Just outside the Arctic city of Rovaniemi, this cabin sits in a patch of forest, surrounded by trees. It sits atop the Ounasvaara plateau, one of the best spots to witness the Northern Lights while remaining close to the city. Winter sports enthusiasts will appreciate the proximity to the Olympic training centre, for ice hockey matches in winter and forest assault courses in summer. It’s a traditional, Finnish-style cabin with the clapboard painted red on the outside and all pinewood inside. The ground floor is dedicated to a dine-in kitchen with a sofa for unwinding, where a wood-burning stove crackling away in the evening keeps things cosy. Tucked up in the A-frame loft space, you’ll find a second bedroom and lounge area with a TV. A wooden veranda lets you sit outside and listen to the sounds of nature around you.
