This peaceful apartment lies in the midst of Franschhoek, just a ten-minute walk from the village centre. The balcony offers some lovely sunset views and space for alfresco dining. Both bedrooms have en-suites and the twin beds in the second bedroom can be converted into a king bed on request, making it great for couples or friend groups. Children under the age of 12 aren't permitted, but we think families with older children will feel right at home here. You can rent a bike to explore the beautiful area, but we recommend hiring a car for trips down to Cape Town's coast.

Cute as a button, this cottage dates back to the Victorian era with bay windows, wooden shutters and a manicured garden. It’s within the town of Stellenbosch, in the heart of South Africa’s most famous wine-producing region – the Cape Winelands. Vineyards dominate the hills around town while the centre is home to tasting rooms and wine bars galore. Once you’ve stocked up on local chenin blancs and cab sauvs, get a slab of meat from the butcher in town and fire up the brick-built barbecue on the patio for a proper braai. Just make sure to leave enough time to digest before heading to the shared swimming pool for some cooling laps.

Stepping inside, big bay windows flood the living room with natural light. Striking artworks on the pristine white walls and a coffee table piled high with glossy artsy books keep things feeling eclectic for classy evenings with a bottle of wine. The kitchen is big and bright, with plenty of prep space thanks to a kitchen island and breakfast bar and there’s a little collection of cookbooks for inspiration. We love the two double bedrooms with their modern-style four-poster beds and dedicated desks for getting a spot of work done if you need.

Sitting underneath the peaks of the Table Mountain Range, this wine estate dates back to the end of the 19th century and the home's facade is indeed reflective of the Dutch Cape style prevalent at the time. Take a walk around the interior and this sense of heritage continues, thanks to period details ranging from beamed ceilings and brick fireplaces to antique furnishings and oak floors running throughout.

That being said, visitors will not have to sacrifice 21st-century conveniences during a stay here. The glass-walled garden room is a contemporary gem and looks out to gorgeous views of the surrounding rustic landscape. Elsewhere in the fragrant outside space, the swimming pool is a relatively recent addition and the fountain is also a peaceful spot beside which to relax. This being a wine estate, there's a cellar with a good supply of bottles to uncork and this area is as far from dank and dark as you could imagine. Guests also have access to a gym in case they want to work off any of the previous evening's excesses.

When it comes to seeing a little more of this picturesque corner of South Africa, the centre of Constantia takes only seven minutes to reach in the car and rewards those that make the trip with bakeries, cafes and restaurants. Hout Bay Beach is the closest seaside spot at ten minutes' drive, but there are plenty more to be discovered along the coastline. You can get to the centre of Cape Town in around twenty minutes, too.

We absolutely love the views over the ocean from this home's communal pool deck. There's a gym for your daily workout and a sky bar, restaurant, lounge, entertainment hub, barbecue area and boutique here, too. The shared facilities are excellent, we have to say. There are more city views and sea glimpses to enjoy from this apartment's private wraparound balcony. Another feature we love is that both bedrooms open onto the terrace and have en-suites. We haven't mentioned the location yet. Well, you'll be near the popular Sea Point Promenade, while the V&A Waterfront is a five to ten-minute drive away.
