With a fantastic address, just off the Paseo de la Castellana, this apartment has a wealth of attractions nearby. The upmarket districts of Salamanca, Chamberi and Justicia are all close, so you'll have plenty of fine restaurants, chic boutiques and art galleries to enjoy. With one of Madrid's main avenues on your doorstep, the slight downside is you will hear some street noise here, but it's easily fixed with some earplugs if you're a light sleeper. We have to say, we love the views over Plaza Villa de París from this home. The kitchen is well-equipped, so you can cook some homemade meals or let your host arrange a private chef to create some of your favourite tapas dishes.

Historically, the elites have fled central Madrid in hopes of finding a quieter vibe in this neighbourhood, leading to low-key chic architecture, great restaurants, and bars. Mucha's Jungle has an atypical interior design that reminded us of a Soho townhouse. The wooden floor is a piece of art on its own, and there are lots of beautiful design details dotted around. In spite of the fact that it looks a lot bigger, this is a small attic home, which is perfect for all who thrive in pretty, cosy spots.

And while there’s no parking with this home, its central location means public transport is easily accessible, there are restaurants and shops on your doorstop, and key city must-sees such as El Retiro Park are within walking distance. 

Urban Hideaway

Located between the Rios Rosas and Chamberí districts, you’ll have a range of cultural attractions nearby when you stay at this apartment. The Sorolla Museum is situated within a 19th-century house, or head to the Teatro del Canal to see a play or some flamenco – both are within walking distance. After all that exploring, you’ll be glad to know this apartment has a lift up to its entrance. That said, there are steps inside this home (just three up from the living space to the kitchen). There’s a desk in the single bedroom, too, if you need to catch up on work while away, and of course, there’s always the dining table (which seats eight guests).

With a big and luminous living room that transforms into a home cinema, Lovefield is a great stay for those who like to strike a balance between spending their time sightseeing and relaxing at home. The neighbouring streets of Chueca are filled with great bars and restaurants, but they're also well-connected to the city centre. One of the bedrooms in Lovefield doesn't have a window, but otherwise, the design is well-thought-through and coherent.

Plus, the easily accessible public transport is always available to take you further afield around Madrid. While space may be limited here, the apartment presents both a stylish and highly functional set-up where guests can relax or work from home between excursions in the city. Pets are allowed here, although we think it may be a little bit of a squash here for two guests and your furry friend. There's even a communal swimming pool on-site – perfect for a morning swim.

This stylish apartment has that perfect blend – a central location that maintains a sense of peace and privacy at all times. Nestled on the second floor and with bedrooms facing the inner patio of the building complex, you're guarded from the bustle of the streets below. 

If you did want to feel the energy of the city from your apartment, we suggest taking a seat on the balcony. A small, intimate table rests at the end of the balcony – an idyllic spot to sit with a glass of sangria or cup of coffee. 

Once you've felt the fervour of the city from the balcony, get out and explore the beguiling streets and charming plazas. For a cultural afternoon, visit the array of galleries and museums, stopping off for an empanada on the way. 

For the foodies, Madrid is bursting with top-class restaurants. Find menus spanning the globe alongside quintessentially Spanish dishes. After you've enjoyed sumptuous food, take the scenic route back home to burn off the paella and discover the city's hidden gems.

Known as the "Golden Mile",  Ortega y Gasset Street (twenty minutes on foot) has an array of fashion boutiques, art galleries and Michelin-starred restaurants. It's around the same distance to El Retiro Park with its pretty boating lake. Or, a six-minute stroll will take you to Almagro, with its embassies, museums and upscale Spanish, Italian, and Japanese eateries. 

More Japanese influences can be found at this stylish apartment with its bamboo artwork, plants and oriental style prints, giving it a zen vibe. Put some vinyl on the record player and take a seat at the custom-built dining table for dinner – we love the attention to detail that has gone into this place. Then open up the French doors to the small balcony and let the evening air in. There's a communal gym here, too, if you want to keep up with your fitness regime. This home satisfies both body and mind.

When it came to designing this home, the owners were inspired by the spirit of the mountains. The result is a fresh and calm apartment that brings ease to city living. It’s worth noting there is no private parking available here, but you will find everything you could need within walking distance. Head towards Plaza de Olavide for tapas bars and cafes, or adventure further afield to El Retiro Park – less than thirty minutes away.

Gregorio Marañón metro station is right around the corner, although you can easily explore the boutiques, bars and hidden backstreets on foot.

With many of Madrid’s must-see attractions within easy reach, this home is an ideal base from which to explore the Spanish capital. And for those in the city on business, it holds an extra bonus – a dedicated office space, complete with a desk and lounge area. But, if this is a holiday in the true sense of the word, then we think you’ll find this area handy too. After all, where better to indulge in a good book, with a glass of wine in hand? Just mind your head on those sloping ceilings that make the space so cosy.

Found in the heart of Almagro, minutes away from several art galleries and museums where you can immerse yourself in Spanish culture and historical landmarks like the 18th-century Royal Palace of Madrid. Why not also enjoy a wine tasting on your trip – which can be reached within fifteen minutes by car – and take your favourite bottle home to be opened as you cook dinner. Then enjoy a delicious selection of tapas as you sip on local wine, and on warmer nights savour your drink on the terrace to get one last look at the impressive city views.

And when you’re ready to tick off Madrid’s hot spots, the Gregorio Marañón metro station is a short walk away.
