassworks, and photographs by renowned artists such as Andy Warhol and Diane Arbus.

Wild Rocks is one of those homes that always appears effortlessly chic. Designed by Oller & Pejic, it’s an architectural gem set against Yucca Valley’s rugged desert terrain. The sliding glass doors blur the lines between the inside and outside, allowing you to enjoy home-cooked meals on the terrace, gaze at the stars, and relax in the hot tub. We also loved the enormous record collection, which features some of the host Joann’s all-time favourite tunes. Found just a short drive from Joshua Tree National Park, there are plenty of exciting adventures waiting for you.

Adorned with colourful tiling, vintage furnishings and fountains, this characterful home is influenced by Spanish haciendas. Differing from some of the more minimal homes in the surrounding area, the stylish pad celebrates colour and creativity, with unique artworks and custom sinks. Families and groups of friends can host dinner parties in the outdoor kitchen, relax indoors with the Sonos sound system or take a short trip to downtown Palm Springs.

After a morning lounging by the saltwater pool, choose from the many hiking trails in your immediate vicinity, hop in the car and you'll be there in around five minutes. On the walls, you’ll find original art by the late Gerald Zeldin, and an interior so impressive it was featured in the NY Times fashion section. You can feel the history of this old mining cabin in the wood-beamed ceiling and clapboard (yet modern)  bathroom. Picture-frame windows let the sunlight stream into this boho-chic interior and let you gaze out over the endless desert before you.

This place is totally off-grid and once you’ve experienced the unique feeling of heating the outdoor hot tub with firewood as you gaze at the stars, there’s no going back.

The hills around Paso are filled with California’s best wineries where Zinfandel and Petit Sirah grapes grow plump on the vine. Lowers (at Trestles beach) is the best of the bunch and the home of high performance surfing. Sometimes it's best just to sit back and marvel at the pros.

After a day of adrenaline-pumping activity, cooking may well be the last thing on your mind. Handily, San Clemente is home to a wide array of restaurants serving everything from American comfort food, farm-to-table fare and creative Mexican classics washed down with a mescal.

But the star of the show has to be the pool and gardens. With 360-degree mountain vistas, soaring palm trees, lush lawns, and hummingbirds busy going about their day, there is no better place to be. Start the day with a few lengths in the pool and soak in the spa, before settling down on one of the many sun decks to catch some rays. 

When it’s time to rustle up a meal, fire up the barbecue in the impressive outdoor dining area, while friends gather around the fire pit. Or let a private chef take over in the gourmet kitchen, complete with a wine fridge and built-in coffee maker to cover off all the essentials.
