Thanks to the central location, a car is not essential here, as you’ll have plenty of shopping and dining options to choose from within walking distance. Public transport options are also excellent if you want to explore further afield. The pad may be compact in size but there’s enough space here for two guests to be comfortable, and with good internet speed, you can also catch up on work during your stay – although you'll have to set-up shop around the dining table since there isn't a desk.

Right on the beachfront at La Canteras, this home has a fabulous spot. Take in the fantastic Atlantic and La Canteras Beach views from this home’s sunny and dazzling whitewashed terrace. You can even spot Mount Teide in Tenerife in the distance. We love this outdoor space, it's ideal for an alfresco breakfast (whizz up a drink in the juicer to accompany some churros). Later, do some sunbathing on the sun loungers. Inside, there are more of those fabulous vistas through the large sliding doors.

In the afternoon, perhaps head to La Canteras  Beach, under a minute stroll away. It’s one of the best urban beaches in the world, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants to sample in the vicinity too. Or, for a bit of culture, Las Palmas Cathedral is a ten-minute ride away. It’s a couple of minutes more to Casa-Museo de Colón, which documents Columbus’ voyages.

It's worth noting the curved staircase might be tricky for little ones, and though it isn't the most soulful home, it's bright, comfortable and fantastic location-wise. Find your way to golf courses, waterparks, and other tourist attractions in minutes when you're not at the beach. The intelligent lighting system that adjusts to the time of day to save energy is a nice touch.

Set in the outskirts of Arucas, this home is a comfortable base for exploring Gran Canaria. You'll need a car here – the nearest shops and restaurants are about 5 kilometres away, while lively Las Palmas is a 14-kilometre drive. But, when you're not adventuring around the island, you'll certainly take advantage of the terrace. With sofas, a summer kitchen and a table big enough to fit the whole group, it nails the concept of outdoor living – even if it could use a small refresh. Inside, some rooms are on the cosier side and it's not the most modern, but we think it'll work well for a family.

Not far from Arucas near the island's north shore, this home's shaded terrace is ideal for enjoying refreshments during days spent around the pool. Don't be fooled by the rustic exterior, this finca has an eye-catching interior and an open-concept design, though no air conditioning for the hot months. With three en-suites, guests staying in bedrooms four and five may have to intrude to use the bathroom. Planning an excursion? Hiring a car is crucial, but bustling Las Palmas is only 14 kilometres away.

Melenara Beach is 350 metres long and 30 metres wide, with black volcanic sand and a wide range of restaurants that allow you to enjoy the rich and varied local gastronomy. Melenara is a quiet and very familiar beach, with parking and spa, with bathing service, adapted for disabled people, lifeguard service throughout the year, children's playground and blue flag.

The Apolo flat is located on the second floor, with two bedrooms, open-plan kitchen, living-dining room and bathroom. It is accessible, exterior, soundproofed, modern and bright, with capacity for three people and has all the comforts you could wish for. 

The spacious rooms are stylishly decorated with careful attention to detail and modern touches, with 1.5 metre beds, ideal for resting after a day of exploring. 

The dining room has a large bay window and offers a three-seater sofa bed, smart TV and side tables. The dining room has a table and three chairs, which can also be used for working, as the chairs are very comfortable. 

The fully equipped kitchen has a combined fridge, ceramic hob, microwave, extractor fan, complete kitchenware and small appliances, as well as a water purifier.

In the bathroom, apart from the WC, washbasin and shower tray, there is a washing machine and dryer together with a storage unit, where the hairdryer is located.

This is one of the more minimalist homes we’ve seen in Tenerife, with white walls and clean, unfussy architectural lines throughout. However, it’s anything but barren – with this view of the harbour visible from almost every window, any other adornment would be like gilding the lily.
